The Halo 3 Beta Thread

ItsInMyVeins said:
A GTA clone from the guy who worked on the original GTA-games, thank you very much. But would you buy the game only for the beta promised in the future if games are just a casual thing for you? I doubt it.

Ah, right, so this 'casual gamer' isn't going to know about the Halo 3 beta even though it is plastered on every copy of the game, instead he's going to know that some guy worked on GTA was on it's development team

I bought it for the beta and then ended up liking crackdown. And then didn't even need it.

But it was fun.

But you said it yourself, the majority of people who play games aren't forum posters.

I understand you love Crackdown very much and want to believe everybody bought it because it's an awesome game, but you're wrong. I think a lot of people grabbed it because they liked the XBL demo, but let's not fool ourselves, the sales have been batshit insane because of the Beta deal. Get over it.

Eh, I found Crackdown to be dissapointing, so good luck with all that.

I doubt any serious gamers would buy a full price game for a beta - as I said. ****, I wouldn't do it, and I definitely don't count as a casual gamer.

I just have a hard time believing that hundreds of thousands (or even a million or two?) would pay full price for a online beta which is only accessible for a period of time.

Seriously most people I know would have rented the game had it not been for the Beta.

The only thing keeping me from selling Crackdown was the H3 Beta. That game, while beautiful, is just not that fun. I know there are quite a few people on GAF who love it...but I am not one of them.

Mark my words, it WILL happen to a few people.

And they will post here.

I have passed the time today that I had planned to play Halo 3 by refreshing this thread, participating in a discussion about the origins of terrorism on the OT, and periodically looking at the preorder page for the Halo 3 Zune. These are the times of our lives.

Clearly you don't realize what IP we're discussing in this thread.

For what it's worth, now that I don't need Crackdown, it's being traded in this week towards my legendary edition.

haha "any serious gamers" you have no idea how man "serious gamers" have already bought it for the beta. if it was just the beta for 60 bucks hell no but it comes with a full version game as well. thats like saying cause you are a big halo fan and would pay to play it early you aren't a serious gamer. thats wrong.

No, I didn't say that. I said that it isn't "just" a GTA clone. I never said I expected casual gamers to know that. But the game is easly played and has gotten fairly decent reviews too.

And if you read my earlier post you'll see my answer regarding Halo 3-sticker on the cover.

So who is pulling an allnighter, and playing till there eyes fall out?

I've been up since 3 PM yesterday (weird sleep schedule sometimes), and will probably crash out tonight after the Suns/Spurs game and some more Halo 3. But that's just so I can get up and do it all again tomorrow.

Oh yeah I also watched the Yankees lose. That's almost as good as playing Halo 3 but not quite.

I can't fathom the type of personality that wouldn't find some fun in Crackdown. Maybe not $60 worth but at least something.

Ergo, you didn't just buy it for the beta.

i can easily see this being #2 thread
there will be plenty of discussion even after the people get to play the beta

I went to an Arcade Fire concert last night, went to bed mad late, then woke up at 8 am and have been up ever since, I don't see myself sleeping anytime soon if this beta goes up soon either. It's going to be a long night :/

But they'd do it - what am I saying, they DID it for a friggin demo. And again, I doubt people even bother to ask themselves the accurate terms of the beta. They read "Halo 3" and "Playable", period.

It depends on the suns-spurs game. If it's good then maybe so because it won't be over till like midnight.

I think you need the disc so that might have to wait a couple weeks.

I can see it getting 1st. Post after post when it launches, posts to see who is done first, more posts if there are any problem, then more posts about first games, then posts about overall impressions and remembering games played together. We are in for a long journey my friends.

The Crackdown fiasco was all a ploy to get Halo 3 to highest number of posts in a Neogaf thread.

For shame, Stinkles

In other Gears news, I'm playing Gears Act 3 on my new sound system

this is just unparalleled levels of awesome

Crackdown as a GTA Clone is shit. It is however, the best 3D platformer ever made. They should just toss out the GTAness for the sequel and make it all platforming with that jumping style.

I'm one of the guys who bought crackdown for crackdown and isn't even sure he's going to buy Halo 3. Gonna play the beta to decide though. See if its improved from Halo 2.

We can add that this thread had only 5000 posts last night. Thats gotta be some kinda record.

my bet is links will be up within 2 hours, but download speeds will be so crap that we will be waiting a further 2-3 hours.

So you're saying a shit ton of casual gamers bought ZOE for MGS2 alone? :lol

I don't care. I just want to see some progress

I agree. The action parts are the ones that mainly made me dissapointed in the game.

mmm, love the arcade fire :)

The halo 3 beta was kind of an edge pusher for me to buy crackdown, but I probably would have bought it anyways (and im keeping it passed the beta)

I bought Crackdown for Crackdown, and the serving of H3 beta was just dessert. I hope most of the people who bought Crackdown for the H3 beta ended up enjoying Crackdown, because I want some more sweet DLC, and I want a Crackdown 2 where I can finally beat the living shit out of The Narrator.

snoopers said:
Absolutely.

I don't agree. A selling point - yes. The main reason to buy the game - no.

I think the fact that there were so few good PS2-games at the time was a selling point enough.

I'm really pumped for the BTB playlist to be added - 4 vs 4 on Valhalla doesn't do it justice...

Glad to see things are moving forward as well now too...

ok, this will be my new permanent avatar (unless i change emblems in halo 3). i cant change my gaf name, and i dont want to pay MS to change my gamertag, but this should help connect my two names and so when i play with gaffers i dont hear "who is this Loop guy?"

Heh... I didn't even know it was you either, but I forgot to ask... :)
