The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Damn you and your head start.

I'll be gunning for ya from the outset, though. I'd like to see how high someone ends up getting by the 6th.

I wonder what the highest rank is. Probably Master Chief.

How do you get RP exactly? In the first day I had like 5 all day, people who were much worse than me had alot more than me, I didn't really get it :lol

I'm not sure. I think if you win a game you gain 1 point and i know that if you quit you lose 2 RPs. It's best just to stay in and take an ass whooping.

How does it work with FFA games?

We measure both skill level and experience (in the Beta, this experience is signified by "RP" standing for Rating Points) in our Matchmaking system. Some players are destined to become pros, while others will prefer to haunt the middle ranks and enjoy the game just for fun. But we’ll reward every player with experience Rating Points (RP) - earned for time served in Halo 3 Matchmaking. Progress from raw recruit to decorated officer, a reward for good sportsmanship and yet another way for us to make sure games are evenly matched.

This is how your experience Rating will look the first time you play. See what rank you can reach.

Wherever people see your Gamertag in Halo 3, they’ll also see your universally visible experience "RPs" and their associated rank status (Sergeant, for example). They’ll have an instant feel for how long you’ve been playing – and how that compares to your relative skill level in a given playlist. Someone with lots of RPs and a low Matchmaking skill level, might simply be new to that specific matchmaking playlist. Knowing that is the key to knowing your enemy. The layers of complexity we’ve built into the system should make it better and less prone to abuse than ever, while simultaneously enriching the player experience.

Stats, medals and other data will all be displayed right in the game, highlighting top performing players in the postgame carnage report, and visible to anyone who highlights your Gamertag. And yet with all this emphasis on progress, behind the scenes we’re making huge strides in making the act and the consequences of cheating and griefing, less rewarding for those who tend to do that kind of thing.

As with Halo 2, your stats will also be available online, through Bungie.net. Although these stats will be very limited during the Public Beta, in fall when the game ships, we’ll go live on Bungie.net with more detail, more information and more flexibility than ever before. It promises to be a massively feature-rich environment for stat-watchers everywhere.

I don't think they do, but a lot of times one of the players on the losing team will get the MVP award so he might get a RP.
You get RP just for playing - that component is purely based on experience, win or lose. The more you play, the more RP you get.

And you can't de-level RP. :)

Show's how much i know. Those were guesses based on my experience so far.

Ding Ding Ding

allows you to store a publicly accessible collection of content, initially Saved Films and eventually (when the game ships) other stuff

Live anywhere a reality? Create your own logos on PC with a Bungie pack then use them in the game?

Yay they have the Green Thumb button layout :-)

My schizophrenic tendancy to always lean on the right thumbstick when the action hot will not always be punished ;)

I think that this post should be quoted in every response for the rest of the night.
It might as well be, since people keep asking the same thing over and over.

8am Eastern.

Check a few post up. I don't post a lot. GAF tends to make me sick too much to get known here.
What? You don't like hanging out with your "GAF buddies"? :lol

Stinkles, please say that you lose something when quitting. Even in training it really blows when people quit.

good god yes. you know what else would be great? if you quit a game prematurely (and i wish there were only a technology that could detect "quitters" from drops and other issues), you get blocked out for a half hour.

Dunno about that since Master Chief is the highest Non-Commissioned officer ranking you can have. A lieutenant is already higher than Master Chief.

That's counting down to 5am Pacific time, which is the same as the PR I quoted in the OP. I'd say that's the official time, and it replaces the original one from February.

:highfive

When Dan Hsu said the Green Thumb config was back for Halo 3 I let out a long sigh of relief. It's the champion's control scheme.

They were in manufacturing in March.

CC : Due to capacity and lead-time, we are completing everything we possibly can in China, including all the Retail Packaging, and reusable shipper, and then storing in an MS warehouse in Yantian China which is our major shipping port to Long Beach. We will ship these over the summer to Memphis, Dublin and Singapore to await the Bonus and Game Disk RTM.
Why ship them over the summer to await discs for a game that ships in November?

September. Believe.
