The Halo 3 Beta Thread

To support your argument, you're quoting the Bungie.net forums? Wow...that's like using Kotaku as a source to promote a rumor.

I was merely showing you that other people are complaining. You seem to think that its just a few "n00bs" who aren't uber leet like you.

Yep... and in that case I have to listen to the babble the entire game, or if they die I hear them swearing as they die. Nobody in Halo 2 or 3, right before they die presses the team chat deal to go "Oh ****!"... The voice proximity thing is nice to, which is a feature you cant use if its open mic like other games. Everything you have to say doesnt need to be blasted over to your team.

That's because nobody talks, period. I didn't play a single game last night where someone on my team communicated. Team talk>proximity talk, so it should be the one that is always on.

He's pointing you to more people who are angry.

But maybe that's an uncredible source of... people... who play Halo 3?

I hear Halo 3 has an easy-to-use mute feature for that very reason. I suggest muting a player as you're waiting to respawn! That way, you won't have to stop moving to do it!

I'm not going to mute my teamate cause he said "Oh ****!" when he died. Who doesnt say something when they die? It's probably common for a lot of people to say "Oh crap!" "Oh shit!" "Ah!" or something to the shock factor when they are about to die. So I need to mute the person instead? That makes sense... now I can't hear them on teamchat when they have some important info to relay.

The mute option is for the people that play music the entire time... scream in the mic constantly to annoy people... randomly talk to annoy people... or that are just annoying in general.

I proposed that last page as well. If someone wants to smack talk, let them do a little extra work to do it. If I want to tell my team where the bomb guy let me do it without any extra work.

How many thousands of people are playing are playing Halo 3? You find a handful of links and a hanful of people here? I see very few people complaining about it at all. You guys make it sound like nobody likes it. Otherwise, your argument would be null. In fact, the best thing you've ever come up with in this entire thread is to take what I say and just repeat it sarcastically.

If the other team is close enough to hear you if you were to use prox-chat, they'll still hear you if you use team-chat.
You said "were to use prox chat". Does that mean I can turn proximity talk on and off so the opponents don't hear me?

You didnt answer my scenario above. I don't know about you but like I said in Gears I try and give my teammates some extra info right before dieing. Anything to help the team. heaven forbid I try and do that.

We've already tried reason with you. Stopping movement to talk is incredibly lame.

How about the fact that the way it's set up, no one talks in any games period. Even if I was cool with push to talk, I'd be hurt by it cause a lot of people obviously aren't.

I'm in the matchmaking lobby and it won't let me start the game. Whats going on? It keeps blinking "Loading information from xbox live...Party is open to friends and recent players" I already turned off the 360 and it didn't help.

You haven't reasoned at all. You're using anecdotal evidence from your own accords. You obviously aren't that good at the game. You claim you have to stop moving and that can kill you. I tell you I, who have played near 10,000 games, don't have to stop moving and continue to communicate well. You say it's impossible to communicate in a team game. I say it's not. Now, honestly, who should be believed here? The guy who actually uses an argument? Or the guy who just sits and takes everything the other guy says and repeats it sarcastically?

You must have selective reading like my gf has selective hearing. We have tried to explain to you numerous times, but your thick. I never said that nobody likes it. It's clear you do. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a option for those of us who don't, which I guarantee you isn't just limited to me and some bungie.net forum goers. I merely showed you the links to show you that it wasn't just us, but apparently that was too complicated for you to comprehend.

grumpy grumpy.

halo hasn't exactly ever been a game that requires team strategy. at all.
Huh? The team that plays together always wins. People calling enemies out and having 2-3 BR's on them will always be better off then the team running around not communicating. Halo 2 was all about team work and map control and it seems Halo 3 is the same way.

Wtf is the secret to halo? I had this same problem in Halo 2. I can stand there right with my crosshairs on someone and empty clip after clip into them, even using bursts doesn't help. They rarely ever die. Most of the time they'll just turn around, stare at me like I got off the handicap buss and bitch slap me to death =[

weapons, grenades, and melee

The holy trinity of Halo.

Use them well.

People probably did talk, you just didn't hear them cause when they had something to say that was important they didn't know how to tap the button first.

See I enjoy the idea that I can communicate with the Warthog driver without the entire team having to hear me say "Over behind the rock..." "Behind us..." or "Damn it Fox!!! Where did you get your driver's license at!" All that is info the team doesn't need to hear. They will be going "Behind what rock?" "Behind who?" and "Fox cant drive? WTF?"

:D

This is the #1 beef with push to talk. If others would use it, I'd bear with the frustrating but MY GAMES ARE ALL SILENT. It's boring!

Refresh my memory, what was your argument? That pushing a button was strategic? A argument that nobody can comprehend the logic behind? Because you've played 10,000 games you think that means something? That your opinion is more valid? All it means is you have a lot of free time.

Why not have the option to turn always team talk on? WHY NOT?

RE: Tap to Team-Talk

I guess I'm just used to H2 but it doesn't bother me at all. It's just part of Halo. I LIKE the proximity voice feature. I enjoy hearing stupid opponents before they come around the corner blathering away.

I think that the Spartans would have built in Comms and with the helmets would be able to talk to others on their team without making an audible noise. I also think that they must have speakers on the helmet to talk to others who are enemies or not spartans, and I think they would need to toggle this back and forth. It adds an element that you need to think about before you start talking. If you are standing next to your buddy planning something in some cave, you don't need to clutter the lines talking to the whole team. Furthermore, if you need to parlay with an enemy, you won't need to talk to everybody on your team.

I wouldn't have a problem if it were a true toggle where it was either ON or OFF until you hit the D-pad again, but I think you need to be able to turn it on or off at will depending on the situation.

It means that somebody who has actually PLAYED the game would know the interworkings and how to do things more than somebody who played it very little or not at all. Quit complaining, go play Halo 3 and maybe you'll learn how to adapt.

Two problems....

1. The Loading info from Xbox Live problem.

2. When starting matchmaking, it finds enough players, then says "Loading map and gametype" FOREVER! The game never starts. Then the whole process resets.

Been trying to get into a simple rumble pit match for the pasted 30 min.

Yeah no problem with that, but sometimes you can't relay the info... aka they sneek up on you and BAM... your dead but the first words out of your mouth are "Oh shit..." and that breaks the over to the whole team.

Now if you see someone coming at you with the rockets... no problem tap the d-pad and say "Rockets on me..." They look on the map to see where you are and go kill the rocket whore :)

Because Bungie designed it this way for strategical purposes. I'm not the developer. I don't care which way it goes. You want to bitch, harrass Frankie. I've adapted and excelled at it as have everybody I play with. The only people that claim and I quote "nobody talks in team games" are the ones who are complaining here. And by that statement, "nobody talks in team games" they're not playing the game the way it should be played.

Why adapt to broken mechanics?

If you're such a Halo expert, why don't you give us a straight argument that isn't "I've played a lot of Halo guys, trust me."

you can stop being an ass now...

If there were an option, very few would choose the teamchat d-pad option.

This is just as maddening as the click and hold the right stick to crouch walk. Thank god they got rid of that.

Making something more difficult != strategic, it equals frustration and everyone just talking in the open channel. I don't know how many people i've played with who aren't even aware of the nuances of teamchatting because Halo is the only game that does it this way. And when I tell people how to do it properly, I get "why do I have to do that?" or "That's stupid."

Did you miss where I said that I have PLAYED the game? I even posted it a page back. I played 5000 games and I stopped playing in August. I'm sure I too could have 10,000 games played if I hadn't. It's not like I just started playing the Halo series. Give me a break man. Your just trying to make a big deal that you have played it a ton, and make it seem like we haven't.

As I've said many times already: If you're within range, the other team is still able to hear you when you're speaking in team-chat.

I'm not a Halo expert. I've given you straight arguments. You should know them well, you seem to like repeating them sarcastically.

Playing random MM is the way it's supposed to be played. But you're also supposed to communicate. If you're not communicating, it's your own damn fault.

No, I'm simply making the point that nobody I have ever played with has ever complained about pressing a button to talk. I've played with a lot of people. So that tells me you must not be very versed on Halo to understand.

I think it's completely borked at the moment. I now get the beta over screen, and the number of players on Halo 3 listed at bungie went from 50, to 8, to N/A, and now no Halo 3 numbers come up in the rotation on the top of the page.

Sounds like you're pounding someone with full shields. I suck at Halo (I mean, really suck) and yet I made 10 kills in my first game, so it's not like it's impossible to kill someone. You do have to be aware of the shield level though. If they're glowing, you're not doing shit to them.

I do communicate; my team does not. Therefore, I hate push to talk.

There is no way to disable proximity chat. Even when you're speaking in your team's channel.

This is assuming everyone has read the instruction manual... Clearly I didn't get one with the beta and neither did anyone else. Unless someone is bold enough to go to bungie.net and read up on the game would they know the d-pad is the team chat.

It's not a hard concept. I honestly think the biggest issue with things being queit is most people don't know how to use the d-pad. So they don't communicate that well and things seem quiet... and lonely.
