The greatest national anthem

In first place, the national anthem of the USSR:

Second place, Russian national anthem:

Third place, rest of the world.

Hate on russia for the relatively prevalent racism and fascism, but they sure know how to enflame their people through patriotic songs. Say what you want of God save the queen and whatever the USA-one is, no one can hold a candle to Gosudarstvenny Gimn Rossiyskoy Federatsii. There's just something about it that's.... glorious.

Any other great national anthems?

Agree on all counts.

It may not be a national anthem but I'm partial to this poetic anthem

Sheer Beauty

Our country reeks of trees
Our yaks are really large
And they smell like rotting beef carcasses

And we have to clean up after them
And our saddle sores are the best
We proudly wear womens clothing
And searing sand blows up our skirts!

And the buzzards, they soar overhead
And poisonous snakes will devour us whole
And our bones will bleach in the sun

And we will probably go to Hell
And that is our great reward
For being the
Ro-oy-oy-al
Canadian Kilted Yaksmen!

Sweden's must be one of the, if not THE worst. It's so dull. That's all I know. Good picks in the OP too.

The USSR/Russia anthems are great because it really does sound like an entire country singing.

That + Winston Churchill speeches make great background sound during crunch.

I'm always interested in how much people from other countries appreciate the USSR anthem. I've always identified it with Stalinism and such, I was always biased against it. It's so pompous and grandiose, I could picture the Empire from Star Wars having something like that as its anthem. But, being objective, it's really well composed.

Here's the other Russian National Anthem, before they switched back to the Soviet one. I really liked this one, but it was unpopular and had no lyrics (it's a classical piece by Mikhail Glinka)

Here's the Imperial Russian Anthem.

I guess the USSR one is the best one out of the three.

I grew a great affection for the Uruguayan national anthem during the 2010 World Cup. After the first minute, you're like, "Hey this anthem's pretty catchy!" And then it goes on. For like, 4 more minutes, complete with an opera solo. It's a bit over the top, but I guess that's one of the things I like about it.

Russia's is pretty badass.

Italy's because I mostly hear it at the end of F1 races, it's come to to symbolize party time to me.

I'm not crazy about the Star Spangled Banner. I really prefer America the Beautiful.

Russia and Italy share the #1 in my heart. I'm from Spain, btw.

Italy's nice because it is distinctively Italian sounding and no other anthem sounds like it.

Revolutionary and republican overthrowing seem to be the most boisterous.

Monarchy anthems sound the worst IMO, they are so dainty

USSR one is pretty great

in terms of general patriotic songs, I vow to thee my country has no equal in my eyes
Gustav Holst's Jupiter, essentially

I am not saying the USSR's anthem isn't the best, since it clearly is. However, the Red Army Choir is what makes it leagues above the rest. Here is proof of that: Canada's national anthem is generally considered to be in the top tier, but it rises to the elite of the bunch when sung by the RAC. Same with the US':
