The Halo 3 Beta Thread

That's what I was told. Maybe it's just you play ten games and you go up?

hrmmms.

its definitely not every game it goes up.

maybe a certain amount of loses will raise it, but a win will raise it everytime

You get RP for experience alone. The more you play, the higher your Military Rank. The numeric ranking attached to each matchmaking gametype is determined by wins and losses.

Exactly - the level number is the same as Halo 2 matchmaking - dependant on winning or losing, while your military rank goes up regardless if you win or not...

# Total Kills: 158
# Total Deaths: 167
# Kill/Death Ratio: 0.9461
# Total Assists: 90

I'm a competent halo player at least...I guess I have really long streaks of like 10 kills at a time and then i'll die 11 times straight..i'm very...streaky

B.net:

n Halo 3’s Matchmaking system, you’ll find a ton of new options and abilities. We’ve made our best effort to improve the already social nature of Matchmaking by giving you some new powers while you use the system to find games and opponents. Now it’s easier than ever to meet people you like, with similar skills and experience.

Experience and Rating Points (RP)

One of Halo 2’s defining features was its ability to match players of similar skill levels, for the most enjoyable possible games, with the fairest outcomes. Although it was a success, we’ve used that experience and data to build an even better, more accurate, and fairer system, that will ensure even more balance, better matching and less cheating and abuse than ever before.

We measure both skill level and experience (in the Beta, this experience is signified by "RP" standing for Rating Points) in our Matchmaking system. Some players are destined to become pros, while others will prefer to haunt the middle ranks and enjoy the game just for fun. But we’ll reward every player with experience Rating Points (RP) - earned for time served in Halo 3 Matchmaking. Progress from raw recruit to decorated officer, a reward for good sportsmanship and yet another way for us to make sure games are evenly matched.

This is how your experience Rating will look the first time you play. See what rank you can reach.

Wherever people see your Gamertag in Halo 3, they’ll also see your universally visible experience "RPs" and their associated rank status (Sergeant, for example). They’ll have an instant feel for how long you’ve been playing – and how that compares to your relative skill level in a given playlist. Someone with lots of RPs and a low Matchmaking skill level, might simply be new to that specific matchmaking playlist. Knowing that is the key to knowing your enemy. The layers of complexity we’ve built into the system should make it better and less prone to abuse than ever, while simultaneously enriching the player experience.

Stats, medals and other data will all be displayed right in the game, highlighting top performing players in the postgame carnage report, and visible to anyone who highlights your Gamertag. And yet with all this emphasis on progress, behind the scenes we’re making huge strides in making the act and the consequences of cheating and griefing, less rewarding for those who tend to do that kind of thing.

As with Halo 2, your stats will also be available online, through Bungie.net. Although these stats will be very limited during the Public Beta, in fall when the game ships, we’ll go live on Bungie.net with more detail, more information and more flexibility than ever before. It promises to be a massively feature-rich environment for stat-watchers everywhere.

Maybe its just when you're either solo, or in a group of 4? But it seems like it takes ages to find a group, then drops them, then finds another and drops them. Why not just search for a larger range at the beginning instead of slowly expanding it? The ranges don't seem to make much sense to me, either.

again its a BETA. I'm sure it will be fixed in the final version

Gears of War, but it is a dark game, with small locations. Halo 3 is very vibrant and looks great with big open spaces.

Thanks. Does Halo 3 have a cover system?

I would say graphics to scale they're fairly even. Much like Lost Planet, the individual things aren't as good, but when you look at the game overall...it's spectacular.

Could be something like win 10 times or play X amount to go up a grade?

Yea, in my experience you get 1 point for winning, and you get fractions of a point for losing, so either way you are gaining

Which has the best 'splosions?

ha, you should atleast try out. in terms of fun and game play, Halo 3 absolutely destroys Gears
I've yet to have any picardwtfisthisshit.gif moments on Halo 3 yet unlike Gears of War which happens every damn round.

Eh, I like getting stuck on walls. It happens to me a lot in real life.

Do you play games to look at the graphics or have fun?

I'll have to think this one over and get back to you.

urk said:
But you said Gears has better graphics.

......not by much, plus Gears is a final game while Halo is just in a beta stage. Also, JDfox is right, there are no moments where you don't really know how you died, or get pissed because you deserve to kill someone. The glitches in Gears pissed me off

Yes, there are these things called rocks and hills. It's really innovative. You should try it out!

Are these rocks and hills bump mapped or are they just regular 2D textures?

JdFoX187 said:
Yes, it's called the crouch button.

Where can I find this "crotch button"?

Rocks? Textures? BUT WHERE DO YOU TURN IT ON AND WHERE DOES THE MEAT GO?

What are the chances that Halo 3 will be ported to the PS3 or the Wii? I think it would be better with motion control. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to pull off a melee attack by swinging your atrophied arm.

Did you not get much sleep last night? :lol

I can't believe people are so concerned about graphics, when this is a mulitplayer beta, not the final version of the release. I guarantee you the graphics will be significantly better when this is released in September.

The gameplay is all kinds of **** amazing and the audio is also amazing. This is definitely going to be a serious contender for game of the year!

While I was away, people started saying untrue and stupid things. Just to clear things up:
VIP is terrific, especially at Snowbound.
Territories is much improved, the offense/defense system makes everything much more organized and fun.
Shotty Snipers is waaaay better than Snipers. It's an improvement I was hoping for, becuase watching two people with Sniper Rifles battle it out up close is as awful as watching two dying elderly kangaroos boxing.

If anyone else is wrong, I'll be sure to let them know.

VIP would be terrific at Snowbound if they fixed the damn spawns.

Aren't you the one who didn't allow people comenting graphics in Burnout Paradise because it's early footage?

No. I think the closest I've come to that was questioning the sanity of people for making judgments on a large scale, open world racing game that focuses on crashes and mayhem from a short teaser that shows nothing in the way of said mayhem. I don't typically have a problem with the WIP argument, but using it like this guy did, that's pushing it.

It seems like you lose RP when you quit. Not 100% sure on that however. It also looks like if the other team quits you don't gain any RP either, or at least it is a fraction of RP.

Out of 10 Rumble Pit games I played - 6 were Slayer on High Ground (and only 2 overall were NOT on High Ground).

Please adjust the playlist weights. Other than that - I'm digging it. THANKS BUNGIE.

Well, I read that graphics don't get any better from Beta to retail release. This guarantee you speak of, is it written into some sort of legalese which I can pour over? I'd like to be certain of the language before I agree to anything. Gotta protect myself. I've been burned before.
