The Halo 3 Beta Thread

I really suck at this game, I blame my sweaty hands. Just look at my stats...

# Total Kills: 52
# Total Deaths: 100
# Kill/Death Ratio: 0.52
# Total Assists: 29

Any tips?

Anybody else having problems getting a match? It was working fine, now I can't get into any matchmaking, it just blinks forever.
I was just in a game that took forever to load. Holy shit is this game fun. Much better than Halo 2. :D

There's me after playing about 3-4 hours this morning. I'll be back at 6:00 after work for more action!

And can I also request a playlist for the final game with more gametypes like Shotguns, Swords, Snipers, etc in it? I really enjoyed those gametypes in Halo 2, but they hardly if ever, came up in Matchmaking.

I don't believe it...Halo multiplayer lives up to the hype. :o

Like that other guy, I never had Live with Xbox so this is my first time. I love the things you can pick up and deploy (especially the energy drainer). Playing lag-free is awesome and, short of dedicated servers, I quite prefer this method of matchmaking over anything else I've played on live.

I still need to learn the ins and outs of the different guns. I mostly use the default rifle. Any tips?

Is there a way to more carefully select game types that I'm missing here? I got thrown straight into some sniper rifle game, and all I want to do is play with the rapid fire weapons.

Not sure why there would be any doubt there. The first one was good, the second one tried some new things that didn't always work out, and now the third one allegedly achieves the right balance. Sounds like a perfect sequel in that regard.

set the sensitivity to 4 or 5.. and uhh shoot and throw lots of grenades lol

The only real tip is to keep playing, you pick it up after a while.

You could try playing with friends to adapt to the game more.

Uhm are they going to have a 6 vs 6 playlist anytime soon? because i was looking forward to our GAF brawl.

Me, Rameriz, Sai, Cerrius, IronClad, HG, Ivy, Dopey > * ;)

If i use my HDD on another 360, can I still play the beta?

Yes, I believe you can.

6 v 6 on Valhalla should be a blast. :)

I want to know this too. I'm tired of playing training with five people in my party.

Is the beta strictly matchmaking or can you create private rooms? I'd really like to spend some time checking out weapons and mess around with some friends.

Matchmaking, but you can invite a load of people into your lobby and just do a social match like Team Training, for example.

Yeah, I wish you could just set yourself up alone on a map like in Halo 1 or 2... I'd love a chance to walk around a little, get a feel for the map layouts, and look at the new graphics without worrying someone was going to take my head off with a spartan laser.

Love the AR. In fact, I rarely feel the need to pick anything else up, it's just a great go-to weapon.

Worked for me. Obviously makes no diff. to Crackdown players.

EDIT: Luke, git back to werk or stop preempting me.

Anyone else felt like the carbine was a little better than the BR ?
I was racking up kills with it.

Anyone find a use for the missle pod yet? Felt like a goofy bruteshot to me.

edit: Noob combo - owned (while I did use it quite a bit )

11-12 hours into the (Crackdown part of) the public beta, and I STILL haven't been able to play one. single. game. I just keep getting the "Game over"-screen once I press "Play beta". Some OFFICIAL word of advice would be greeeeatly appreciated, Bungie!!

I have more success with the Carbine at mid-range; the three-shot burst of the BR allows more margin for error over long range since they spread out when you sweep the shot or strafe. At close range, a Carbine fires faster and seems to always win in a fight with the BR.

I've used the missile pod almost exclusively for base defense - owning a pack of guys escorting a bomb with a shower of missiles. I did have luck locking onto a slow-moving warthog and making the occupants very unhappy, but just once. I suspect it will be more useful against Banshees.

reading the thread might help, huh? or maybe visiting the bungie website...that might lead somewhere hmm?

Hey frankie I have a suggestion / question for yah.

You think maybe for retail we could have the option of doing a full hard-drive install of Halo3 ? I'd love to silence that damn dvd-drive. And I basically bought my 360 for this game alone. I'd gladly hand over the gigs for the install.

Go to your memory in the system blade. Highlight the HDD and press Y. Then press X, X, LB, RB, X, X and that'll bring up maintenance. It'll clear all of the title updates.

Use: killing vehicles, guarding plant point of bomb in Vahalla for Assault games, protecting one's self in said base in Vahalla when you're the VIP, etc.

Tried the "Game over"-thread in the Bungie.net forums first of course. Lots of home-made "solutions", none of them very useful.

Wii! All I'll say is, from the moment I started playing I was doing much better in this than in Halo 2 - more like Halo 1 performance. I'm sold right there. Halo 2 frustrated the hell out of me because, while I don't consider myself an expert player, I still felt like I was being killed by people who were just exploiting game mechanics rather than using much actual strategy or any tactics to speak of.

I love that there is a greater variety of weapons and how this seems to make things less predictable, especially with the X button items that can really mix things the hell up. Another point: perhaps it is just me, but for the first time in Halo I feel like my guy is actually a seven foot tall cyborg in armor who should be super human. Between hefting big weapons like the Spartan Laser, being able to haul around huge support weapons like that missile launcher with indications of how heavy they are, the way melee attacks feel, and how jumping feels.

(I've beat down more people with melee attacks here than ever in Halo 2, but they don't feel unbalanced. Just effective; your giant cyborg guy SHOULD be able to pound anyone into the pavement.)

I keep killing noobs who don't yet know what the tripmine is. I deployed a tripmine right in front of this guy. He backs up. Hops on a mongoose, then proceeds to drive DIRECTLY INTO the tripmine trying to run me over.

:lol

That's happened a few times already this morning.

Thanks, already tried it. Didn't work. Seems to be the case for some other people in the "Game over" thread over at bungie.net as well.

Crackdown-user, btw.

Personally, I've scored quite a lot of hits with the pod on people who rush by on the Mongoose - take cover with the pod, wait for a Mongoose group to go by, then fire up their tailpipe. Locks on quick and the rockets get there fast.

I was getting the same problems, did all the solutions listed in the bungie.net forums (Although I couldn't get the the "Press up and then hold A until you see the Bungie Logo and you should get a dialog box saying maintenance has been done" to work at all) and after about five or six tries it just ended up working. Annoying to wait through the Crackdown loadup screens so many times.

Played some games, system froze up when coming out of a match, rebooted and now the problem is back again.

Haven't played since last night so I'm hoping I'll go home in an hour here and it'll just work.

I'm learning to love the trip mine, especially for last-minute deployments. I had a game where the opposing team drove the warthog right into the base and toward the arming zone, so I dropped the mine right on it at the last second. I died in the ensuing explosion, but got a nice double-kill (and bomb reset) out of it.

Also, taking the mancannon on the opposing team's base and dropping the mine right where you land can result in a long-delayed kill. I did that the other night, and got a kill about a minute later from the other side of the map. It took me a second to realize what had happened. :lol

(of course, require the game to sit in the drive ) but essentially loading off the hard-drive

I noticed the carbine is better too. I actually got some kills with it. Quick question. Will Halo3 still have 4 player multi offline? No bots right?

thanks

None of the solutions have worked for me, either. I've tried playing five times and managed to successfully load the game on two occasions. The factors surrounding my success seemed completely arbitrary.

I'm hoping that as time goes on this will become less and less of an issue.

The game rocks, btw.

Whats worse are the noobs on your team that walk right over it after you told all of them... "I'm placing the trip mine on the arming spot... everyone get away...". Then ten seconds later some guy comes down and "boom!" StUnNeR H2K betrayed Newb

Whats worse is if someone dies on foot by it... You can hear the dang think yards away... So look for it!!! :lol

I'm going to try that one. It it possible that a player could shoot the mine while he's in the air and save himself?
