The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Just saw the both Developer Walkthroughs an what can I say...the best looking console fps so far. Only Crysis will pwn it.

Well guys, so much for the Beta for me.
Just got home from taking my mother out for Mothers day, dropped her off at her place, get back to my apartment to find my patio door smashed in.
Luckily, I had my laptop in the truck of my car and my Xbox 360 is out for repairs due back tomorrow, so they didn't get either of those. So far, it looks like whoever broke in took my GPS, my Dreamcast (nooooo), my Wavebirds and a bunch of my games for the 360 and Dreamcast. Crackdown was included in the games they took.
It looks like they were attempting to take my TV, as it's pulled towards the front of the entertainment center and unplugged.
They didn't get some of my games though as well as my controllers, as they are usually stored in a drawer that's built into my coffee table, so I guess they weren't smart enough to look inside there or it doesn't look like a drawer.
I might re-buy Crackdown, but there's probably other things I'll have to rebuy first before I can do that, plus who knows if I'll be held responsible for the broken patio door window.

the singleplayer of crysis may be a well scripted game which impresses all, but i doubt the multiplayer has anything on Halo 3.
so crysis may pwn Halo in the visuals department in certain respects, but i think Halo 3 will be the overall better game. not to mention i'll be playing Halo 3 on my 300/400 dollar console
and speedrazr, damn i'm sorry man. if i had an extra copy i'd send you one. proof and maybe even bungie will be generous... haha.

It's also important to see it in motion. There's a huge number of effects going on at once. Just in the explosion department you've got different explosions for vehicles, three grenades, rocket launcher, fusion cores and needlers going on at any moment, plus the large number of different weapon effects. Stuff like the water needs to be seen in motion. There's so much going on at any given moment that screens don't to it justice. And those screens look good.Speevy said:

Crysis has the whole power suit gameplay mechanic, it has dynamic AI, completely destructible environments and customizable weapons. But the most important thing is that it looks like it will be fun to play, it combines the best elements of Halo and Crackdown in one game, not to mention that the graphics rule every single game that's going to be released this year.
How can you say that Halo 3 will certainly be the better game?

I really don't mind them not being the best of the best, because the game has 4-player split screen. How many next-gen titles do we see with this feature now? 4-p has always been one of the key reasons I love the Halo franchise, and I'm glad they didn't scrap it in favor of more polygons.

I'm sure that Halo 3 will be awesome... well, scratch that, I'm sure that it's awesome right now and will be brain meltingly awesome when I start up my retail copy of the game, but Crysis looks as if it might finally reinvent the wheel on the PC.
The Xbox had it's revolution already, today almost every shooter has a grenade button or regenerating health, even games that might be better off without it.
On the PC side, first person shooters still play like Doom or Half-Life. They are still mostly scripted, don't dare to take risks and most of them have poor production values because the publishers fear that they might not make their money back. As the Halo PC ports proved, you can't just take a console game port it to the PC and expect it to have the same effect as on a console. It wouldn't work with any good console game, would you want play Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime on a PC?
It would feel out of place.
Halo's strenghts can't be ported to the PC, so the PC needs it's own revolution to make the genre worthwhile again. Crysis seems to be just that.

But seriously, they are way too different to say which one would have the better MP, I imagine those who like the BF series will like Crysis more, while those into a more "intimate" MP experience will like Halo.

This is a known bug with the Saved Films feature in the beta. At times when you try to save the films, you will hear a noise I can only describe as a "wooshing" and then it will hang as though it were saving, but when you go and look for the film it's not there.
The solution in the beta is to just reboot your console and you should be good go to.

Yeah I have become such a bitch the past couple of days.
I finished watching the Game Head episode - it was just okay. Too much generic rock in the background and quick cuts. Some of the interviews started to get interesting, then they cut away. I love watching good, meaty interviews but those are increasingly rare on TV these days.
