I'm 99.99% convinced it'll be September. Real question is whether the 360 gets a price cut before or after. An early Halo 3 release allows them to milk the current price for a bumper month (or two)

But that's for another thread.

is there anyway to turn off the d-pad to talk setting? pushing a button [or a d-pad] is the most unconvinent thing in the world. on the Bungie website they talk about a bunch of communcation options. Any way to talk to my whole team without pressing any buttons? I imagine it would be pretty freakin hard to call for backup if you're in a fight if i need to take my hand off the joystick to touch the d-pad

Bungie's own website is counting down to 5am PST. Frankie is Bungie's content manager. I'm assuming that coundown is right.

The FAQ said 12, content usually goes up on Live at 2 and the countdown is to 5.

We all want to know which one it's going to be.

As I said, my money is on 5, but Frankie can at least tell us for sure.

In the Halo 3 Public Beta, the default voice setting is that you can hear and talk to All

For the duration of the Beta, the “Push to Talk” button, which more accurately is a “Tap To Talk” button, is on the D-pad – tap any direction to open a team broadcast channel (which will automatically shut off after a short period of silence). Remember, this feature can be overridden depending on other settings chosen in the UI or Matchmaking rules.

At first I read that to mean the default setting meant you wouldn't have to press a button but now I'm not so sure. If the default setting is talk to all (ranked/unranked affecting the "all") then why need the button?

Also, if I'm reading Bungie's site correctly, does it mean the opposition can never hear you, ever, until the post match lobby? As in no mid kill banter at all?

Would be nice if someone in the beta right now could clarify.

For those worrying about the time of release, Bungie's FAQ for the beta is 3 months old, but Microsoft's press release about the beta is just 1 month old, in which they state 5am PDT for the beta release:

That, combined with Bungie's countdown, surely means the beta is due at 5am PDT.
They're hardly likely to have the countdown wrong anyway

Nothing like a four-button combo to do a double melee. Apparantly someone at MLG - bless their nasty little hearts - found it. Plus side: it's in the beta, so Bungie can fix it in the full game.

Yeah, I hope so. They already increased melee damage to about where it should be. A double-melee would be instant death.

I don't see why he didn't just say the time if it's such public knowledge or why Frankie can't just make a quick post here saying that it's absolutely going up at 5 am PST.
