The Halo 3 Beta Thread

It's definately locked at 30 most of the time. I've seen a few people comlain about AA, but most have not issue. Seems like it's a TV-specific issue.
I am a graphics whore and I can definitely tell that it is not a constant 30fps. I am not worried because they have time to work it out. What really has me worried is the total lack of AA. They could release it without it and I wouldnt really mind, but the AA would make it so much better. Also, the AA problem is not evident in a small monitor, but in both of my 32 inch HDTV's it is really palpable.

So far, my stats rock. :lol! Would've been better if I didn't quit out of the first game (couldn't find thing invert/sensitivity option) and spend the next one trying out the new stuff. But after that... woooo!

Agreed. Valhalla is my least favorite of the three: it's gigantic (too big for most gametypes that matchmaking is setting us up with) and looks the worst imo.
Valhalla's waterfall/water in general make it the most beautiful map.

I'll admit by putting the button on the D-Pad, it's a pain in the ass compared to just hitting the shoulder button, but that's a very minor thing to bitch about. Is pushing a button that hard? It's adds strategy to the game like no other game does.

Is it a pain in the ass or isn't it? Make up your mind. I don't think anyone is saying it's impossible to talk to your team, but to do so is cumbersome. If I find it cumbersome, I know 90% of people won't even bother. No one communicating isn't adding to the strategy one bit.

I just don't see the strategic value. Could you explain it to me? How is pushing a button to talk more strategic than having free communication with your team?
Well you can talk normally to somebody, without pressing the button, but it's only on proximity. The farther away you are, the less they can hear you. So you have to press the button if you want to talk to them. Strategy. Not to mention teams can hear you on just standard proximity.

What I'm saying is I don't like the button being on the D-Pad. But it's not bitch-worthy to me. I haven't had problems communicating with my teammates at all. If anything, we've communicated more on H3 than we have on H2 in many aspects.

Where did everyone preorder? I'm trying to figure out whether to preorder with bestbuy or ebgames.

I've got two Legendary editions on pre-order with Best Buy, both netting me free 1600-point cards. I'd wait and see if they offer a similar deal.

One thing I love most about H3 is how they "de-noobed" it. MUCH less aim assist (you actually have to aim now OH NOES!), less emphasis on dual wielding, shorter melee range, no rocket tracking, strategic playing with equipment, etc.

And then to balance it out, everyone starts off with the AR, so even the noobs have a fair chance at this game. There's much less "race to the best weapon then dominate" going on than we saw with Halo 2. Even the very strongest weapons are nicely balanced by long reload times or slower movement.

I'm already pissed off that the beta ends so soon before product launch. :lol

Um, how about that little clicky thing on my mic that signals it's open?
:D , anyways pressing a button to talk to your teammates != strategy. I think you have a misunderstanding of what strategy is Fox

A classic Giants-Redskins division showdown! Fight!
Interestingly enough, they play on the sept 23rd, only 2 days before Halo 3 launches. Coincident? I think not.

guys playing right now and we keep getting issues were people are flashing saying they are " retriving files from xbox live"? any ideas why this is or hints on fixing it?

Anyone playing now? I just downloaded.

GT: DeadJoshWalking

Played for 30 seconds, got 1 kill, and it crashed :'(

Anyone know why I can't get the damn thing to load playlist information off Xbox Live so I can play a game?
Had that problem last night. I don't think there's anything we can do about it.

May I suggest voice activation? Perhaps begin each phrase by saying "START" and finishing the communication with "END START"? (Not my idea)

I'm already self conscious enough about talking into the mic when there are other people in the room. =(

Bunch of idiots making sarcastic remarks about something they obviously don't understand. Am I close enough?

They're saying there's no strategy in proxmity chat. I say there is. Apparently me trying to explain it hasn't sunk in yet. So let them play and eventually figure it out otherwise they'll bitch themselves to death, find out nobody really cares, and the thread will take another turn toward something else.

Half the games I'm in are just dropping randomly. Meh. This happening to anyone else?

It also seems to be dropping my RP while not adding any matches played.

nope, I played for seven hours straight and It worked fine. It did that to me in Halo 2, but it was a problem with my modem, maybe you should check that out

Thats cause he's not, its all part of his strategy.

When you play enough Halo 2, you understand the strategy in proximity chat.

How many games is "enough"? I have played 4069 games. And I stopped playing back in August.

People want to talk to their teammates.

Ok just had to reset, half of GAF was flashing like a funky late 70's discotek!
by switching playlists and hoping hosts worked its way to just one person flashin (me) restarting to see if it helps?

anyone have a answer on this?

Why don't they just have an option for both types of people? Choose if you want to hit the dpad or talk without hititng anything.

It's a beta! they are testing things out and getting feedback. I would go to bungie.net and submit feedback, if you really want it to get fixed

Why should you even have to worry whether or not your teammate will actually hear you when you talk? That's not strategy, it's an unneccesary layer of irritation. I (and most everyone I've ever played Halo with,) simply press the talk button before saying ANYTHING, regardless of how close I am to anyone. I'm not sure if you know this, but pressing the button or not pressing it has absolutely no bearing on whether or not the other team hears what you're saying.

I thought Ghaleon was having that problem as well (the retriving files from xbox live issue)

It's good in Halo 2, but in 3 you can't even hear the other team if you're playing ranked games. So there's no point in hitting a button to talk.
