The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Finally got to try it out, pretty fun. I've never been good at multiplayer FPS but it seemed to remind me more of Halo 1 then 2, which is good. Loved the shields you can run but can't shoot through, and the border of the level being guarded by turrets instead of an visible/invisible wall or cliff. Didn't get to see any of the cool new weapons, gotta watch the Supernatural finale. Then I'll be right back to it.

Funny story though: I'm playing w/a 8 party of GAFers. I'm honestly not sure who was who except for Karma Kramer though. We had just done a Land Grab map on Snowbound, and Karma had been on my team and all about grabbing the ghost. So the next match it's the same game, but he's on the other team. My team is all together on one spot grabbing a territory (it's faster), and I see him coming as expected. I yell "jump" and NO ONE but me jumps, he splatters the other three. Then next round I tell my guys to look out for him. We all get on a territory. I see him coming from far away, and say he's coming guys, make sure to jump. NO ONES JUMPS AGAIN but me, he splatters another 3 :lol

Yeah aside from you... I didn't know who was who in that party of 8. Was alot of fun though playing with whoever they were.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll be more options in the final, I'm just trying to suggest them now.

Muting doesn't work though (afaik) since they can still hear you. (right??)

anyone have any info on the ranks, or the highest you can go?
 
So whats the deal with proxity voice? When I am in a map like Vahalla and I want to speak to team-mates... if I just speak can someone across the map hear me? Or do I need to press the D-pad?

Also how close do they need to be for them to hear me?

I really hate this proxity voice shit.
 
Just want to confirm something here with everyone, when there's 2 identical gamertags but one with (1) besides it, means they're playing in splitscreen right? I just want to confirm that i can play online with a buddy using splitscreen, cause i'll buy a pad tomorrow if so.

From about noon (EST) or whenever I got it downloaded until four or five. Took a break, played some more, took another break and fell asleep, then woke up and played for a couple hours before heading to bed.
 
Is it just me or is the custom soundtrack feature disabled for multiplayer?

Or is this just a Beta thing?

I was really looking forward to having custom music (Halo music) playing while fragging.

So how are things tonight? People getting online better, fewer errors? My kid wants to see Halo 3 again tonight but last night she got frustrated and just watched the "loading files from Xbox Live" message for 45 minutes.

It has been working fine for me so far. The files download instantly.

For some reason it's telling me that only 1,000 people are online (even though it's more like 100k) and that only 200 people are in Team training, but it's still finding players so no big deal.
 
I happen to have a copy of crackdown, and i was planning on DLing this beta, but im not a gold subscriber (games dont play too well w/ my college's internet.)

I dont feel like spending 12 bucks for a month of possibly laggy halo, and i've already made my console's three gold accounts. I tried using a 48 hour game pass, but that wont let me download the beta for some reason.

Is my cheap ass shit out of luck for playing halo 3 for a month? Do i really need to spend $13? Advise me.

Halo 3 itself no longer reports the correct number of people playing after that long downtime.

It's a useless feature anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what was causing the slow MM, it worked great last time I played.

You might have luck changing your search priorities under MatchMaking options. There is an option there for prioritizing games with "Good Connection". Haven't tried it yet, but maybe you'll catch a break.

Wow. I felt pretty happy with myself when I played 16 games on Sunday. I think I'll get rid of the family on the weekend, then play all day long.
