The Halo 3 Beta Thread

If the armor changes have any effect outside of aesthetics, I'm going to poop Stinkles' pants.

That would be unbelieveably horrible.

Even if it'd suck, I wouldn't really mind it cause we'll have the option to turn it off. Choice is good

If Stinkles isn't clearing this up we must assume it's true.

it's quite possible there is far more than just 3 different armor types.
It would be very unlike Bungie to reveal a new feature and tell us everything about it at the same time.

I'm pretty confident Stinkles' pants are safe.

And what would you be doing in his pants to beging with? Don't answer that.

I would fly out west, perform a little B&E, procure a pair of Mr. O'Connor's slacks, proceed to poop in them and then place them back in his dresser as if nothing ever happened.

If I want my armor to change the way my FPS plays, I'll play Rainbow Six. Frankie cannot allow this. At least, now he knows the consequences.

but then the playing field would be totally uneven. Imagine getting in a heated firefight, and just before going in for the mellee finisher, you have to stop and think twice because the enemy is wearing CQB armor?! If that doesn't totally FVCK up the halo formula then i don't know what does. That's imo, worse than anything bungie ever did with dual wielding in Halo 2.

And who knows what EVA armor would do..."oh let me drive, i have the driving armor!" Halo is about providing a balanced game where people have to make important split second decisions in the heat of battle...it is NOT about people making important decisions before the battle that determines how they partake in that battle. bleh STINKLES!!!!

Do you really think Bungie would do that?

I mean, you could turn that feature off and just have old-school no advantages.
No harm done for the purists. If it's true, I'd have to see it actually played out before getting outraged at stinkles.

actually, no...and i did doubt bungie on the equipment which turned out just fine (awesome). But i can not see anything good out of making the game semi class based as the names somewhat suggest.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't introduce a class system, those names are probably just there just to make them seem professional and easier to reference to instead of having "shiney helmet skin" kind of names.

You honestly think Bungie would leave such a huge gameplay change out of Matchmaking?
no, don't you see...it could be just like Gears, where the matchmaking is totally FUBARed. Leaving us only to play pure custom games. God save us:lol

Im not in the beta, but from what I have heard from people in it, the game is just not that exciting. People are saying that its very solid and feels done for a Q4 release, but, people prefering to play shadowrun or forza 2?:/

Right now I just have a hard time seeing Halo 3 selling 5 million copies in less than 3 weeks, like halo 2 did.

I think it might end up like with MGS2. Mega hyped game that sold like crazy. even though MGS3 was better, it suffered because of peoples dissapoint with it.

I know halo 2 had great online play but if only 10% of all the halo 2 buyers went online, alot of people have been feeling "f**k this game".

I dont know..

This armor fiasco seems to be kind of interesting actually. If it's true, then it's following the style of the books, where the SPI armor had less bulk but better camoflauge then the Mjoliner (sp).

It's intresting, but I think it has a potential to break the multiplayer. I have faith in Bungie though.

It's not true. Aesthetics. Chill out.

Important words. :p

The Beta has been out for nearly three weeks. Shadowrun and Forza 2 are brand new games. It's natural that they will get some playtime. You are really misreading (or not reading) community reaction if you think people are disappointed by the Beta.

Right now I just have a hard time seeing Halo 3 selling 5 million copies in less than 3 weeks, like halo 2 did.
This is a different issue. The 360 userbase will be about 2/3 what the Xbox userbase was when Halo 2 was released. It will be harder to have as large an upfront sales total, but it will have much longer legs given the relative point in the lifecycle of each console they're releasing at. (I actually think it will debut with a faster sell-through than Halo 2, but that's me.)

I think it might end up like with MGS2. Mega hyped game that sold like crazy. even though MGS3 was better, it suffered because of peoples dissapoint with it.
I love predictions like this. :D

Um, what?

got my shirt today :D

I actually got mine Friday as well. I meant to post about it, because I actually had to wear it out the next day (no access to clean clothes), and I had 3 people comment on it at the four places I went to. The dude at Starbucks was all conspiratoral about it as well. He's like "Is that real?" in this really low tone as he leans towards me. Then he asked me if I was allowed to talk about it and I said no :lol

Shoho said:
it might be wrong, but wasent it something like that? that most halo 2 users where not online?

...Obviously.

Anyway, I think we've gathered enough evidence to say that whenever Stinkles doesn't respond to a claim about Halo 3, it is true.

Stinkles, we play as the Arbiter in Halo 3, no?

Edit: I did not write this post.

I like my beta shirt. It's with the blue spartan, and it's not made of the thin material that the other shirts are made of. Great shirt.

bungie1140_500.jpg

This ones better than the one at the NYC event that just says "Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta." It says "tester". It makes sense.

To be even more specific:

Brown: http://www.bungiestore.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=7&idproduct=698

The shirt quality is indeed high - it's a nice thick shirt. The silkscreen printing is just okay though - the printing actually wore off at the fold marks in my shirt. I hope it doesn't flake off after a few washings like many of my other scree-printed shirts do.

hit a nerve?

Im not going on the "it looks like halo 2 in high def" but damn.

Peoples responses seem pretty freakin underwhelming.

Its the same with GTA. maybe the psp GTAs just made people uninterested.

I wondered if it was that, or if that was just the style. It is on the folds though, so that makes sense.

I gave you the benefit of a serious response last time.

Now I don't feel the need to do so since your intentions are now clear.

But seriously.

What's up with the spacing in your posts?

It's 3 maps. If you had the choice to play something that just came out for a while, or the same 3 maps, which would you choose?

Right now I just have a hard time seeing Halo 3 selling 5 million copies in less than 3 weeks, like halo 2 did.
You haven't played it so how do you even know? There are tons of Halo fans that aren't playing the beta that will pick it up on day one because its Halo.

I dont know..
This we know.

Worst troll ever. Try skimming through the 16,000+ posts of people talking about the game... you'll notice that the reactions are mostly overwhelmingly positive.

Yeah, only 119,000 people have jumped on the beta in the last twenty-four hours. Sunday night to Monday night. Total failure.

Plus, there's just a metric shitton of jaggies, though I'm not sure about the conversion methods here and how that compares to a shitton of jaggies in say, Washington state.

And Gears of War.

And Armor types.

And I posted the scans of the Sun in the other thread, it's cool to post here if you want, guys, but I'm too lazy to drum them up.

And I might be on later, but probably not beacause I'm super underwhelmed. And GTA. And MGS. Snake rules, right guys?

There's not worn spots per se, just creases where the shirt shows through the printing at the folds. You can't even see them from a few feet away. I'm just hoping it's not an idication that washing will wear it off. (No signs after the first time through.) Not a big deal, really.

And yeah, the shirt rocks. Hilarious and awesome design all at once.
