The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Not sure if this has been posted, but Circuit City is doing a preorder bonus - free 4’ Master Chief wall graphic.

Though oddly enough it's only for the regular or collectors edition, not legendary edition (the most expensive one).

I saw a ad for that today, was it really 4 feet?

Anyways, they mention 'pick it up when you pick up Halo 3', I don't like the sound of that. So many times stores seem to 'run out' of offers like this.

I saw that. They should have made it "lifesize". I wouldn't have been able to pass up the opportunity to have a 7 foot tall Spartan on my wall.:lol

Valhalla will be a hell of a lot better when they open up the player limit. 4 vs 4 on that map generally doesn't work all that well.

Valhalla is OK for Team Slayer, but I ****ING HATE Shotty Sniper games on that map.

Shotty Snipers is only good on High Ground. Lots of nooks and crannies to snipe from, but also lots of cover to get behind.

Does anybody feels the Missile Pod is not that much powerful. I get tons of kills with the rail gun but the Missile POD just makes me slow and its missiles do way less damage than the rockets.

I'm LTTP, but does anyone else hate stickied threads? I completely lost this thread the past X hours... =(

VIP is really a lot of fun; was this mode in previous Halos?

Yea, I feel Missile Pod is pretty bad. The splash damage on all explosives seemed toned down...

Missile pod needs range. I've gotten kills across the map on Valhalla with the thing (from the peak of my mancannon ascent), but it sucks up close.

Yeah, I've been underwhelmed the couple times I picked it up. But then again, the lack of Halo 2 autoaim has made me face the harsh reality that I suck at aiming, so maybe it was just me.

Pretty much. Its so satisfying to blast enemies half way across the map with the thing, and I have no idea how I manage to hit with it so often at such ranges. Up close its really strange though, like I can never use the proper amount of lead, but I have gotten some pretty nice lucky kills with it. Its also great for taking out warthogs, its just that it takes just about the whole salvo of rockets to completely destroy one :(

Got a chance to watch the RVB PSA tonight. Honestly quite impressed with how detailed the modelling and lighting on the spartans has become. Seriously, it's akin to the detail level of some of the concept renders of days past . . .

I think it's pretty good too, I think they should change the shaders slightly and make him look shiner again, he looks too plasticy now.

i killed a VIP on Vahalla today with the missle pod after launching from the man cannon, it was quite sexy. and the MP is powerfull upclose, 1 hit kill..it's tough to aim sometimes but it keeps it from being overpowered.

Snowbound is a wonderful map. Anyone who disagrees is a terrorist.

Agreed. Especially the second part:lol

It's actually my favorite map in the beta. I love the rolling terrain. Makes you think about your grenade throws a bit and it can be used very strategically.

Snowbound is pretty cool, I go on neverending laser killing sprees on that.. hehe

What's the easiest way to make a video of your replays, btw?

Oh, and snowbound needs better footstep sounds, like snow squishing under your foot etc.

Had some amazing games tonight. Believe it or not, a Team Slayer double-header was the highlight. Round One was a blowout on High Ground until the last few minutes, when we closed the gap by a good eight kills or so. VIP on Valhalla came up next, and was instantly vetoed by seven of the eight in our group. Naturally, Team Slayer on High Ground came up again - the perfect place for a rematch.

Round Two was simply an incredible game. We had this theory that since momentum was on our side at the end of the last game, we could carry it over to this game. It was kind of a pep talk to carry us through, but it worked - we jumped out to a lead of five or six and held it through to about 35 kills. Right then Vociferous dropped the Bubble Shield down under the gate, and it was a standoff. I headed in and landed a mêlée - which didn't do much good since he pulled out the shotty on my face. I watched as two more dropped in similar fashion. By the time I respawn, it's a tied game.

The rest of the match was absolute carnage, where neither team pulled ahead by more than one kill. Two exchanges stand out. First, finally prying that goddamn Spartan Laser away from Vociferous on the beach - and then lasering him in the face when he come barreling through the gate to try and take it back. Words cannot describe how very delicious that was. :lol

The next was getting the jump on their team moving as a pack - they'd just passed under the gate toward the beach, one carrying the turret. He fell behind due to his slower speed, and one grenade toss and a mêlée later, the turret is mine. The rest of their group ran into my team under the cave and tried to double back - but I had the turret now. Mwahahahaahaha! *kills Voc*

The game ended when we were tied at 49 each. Both groups met just outside the gate, and grenades were raining from the skies like unusually explosive hail. We landed the kill - right before our entire team blew up. Really, it could have gone either way.

I would not describe myself as a fan of Team Slayer - but I'm coming around. With a well-matched social party going, it was un-****ing-believable.

My stats are slowly crawling upwards, but more importantly I'm having a good time every game now.

Me think the same. Valhalla is big for Shotty Sniper. In one game, 2 playes left and with 4 players I was searching for target for almost 2 minutes.

Sounds like some epic shit mate, but it wouldn't have been nearly as great without being a rematch or what not. Social groups where you know people make this game unbelievable.

Good improvements on those stats, just gotta keep bringing them up.

BTW, I was on page three before I thought about looking up for the thread. Cool that it hit 13,000 though.

Man I wish I had the energy to get online and run with you guys tonight. Spiff is awesome to play with. Sounds like you guys had nice night. :)

Glad it helped. I saved the film of that match; gonna rewatch it solely for that amazing 49-49 battle in front of the gate. Good times.
Oh dang it - I forgot to save it before I shut down. Could you upload it and sent the recommend?

Wouldn't mind playing a game or two with you Ghaleon. My matches have been shitty lately b/c nobody talks or does anything remotely or respectively that can be called "teamwork". It's disheartening to have a team like that which just runs around while the other is grouped together. Needless to say I've been on a losing streak and it's not the losing that is crappy, it's that nobody communicates or they are just saying random b.s. It would be nice to be on a team that actually would like to do well. I did have a few good matches the other day with ianswoody and some people he knew. We won more than we lost and even though we lost a few of those games, it was still fun. Oh well, off to try again.

Aw shucks, man. You're doing pretty damn good out there, too.
Let's just pretend the last TS match we played together on Valhalla never happened
.

And yes, the games were awesome.

Done!

Too bad it'll be from my perspective. Don't remember how good my view of the final battle was.

FVCK, I missed pretty much the whole damn thing! Looked up, and just like that it was all over. :lol Oh well, there's some good stuff in there. I think.

Missile Pod is perfect for locking onto vehicles (Warthogs). Direct hits just annihilate them.

That radio on High Grounds is a giant ****ing box of Easter Eggs.

Egg #1: Morse code messages

Egg #2: Freaky image of Cortana flashes on it

Egg #3: It plays a clip of "Under Cover of Night" from the Halo 1 soundtrack. Goddamn that track still gives me chills.

That last one is new.

not new to me. i posted about it a few hundred posts back too.

lol awesome, Op found that out bout a week ago tho, he was like hey this radio is playing Halo music :lol I went in there but never stayed long enough for it to kick in, that's awesome though.

haha, you remembered! it was quite cool running in there and hearing that on the radio

Hey JB... why didn't you, lj, rod, and spooka not join up with our party? Were you guys not in the mood for 4vs4 team training?

Also spud, arm, and vagrant, awesome games! Warthog was killer. :D

team skirmish games... not so killer :(

I'm not much of a fan of the missile pod.

Seems like it's already easy enough to take out vehicles between the sniper and spartan laser (and most of the things on valhalla are mongoose's which are pretty easy to take out with just a BR since there's no turret gunner on it). The missile pod gives off a warning of a few seconds to the people in the vehicle too meaning they can just drive over to cover or something. And it leaves you vulnerable to snipers from the slow movement speed.

Maybe I'm just not very good with it, but it doesn't really seem needed. I guess it would be nice against banshees though.

Eh?

We had a party of 4 of our own going. You didn't send me a message (or an invite of any kind) so I'm not sure what you're referring to, exactly.
