Gotcha. I wonder what the reasoning behind all of these name changes is.

I'm not sure, it is a bit peculiar. I knew there would be new medals, but I don't see the need to rename certain old ones. Maybe they were looking for a way to tie some new medals in with the old? That's the only explaination I can think of.

If the removable turret is as powerful as they were in Halo 2, that is nothing but unbalanced garbage. Everything else I've seen so far looks pretty nice though. Not liking the third person view either, but I'll wait till I try it before I pass judgement.

PLEASE a third F***ING warthog blower uper PLEASE! i dont need anything more than a rocket launcher. But to be honest i dont even need a rocket it just makes it easyer, just give me a sniper and you wont get near my base!

So speaking of graphics, what upgrades can one realistically expect between now and release?

It seems like there are no bugs/framerate problems, so that's great.

Well it would be bugs and such. I'm sure they'll find some.

Probably gameplay tweaks. Tweaking weapons.

Tweaking the levels too, perhaps.

The turret is powerful but it slows you a lot, movement and aiming wise.
It never felt like it was the ultimate weapon while playing, I would even say it's more of a burden if you ask me ;)

the turret looks like a defensive weapon. if you're playing 1 flag CTF, it looks like you'd want to take it into the base and protect the flag since your monuverability is so limited when you're holding it

Ok I downloaded the 720p video from xboxyde and streamed it to my tv(Samsung DLP 720P) and I will have to disagree with the majority. It looks killer fun as expected but the graphics are not impressing me. I am gonna have to find a copy of Halo 2 again because they look pretty dang similar. Now I haven't played H2 in 2 years so that may be the problem, I hope single player looks at least 2-3x as good.
Not even close. Halo 3 beta vs Halo 2 upscaled single player.

Fun playing with Ghaleon. I give him A+++++ would play again recommendation to all Gaffers. :D

I was able to score about half of what he was in slayer. :lol

I'm coming to get him... on Wednesday.

There's an interesting write-up a user posted on the MLG Forums. It includes some nice tidbits and things that I haven't seen posted elsewhere. Here it is in it's entirety.

So I was lucky enough to get to play the Halo 3 beta tonight. My friend runs the Norwegian halo-communtiy and got some early "Friends and Family" Halo 3 beta keys today. So I hope this will clarify a couple of issues and questions people have with the Beta. If someone else has posted something like this already, I apologize.

In the beta, there is no custom games or customization of any kind. It's only matchmaking. However, there is a new filter that you can choose to only join games with good connection or servers made by people who speak the same language as you. This is good news for Americans, and less so for people in areas with less active players.

There's only three maps, and they are all pretty big, unfortunately.

Now, onto the game itself. None of the glitches that works in the other games works.
What this means is:
No reloading/X cancelling like in H2. (No BXR, RRX, BXB)
No YY fast reload like in H2. (No YY, BYYB, RYYR etc.)
No grenade canelling like in H1. (No BLB) (also no grenade reloading like in H2)

Melees seem improved, despite the reappearance of the imfamous lunge, they tend to hit more often. Melees allways kill in 2 hits, but because of the lack of button-combinations to cancel the animations, the melee should only be used as a finisher. My friend noticed that the laser-anti-vechicle weapon (which I can't remember the name of right now) had a one-hit-kill jumping melee (like h2 rocket pre-patch), but this may or not be true as we never got to test it due to lack of custom game function in the beta.

The BR is essentially the same, 4 shot kill etc, but it seems drastically improved over long range on decent hosts because of the P2P nature of H3's netcode.

Carbine also seemed the same, but it seemed to kill even faster at times. Carbine also worked really well long-range.

Sniper Rifle has the h2 scopes if I remember correctly, but has a noticeably slower fire-rate which causes your timing to be off for the first couple of games using it. Sweep sniping still works, however it is harder to get headshots than in Halo 2.

Rocket Launcher has no lock-on function against vechicles, and has a small splash radius, but it shoots out really fast.

Brute shot is overall better because you have 6 shots in a clip.

Plasma pistol has almost no "homing" at all. It seemed almost more nerfed than the h1 version. Hence, it is only usefull up close or as a plasma rifle substitute by rapid-firing. Needless to say, the PP-BR combo no longer works.

Plasma rifle was a pleasant suprise, it shoots more accurate and really fast, so PP-BR actually works really well.

AR was better than the SMG, but the small clip resulted in it not being much better as a spawn weapon. It hits better at slightly longer ranges than the SMG, but you can rarely finish a kill with it unless the opponent is right in your face.

SMG certainly sounded better, but seemed essentially the same as in h2, however I've allways hated it, so I spent very little time testing it.

The needler shoots a lot faster, but is still nothing but a humiliation weapon.

There are two types of "heavy weapons" which you can't switch (Y) unless you drop it. One is a heavy machine-gun like a portable turret, the other is an automatic rocket launcher that locks on to vechicles which seemed pretty over-powered. Upon picking up either of these two the camera switches to third person and your movement speed decreases by what seemed like 50%.

The shotgun seemed to actually kill more effectively than in h2, and can be used to finish off people without shield on longer distances like in h1, but it was not perfect by any means.

The Brute pistols or whatever they were called were absolutely terrible unless the opponent was in melee range. Keep away from these.

The laser-weapon mentioned earlier is beastly. Taking out vechicles is easier than ever, and if you got something to take cover behind while charging it, it is also useful against opponents on foot. Note that this is not Plasma Pistol-ish charging. The charge is released immediately when it is finished charging, so using it against opponents on foot demands some strategy and positioning.

The Sword and Pistol was not present on any of these maps, so I can't review them, and most likely neither will anyone else by just playing the public beta. The Beam Rifle was in the game, but I could never figuer out where it spawned, but upon being shot at with it by the other team, it seemed the same as in H2.

The grenades are pretty weird, they are all tossed at a different velocity and angle. The plasma grenades are thrown really fast in a Halo 1-like fassion. The frag grenades are more or less thrown like in Halo 2, but the fuse is slightly longer and they no longer seem to blow up eachother. The spiker seemed to be tossed even more girly than the grenades in h2, but are pretty useful when you get more experienced with them. If you throw one on the ground outside, the opponent has to run stragiht over it to get hit, but in a room, it will ricochè(sp?) all the spikes all over the room and is pretty effective.

The shield grenade works pretty decently when you are in trouble, and contrary to popular belief does not roll when dropped in a slope, it stays in the same place.

There is an opposite of the shield grenade which removes all shields of anyone in it's radius, which could give a you significant advantage against campers.

Also, you can no longer toss the flag, when dropped, it falls straight to the ground. You may be able to toss it straight up to someone standing at a higher level, but you can not throw it horizontally.

The hud seemed ok, but is really weird when being shot at. It's almost impossible in the current version to tell from what direction you are being shot at. Also, the carbine's fast firerate really messed up the view. At one point I had a carbine-duel with an opponent standing right in front of me, but when he hit me in the face the entire screen flashed so much I could not even see my opponent.

The magnetism seems a lot weaker, but the auto-aim felt about the same (sweep-sniping etc.). Overall the BR battles seemed a lot more challenging than in Halo 2.

This is all I have time to write right now, but feel free to ask any questions and I will try my best to answer them.

I apologize in advance for any spelling errors, the spell check-function bugged out on me.

Ah thats good. I just hope it doesnt have the range it had in Halo 2, that would be a bit much. As long as a BR has enough time to 4 shot the guy with the turret at medium range before hes torn to shreds, I'm happy.

This may have been answered but is off-host grenade jumping back in? And also how is the lag online, same as Halo 2 or noticably better? Long range BR in Halo 2 was pretty much impossible off host, so I hope that is fixed. Guess all I really care about is the net code.

/prays its not as terrible as Gears'

Edit: The guy from MLG seemed to clear my net code concerns, awesome. But WTF? No more flag tossing?! WHY?!

The turret is powerful, but it makes you so slow and immobile...I found that a group of two charging me with the turret was effective. It's too difficult to maneuver and turn around if someone gets behind you.

Nicely balanced.

I think the biggest new weapon are those laser things.

I wasn't hyped for H3 up until now. Mainly because I've purposely avoided most of the media surrounding it. To be honest, I even started to suspect it wouldn't deliver. But damn... I've spent my entire evening on the beta and I feel so silly for ever doubting Bungie.

This game is going to be so freakin' amazing when it launches.

WOO HOO. All that crap really ruined the H2 experience. I'm really happy that they fixed it. Thanks for the heads up.

So yea, anyone who is able to play now, please add DaAnswer3 to your friends list, I've got 14% left and you all can use me as your punching bag before I get my senses about me :lol

[BUNCH OF INFO]

Holy **** that's thorough o.o; I hope I see that kinda write-up if Nintendo ever does a Brawl beta (lol yeah right).

I'm really pissed off.

Yes I'll get to play the beta on Wednesday with Crackdown, but the bitch in me is pissed off/jealous that others get to play before us that paid $60 for the game.

I'm sure it will go away soon but for now I'm being a little bitch.

I've played over 10,000 games of Halo 2, got in the beta through Halo3.com AND bought Crackdown just to make SURE I get in.

No F&F invite for me :-(

I feel your pain.

This game is REALLY ****ing good, wow!

Auto assist seems to be almost completely gone, BR/Carbine feel alot harder to use for me so far...

Can somebody check the control options for me? Make sure that Legacy's still around and see if you can mess with the buttons to get X to reload?

The HD vids at Gamespot are quite good. Game looks much better in those vids than the non-HD ones posted by IGN earlier.

But more than anything else, who cares about stellar graphics, Its Halo 3 bitches.
