For the record, you don't need to hack ****ing shit. It works just like sharing does on PSN.

There is a way to completely void your TOS with Live and commit fraud on multiple levels to get into the Beta two days early. Sound tempting?

I'm amazed that some of you guys are going for this.

Can they actually prove that this is done in such a way that it constitutes a violation of the TOS? It'd seem like it'd be almost as difficult to determine as malicious standbying of the old days.

But yeah, it's pretty crazy that people are going for it. It's almost Wednesday, people.

Bungie probably has a list of the people who got authorized Beta codes. The only way I could see people NOT getting banned is if the Beta can be played by multiple users on one 360.

Just ran into a group of them in the beta, screaming, freaking out, generally being obnoxious. Can confirm that the mute option is super easy, even in game.

Ugh, that's one of the reasons I thought it would be cool to be in the F&F. Any way, I'm not going to bother with this shit, I've got a big essay to write and some studying to do :(

From the clues in this thread I'm assuming that some one with the beta signs into live with some one's account who does not have the beta. Either way, it does sound like a terrible idea.

They won't ban you. People have done tons of stuff to break TOS rules on live ever since the 360 came out. They never ever ban people. Hell they still don't even ban people using modded consoles to play pirated full games.

Filing Complaints on XBL is so pointless for this reason, nothing is enforced

They're going to see, probably, beta codes activated with 360 serials. Otherwise you'd have people sharing the crackdown codes at launch.

How come you guys keep saying "2 days early" Isn't it 3?

Well there's not really a Crackdown code. Microsoft was smart with that one. The Beta launches through the disc so you have to have that to play it.

you can only play the Halo 3 beta with the Crackdown disk running if you got in via Crackdown.

edit: beaten.

On the B.net forums they specifically said that some people may have gotten multiple codes and that if they did, they could give it to anyone the felt deserved it. Or if the person who received the code couldn't use it, that they could then pass it on. Not to mention all of the after-the-fact code giving that happened here.

so bungie is nice enough to let people into the beta early

jerkoff douchebags (otherwise known as the typical xbox live gamer) exploit such kindness and allow others to use their accounts to download the beta and play early

nice

i hope microsoft bans your 360s.

I can see people being annoyed by this early halo 3 beta thing.. but it's 3 days people, not worth getting banned over.

I will shoot down all Bungie/MS ninjas with my golden arrows.

There is no hacking involved. All it is is people who got a code for the beta are sharing their XBL account so they can then download the beta.

:lol for flat out saying it.

went without say for about 5 pages.

Well, jokes on them if they get banned for going in early and matchmaking really does take 8-10 minutes at this point. They won't get maximum returns out of their investment. ;)

True...I forgot about that.

Then, the only way they could fish people out with this is if the work-around people are using here still records the Beta code with the download and they saw that code being used on another 360? I don't know. It's like I'm trying to talk myself into doing this, and I'm going to stop now. :lol

Would Bungie really go through and ban people for getting into a public Beta early?

Classy folks, the lot.

They won't ban or punish anyone for this. Crackdown retail version was avail to pirates for almost a full week before it was on shelves. People kept crying that they're going to ban those people since they know they're pirates. Well guess what, they didn't do that. And if they're not going to ban people who obviously pirating full games they're not going to bother over a crappy beta when they know the people who are this interested in playing the beta will almost 100% buy the full version from them.

Free for Friends and Family. Not for you. But of course playing nice isn't your style is it?

And L.O.L. at people in here who have been playing for days now mad at people who are finally getting to play. They felt as if they were in some exclusive club that is now not so exclusive.

Heh, yeah, it's not like anyone from Bungie is reading this thread.

Oh shi--

Can you guys realistically combat this, though? I mean... this method will be on Digg soon enough, I'm guessing. From there, it's just going to spread like wildfire.

I would imagine that they can see that code AF235SF (for example) is being used by say SailorDaravon. Then the next day they see that user GhaleonEB is on using the same code, maybe even at the same time as me. I have to imagine they have some flags in place like that. If not it would've defeated the purpose of bundling the beta w/Crackdown (which you KNOW got it sales) and they would've just made it free and open to everyone.

Edit: DD-11 beat me to it, although I don't know if they would actually ban both accounts, only any after the first.

Great... now this guy is back in the thread. I can't believe you haven't been banned yet.

OKAY! ENOUGH!

For the love of ****ing God, this is a video game.

Some of us have will power to hold off two days, some of us don't. It's not easy to have looked forward to this for six months only to have to wait five days and see and hear people playing and enjoying it. That's why some people are willing to take these risks.

I'm not making judgments, but I see the majority of the people threatening bans and hoping people get banned are the ones who already have the Beta. Like a poster said above, are you feeling threatened by the fact others are getting in?

Some of you even begged and begged Frankie and company to give you a Beta invite. Dispicable stuff. I haven't begged for anything in my life and never will. So there's no reason these beggers should be badmouthing guys using the work around.

And to those people who are getting in this way. You could get banned, you might not. There's no reason to start a bitch fest or an e-penis stand off here over a video game beta. Both sides are acting like immature idiots.

I admittedly thought about doing it but I've changed my mind. I can wait. Some people can't. Relax, everybody!

With the Crackdown Beta, you need the CD to be able to launch it. So it wont work since you cant lend someone the CD and still keep it.

This is different. Its just sharing XBL Accounts. Nothing you can do either since being able to use your XBL account on someone elses Xbox is something Microsoft plugs as a pro.

Microsoft lifts shroud off Halo 3 to mixed reviews

By Scott Hillis and Justin Grant

SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O.: Quote, Profile, Research gave a sneak peek at its "Halo 3" game on Friday, saying the next chapter of the fast-paced shooter trilogy will help it fend off competition from Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research and Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research.

Gamers at the invitation-only preview gave mixed reviews.

"The graphics can use some work ... They're not much different than the previous Halo," said Nicholas Puleo, editor of gaming news Web site Evilavatar.com.

"They've got five, six months until release, so they'll add some polish ... When I compare it to other things in the platform, it's not standout."

Microsoft staged previews in New York and San Francisco on Friday in advance of the public test, or "beta," of the game, which goes live next Wednesday.

A public beta is unusual for a console game, and the one for the flagship title for Microsoft's Xbox 360 is being closely watched by gamers eager to know how it looks and plays, and whether it will live up to the considerable buzz.

"I definitely believe that 'Halo 3' is going to be bigger than 'Halo 2'. Retailers know what 'Halo 2' did and they are not going to want to be caught out of stock," Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Game Studios, told Reuters.

The first "Halo" helped the original Xbox gain a foothold in the highly competitive video-game market, while the second installment became the top-selling game ever for the system, with sales of $125 million -- roughly 2.5 million copies -- in its first 24 hours of availability.

Microsoft plans to launch "Halo 3" in the autumn, Kim said. The first two games were released in November of 2001 and 2004 ahead of the year-end holiday season.

"I believe this is going to be one of the three biggest consumer entertainment events of the year, along with 'Spider-Man 3' and the new 'Harry Potter' book," Kim said.

"This is going to be a huge competitive advantage for us. Sony has nothing like it."

The game once again puts players in control of "Master Chief," a futuristic soldier trying to save humanity from an alien coalition known as the Covenant.

To make things more realistic, game maker Bungie Studios made the movements in "Halo 3" more closely follow the laws of real-world physics.

Dead bodies float. Grenades tossed in snow stay in place, while those thrown on harder surfaces skip and roll. Bullets ricochet off walls. And gamers' characters straying too close to grenades will be maimed by their shrapnel effect.

The games have also driven adoption of the Xbox Live online gaming service, which offers some basic features for free but charges users about $50 a year for being able to play against other gamers.

In addition to being one of the year's hottest-selling games, the publicity surrounding "Halo 3" should also spur some consumers to run out and buy an Xbox 360, said Craig Davison, Microsoft's director of marketing.

"There's a significant number of people just waiting for that one game," he said, "and this is the game."

You're comparing that to getting your friend's e-mail & password (and downloading something which you weren't invited for; available two days later)?

Sheesh. Feed the dog. Do some homework. Read a book. It's not far away.
