The Halo 3 Beta Thread

does the matchmaking actually try to put you in easier matches if you start sucking?

the MM has beeen placing me in laggy games all day today where the people are so much better than i am that it's just totally not fun. it might not be so bad if i didn't have to wait so long to get in matches, but as it is i wait so long and then get into a match where i have my ass handed to me royally.

And actually, I've made a few friends in the beta, and even when people lose, they say GG - I haven't run into any retards yet whatsoever... but then again, I barely do...

That's why it's an awesome strategy to come to the party late. Especially at High Grounds in Rumble Pit people tend to meet for a showdown on either just inside or outside the gate or in the room below the hatch. Wait for a while and come to finish them all. Easy double and triple kills when done right.

well they didn't really have to run, but yeah, i'd assumed that. i'd also assumed the majority of people buying h3 probably wouldn't be new to it either, which is why i'd asked.

i just ran into a guy who told his team that they suck at snipers. then his team left the lobby and left him alone. :lol
 
After a match I had a guy tell me that I should just kill myself because of how many times I died. :lol Oddly though he only had one more kill than me.
 
Oi I've really been sucking my last few matches. What I really hate is when it's one on one, and you're both using the same wepaons and dealing the same damage and you die first...every time
 
I was playing TS on Valhalla yesterday and we were destroying a team, It was around 45-8 so we all got in separate mongooses and rode around the entire map having races :lol
 
So will there be an easy clan system? I'd love to play gaffers only since people here seem more civilized than most in Live usually (although Halo 3 Beta is way cleaner than the rest), and with an easy and unlimited clan that'd be possible since so many are playing this.

There was rumored to be full Xbox LIVE clan support with the last update, but that's been rumored to be pushed back until the fall update. From what I've heard, you'll have a clan on Xbox LIVE and that'll carry through all games, not just individually.

Don't use it for a quick, close-range firefight, but I guess you already know that.

Try and find people who aren't expecting it, then charge it up looking away from them (at a tree or something) then at 2/3 look at them, they won't have time to run.

Oh, and if I have one and somone gets the jump on me I try and hide (the cave where the sniper rifle spawns on Highground is great) throw a couple of grenades to stop them coming after you for a second then I charge up mah lazor and they'll come right into the beam.

Track guys really slowly too. Does that help at all?

On top of this, I always keep it charging. Don't let it shoot, but just keep it charging that way if you find somebody, you don't have to wait even longer, it'll just go ahead and fire. I got a double kill on a VIP and some poor bastard standing next to him earlier today in Snowbound with the laswer, it was great.

Also, remember that the melee is two-hit kill with it. Throw a grenade down and lower their shields and then one melee will kill them.
 
Some little crybaby on my team got mad that i took the sniper in the beginning of a match on Valhalla. I got one kill before i got sniped by the other sniper (oops) and the guy starts trash talking and betraying me for losing the sniper. Just to piss him off, I grabbed the sniper when it repspawned and shot myself through the mancannon to the other team and let them kill me so they got it again.

I marked him as an 'avoided player' -- Bungie actually takes this into account during matchnaking, right?

I believe so.

There was a guy who took the sniper on the first offense of High Ground CTF and lost it without even firing a shot. So, the third round, I take it and he starts shooting me and grenading me. It was funny because he ended up getting killed while trying to kill me and I killed the guy who killed him. So much killing :lol

Nah, he totally did the right thing, I get so ****ing sick of people who take this game so serious. You start complaining on me and I'd do the exact shit and then probably quit, everyone has bad games,etc. so people just need to STFU and play.

Hmm, just played a game where everyones connection was red and there was a guy like standing in place havin a seizure and he wasn't holding a weapon yet he was alive...:(

I agree, the sniper really is excellent at the moment. No H2-like aim assist and a nice rate of fire which kind of leads you to want to make your shots all count.

It's still one of my must have weapons, but it much more balanced. I usually sit on the beach near the sniper spawn cave with my sniper and battle rifles ready to pick off fools. Or, I would be doing...had I not returned the game to Blockbuster today, 3 day rentals are just not long enough.

Yeah, something as simple as this helps ease frustration when you spawn in a big map. Sure, you will occasionally be sniped right away but now you have more time to get out of the way.

How did you get a kill breakdown like that? Is there a list of weapons and kills, or did you just break it down from the info they give you?

Edit: Nevermind, found it on Bungie.net. I assume you can't get the stats up ingame, or can you?
 
My god the community is so ****ing terrible in the higher levels, I haven't played a single game in the past few days where someone wasn't crying about a teammate not doing well or someone stealing a weapon from someone else. I love telling them to STFU and muting them, so fulfilling.

The stats on the website only upload after the game is completed (sometimes it may take a few mins I think).

You should be able to see most of those stats in the post game lobby (press back button when a game is done and Right bumper to scroll through the different statistics).

Yeah, there's both an in-game list and online (Bungie.net). In game you just highlight & select yourself on the post game scores list and it'll give you all sorts of stats that you can scroll through. Including that.

As for this specific case, I was wondering what Nino was talking about, so I went to Bungie.net to check MMarsu's stats on the last matches he had and copy/pasted them from there. It'll be under Breakdown and Tools of destruction.
 
I got crackdown with a friend and played 2 days long. But I had to give it back to him.

Is there any way to play without crackdown disc since I already installed the game? Invitation or something?

Nope. If you dl'd it via Crackdown you'll have to use the disk all the time to start/run the Beta.

I was just looking through my (middling) stats. How did I get a kill with "Classified". Is that Equipment use like a Powerdrainer or Trippmyne?
