The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Unless they have health regenerate as well. Could make the regeneration rate adjustable through the player traits, so it could be the same as what we have now, or more akin to Halo 1--but without the trouble of sniffin' around for health packs.
I think Halo 2's health system was perfect.

The only complaint I have right now is before I die or if I get sniped, I don't really know until I'm actually dead. Maybe it's just me though. Guess I'm used to the bar being down low and not high, therefore I don't look up often.

i think i saw some pictures of some spartans with different color helmets.......can this be done or you can only change the entire body paint?

Bringing back Halo 1 health system would mean to bring back health packs. Simply: No

What's wrong with health packs?

Sorry, Sai, I didn't catch it. Thread must have been moving too fast. I'd be fine with that - I just miss being able to wear people down.

StUnNeR H2K said:
Yeah so I guess it affects it, but how much? It will suck if that includes custom's too. How many custom games do we run around goofing off in and switch to another party?
God, there are times when we cycle through five or six customs within a few minutes. I'm guessing it'll just be for matchmaking purposes.

I do find VIP to be a little confusing as far as who's on offense and who's on defense.

Everyone is offense and defense... unless you mean "who is gaurding the VIP" and "who is killing the other VIP".

What's wrong? People would be searching for them. There's no place in a next-gen Halo for health packs.

That was from the Internal Beta which seems to have more options than ours does.

Just have one in each base on the objective maps, like Blood Gulch did. That worked very well.

But it has to be their to discourage people to quit games. Now quiting any game can affect your RP.

Wonder if quiting a Custom Game will affect it? Again... we aren't 100% if quiting anything effects it anyways.

I don't want to be discouraged to quit a game if it's 1 vs. 4 with ten minutes remaining (this happened to me last night, two were dropped from the game as soon as it started, and my other teammate promptly quit). It sucks all the fun out of the game. I agree there should be a penalty from leaving the game if the team are balanced, or close to being balanced (3 vs. 4 or 5 vs. 6 is very doable). I'm no programmer, but I think it would be a very simple matter to code it so that you aren't docked RP if you quit because the teams are severely unbalanced.

Anyone else think that the aim-assist for the Laser when tracking human targets needs to be turned off, or at least turned down a lot? The weapon was designed to primarily be an anti-vehicle weapon, right? I feel it's kind of rediculous that your cross-hair get's "yanked" around when using a weapon thats a one hit killer.

I initially protested at the lack of health packs in Halo 2, and to a degree do miss them in that game. But I think they would really disrupt the flow of combat in Halo 3 and are not needed in this game.

Well it's not like RP is something that's hard to get back. If you quit one or two games, it's not going to make that big of a difference. But if you quit constantly, your rank will plummet.

Is there a way to get a certain map in matchmaking?

I've still yet to see Vahalla :(
Valhalla's HUGE, so it's a team game only level. So the question is, do you play a lot of team games?

edit: Just saw your follow up post. *shrugs* I don't know what to tell you. Valhalla shows up 50% of the times I've played Team Games.

A Star shows up right under "Beta Build" if you're VIP.
Yeah, but then you'd have to look for it. It's just easier to spot a huge glowing arm than a small star.

The way it currently is you absolutly should lose rank for dropping games because the other players have to sit there for 10 minutes while it disconnects and restarts the game for everyone else...not a good time

High Ground becomes kinda annoying. Like 95 % of random matches the map was High Ground. And mostly slayer....

Played this snowmap 3 times until now and never the third map....

QFT. I don't even know what the third map is.

High Ground, Snowbound, High Ground High Ground High Ground, Snowbound...

In Halo they weren't typically placed in spots likely to be in the middle of combat, and when they were like on Damnation, somebody would grab it and it would be gone for a minute. Not a big deal. How do you see it disrupting the flow? It's a value judgment you make after a battle - trek back to a health pack or soldier onward.

My dsl connection has been flaky the last two days, disconnecting like every 10 minutes. Its a bitch when trying to play the beta. But whats even more painful is the fact that every time I drop out of a match, I lose RP. I went from 9RP town to 4, now Im back up again, but ive probably gained at least 15 total after losing some.

My opinion of Halo 3, love it, love it, love it. I will be playing Halo 3 when it comes out regardless what other games come. I was an avid Halo 2 player since it came out, so its only natural. Halo 3 is just soo much better than 2 and I love it.

Just checked my profile,

11 games played:

Valhalla
Valhalla
Snowbound
High Ground
Valhalla
Snowbound
Valhalla
High Ground
Valhalla
Valhalla
Snowbound

I hate Valhalla and I love High Ground... sniff :(

WHAT...THE...****?

I've been loathe to share my opinion of the beta because I don't feel like being stoned, but it feels like a minor evolutionary step rather than anything big. It is better than Halo 2, certainly, but I'm just not seeing the overwhelming improvements that many here are. Oh well, Halo has never been my big thing anyway.

And the matchmaking system really needs an overhaul. It doesn't work very well. It tries to match skill level, which the game calculates in some odd way, instead of some games played vs. RP ratio which in my experience thus far is a much better indicator of how good a player is. The graphics suffice but it would be really disappointing if they weren't substantially upgraded in the final version. They're very run of the mill as far as some of the stuff out now.

I've never even noticed the auto aim dragging me anywhere with any weapon, seriously. The laser is fine.

I've played 14 games :

5 Valhalla
4 High Ground
5 Snowbound

# Total Kills: 198
# Total Deaths: 138
# Kill/Death Ratio: 1.4348
# Total Assists: 82

random comment on the health pack discussion, i think health packs introduce an extra element of strategy into the game. taking them out made halo 2 feel faster paced and less serious to me.

You are honest. My take is that there really wasn't much to improve upon from Halo 2 to Halo 3 except for some balancing issues. Now, it's not a chore to have a certain weapon as you feel you have a chance to win a one on one battle with just about any of the weapons. I think the maps are great though and the game is gone back to people who are good at aiming, and not just running up on someone dual-wielding. Headshots are more satisfying and it has become more methodical in nature.

Bias!

But seriously, I've never noticed any aim dragging either. Neither with this, the sniper or any other weapon for that matter. If still does do it, it's extremely subtle.

There's no magnetism that I've noticed. In fact, it makes it easier to aim on here with the exception of the BR. Even then, I get more satisfaction racking up 15-20 kills than I do on Halo 2. If there's more skill involved, I really can't tell, but the satisfaction is there and I find it easier.

I've only noticed dragging on the rocket launcher and the laser. I don't notice it on other weapons, but it definately made me fire a rocket behind a jumping target instead of the ground they were going to land on a couple times.

I've noticed the auto-aim dragging me away from my intended target when another target pops up. I hate it when I'm sooo close to killing someone.

I've gotten so many kills on High Ground with the laser, particularly charging up at th beginning and poking my head out to take out the sniper :lol

Same here. And I've had just as many sniping guys like you in the beginning :D

That's the only way to do it from what I can tell.

If you're charging up right in front of someone, you'll die unless they're incompetent.
