The Halo 3 Beta Thread

There seems to be a lack of players playing right now, if anyone wants to play.. My GT is KimiSan. I pretty much suck though.

I had a joke here. It wasn't about the PS3, or Halo, and it would have been terrible.

I hit 30 games earlier today. Thats infinitely more enjoyment to game ratio than Halo 2 games. I eagerly wait for 6 on 6 games so we can get even more gaffers going at once.

hey man once we got going after the servers died had some great games going but man I was playing so long I had to crash, tick tick tick tock today at work cant pass soon enough :)

What hour do you get off regularly? I figure I should get a nap in before you're back, then.
 
I hate the new sudden death. I wish it worked like Halo 2's.

It sucks to be right by the flag scoring and have the game end. As long as the team is carrying the flag it should keep in sudden death.

gona be a good few hours today bud, I have a halo hangover so tired! man my performace went downhill at the end of last nights games :(

At one point I was playin with some kids who had not had a clue about halo or that this was a beta, instant headache :lol

I think the same as contesting. contesting the flag was awesome and added a lot of team work. Sure i suppose the people with iq's between 1 and 10 couldn't figure out someone was lurking around the corner... but that kind of stuff was actually fun.

Yeah I'd like to know the reasoning behind those changes. CTF in Halo 2 was perfect the way it is, the only thing that needed to be changed is the flag bouncing.

The fact that you can't:

1) Contest
2) Throw the flag
3) and that Sudden death doesn't last

makes it a lot harder for the attackers to score. that's gonna be especially bad on bigger maps like valhalla.

And man, the abuse of the Feedback system is going to be horrible come September. My feedback has dropped from 95% positive to 87% or so in the two days of the beta alone. :(

I'll be up for some more games later today, too. I have to go to work in 3 hours and I won't get off until 4 est, though (which is 9 hours from now).
 
whoever I played against last night owned my ass, I think I got only 2 kills :lol

I was doing decent until that battle. I believe I called someone a bastard for finally getting me, as I was using the base shields to block bullets, and they would enter just quick enough to throw a granade.

That would be amazing. I remember a point when Waterworks annoyed the shit out of me, but everytime I get to play it these days I love it.
 
new 360, born in November 06, with my old hard drive, and a new receipt with a new one year warranty!

worst part: to make sure it was broken they hooked it up to the shop's largest screen, and my 360 took the opportunity to behave itself. took five awkward minutes for me to remember that the Forza 2 demo was the last thing to kill it. load it up, presto, it dies.

best part: we were discussing returns and the manager admitted he himself was on his third. :lol

This thread is a beast. Bigger than Pokemon. Bigger than Resistance. Not as big as Oblivion. Ohwell.

Snowbound is turning out to be my favourite map. You could feel completely safe and seconds later you could round a corner and run into a crazy 3 man firefight.
 
played it again today and im still falling asleep while playing :( seems im in the minority concerning halo 3, but this game is boring to me

Here is another post that'll take this thread closer to 12k! :)

Anyway. I feel an urge to buy/play Crackdown (über DLC FTW!) and also be a part of the Halo 3 beta... but I've heard some nasty things about the software bricking/breaking X360 machines. How much of this is true?
 
Anyone else find the "current team holding" indicator in King of the Hill counter intuitive?

If i'm on the red team and the other team is holding the point it shows as a red marker.
If i'm on the red team and my team is holding the point it shows as a red marker.

More than once I've been confused by it. The same problem is in VIP however as your teams VIP isn't marked with a colour its less confusing.

I dont like the new Hill in general, I do find it confusing also.

The teams VIP's should have different colored symbols.

My ratio is below 1.0, but what can I say? I'm a sucker for Team Skirmish - I love it a little more than Slayer, and getting some great teamwork going is so rewarding too...

**** I love this beta - it's going to hurt so bad when the beta is over... sigh...

Saved Films is such an awesome feature - everytime I get some great kills like last night where I more than halfway to the flag dropoff when a Mongoose with two guys on it rode up on me, and I beat them both down with the flag and scored - it's great to just hit X to save it, then watch it later as I eat or browse the net - so awsome! :D

Oh, and stop hating on VIP and Territories damnit!
 
Can anyone give me some pointers for territories? I feel utterly lost playing it, i never know where i should be or when. Its even worse on valhalla since i always get owned by snipers and the lazer from distance while im trying to figure out what i should be doing :p

Every time that mode + map comes up my k/d ratio takes a big hit >_<

I'm still a beginner to halo mp though, so its to be expected ^^
 
This thread is a monster!

I never cared much for Halo, but now I'm actually thinking about buying Crackdown to play the beta. It looks fun enough, but I'll probably gonna get butchered as soon as I enter, seen the fact that I've never played a single match of Halo online...

when you are on Offense, either try getting your team to focus on one territory at a time, or use the sneaky approach and try to sneak through the tunnl-pipe-thingy and grab that back territory.

I like to grab sniper immediately and put aimer on Laser tower, Snipe guy with laser cause the moron always leans out as soon as he gets it. Let my team get Territory 1 first.

Then go to Territory 3 because I can still help with sniper cover.

On defense, it usually helps to spread out

You will (I was). Fortunately the matchmaking system quickly realised that I totally suck, and now I pair up mostly with equally sucky players, and we all have fun. All games should work like this.

Half my games feel like Oddball on Snowbound. My bestest game in Snowball was on oddball though where I went on a 5 man killing spree with the ball.:lol
 
Anyone knows if there are any options available for the video playback? It seems that you can only play it and view it from your 1st person view. :P

I've played 109 games and I've only played 1 Oddball !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I know I'm a "Junior" and therefore my opinion doesn't count as much, but why on earth is this thread not a sticky?

It has nearly 11,700 posts in it right now (more than all the current stickies put together), and over the next few months will surely grow a lot bigger than this?

Is it really "because it's Xbox" ?

Hopefully saved films will work in the campaign mode, as well. So many great moments happened in Halo:CE campaign that would have been great to re-watch and share.

Probably because it's a beta and because there's really no need. It's pretty much been at the top of the form since it was posted.

You could always PM a mod and ask them to tack it. I did that with Crackdown and was obliged for a short while.

Bungie has already confirmed way back that Saved Films WILL in fact be for both SP and MP - rejoice!
