The Halo 3 Beta Thread

I LOVE pizza. At Pizza Hut if you order 2 more more pizzas in a month and if you're in their VIP program you get a coupon for a free large pizza. Last I checked I think I've gotten like 40+ free pizzas:D

Pizza Hut VIP > Halo 3 VIP confirmed.

Pics of the Banshee for us suckers at work, please.

Oh, and 6 vs. 6 on High Ground sounds awesome... that's not the biggest map in the world, I'd think there'd be people
targets
everywhere!

Goddamnit, Bungie. I'm at work! I'm trying to redraft the financial impact of quantity disconnects and you're updating the playlists. Do you know how this consumes me? How all I want to do is shoot at Banshees with the Missle Pod? Who cares if 75,000 units are shipped but not recieved? I still can't fly around Valhalla!

****!

6v6 team slayer on Highground is teh shit! Always and everywhere firefights, cool stuff happening, people using equipment, lasering. Faraway background sound effects are even more awesome. Very intense and fast. This gets my adrenaline flowing.

Message to (some) Brits: I know you guys speak english, but sometimes I just can't understand you guys even if I try, especially when you're speaking very fast...my brain just tunes out. whatdog.gif

Also used the a-hole button for the first time on a little punk who just kept on talking.

Just got home...BTB IS UP?! *eats as fast as he can*

I saw that it was 12 in some screens before the beta came out. Is it gonna be 12 max in retail? No more 8v8? :\

So, I've played the Halo 3 beta yesterday.

But I'm not that special anymore I guess :(

Right now, I think the game is too similar to Halo 2. Graphics aside, the game is just a next-gen copy of Halo 2. It gives me the same gameplay experience as last time, so I guess I'm somewhat dissappointed by this beta.

I do know it's a beta but I don't see any major changes between now and September

Am I the only one who remembers the Twisted Crust Pizza? It was sooo good, and you didn't need to order breadsticks because the crust was just like breadsticks. Yum!

Umm... anyways, I've played 3 BTB games, and they're great. High Ground was pretty good, a bit crowded, but Valhalla is great now. Territories and VIP, and it was great. I'm very happy to see the potential of Valhalla being realized.

What do you find so disturbingly similar? I feel like the game is so much better that it makes Halo 2 look primitive.

What exactly did you expect? GTA-style gameplay? It's Halo 3. What we want is an improved, tighter experience, which is what we've seen so far.

People still debate whether Halo 2 MP was better or worse than Halo 1's MP. To this day I can toggle between the two and with minor adjustment, can play them both well. There will be no such debate with Halo 3; it's not even a question. Going back to Halo 2 MP feels like I'm playing something broken, when before I found it to be whole.

Well, if you've played Halo 2 trough and trough I guess you'll find quite some changes. But I've played trough Halo 2 single player maybe two or three times and then -some- lan games, nothing more.

I just think that players like me won't be able to find that many new features. I mean, this is probably the next standard for console shooters, but maybe I was just expecing something different.

Yeah, if you were expecting a major overall, you'll be disappointed for sure. It's a true sequel, though the gameplay has been tuned, tweaked, and augmented, it's still Halo when you get down to the marrow of it.

The core Halo gameplay is entirely intact. However, one can easily make a list of the litany of new features:

*Independent reloading of dual-wielded weapons (trust me - this matters)
*Mancannons
*Shield doors
*Equipment (that's four new, game-changing features that we've already seen)
*New class of weapons - the support weapons (turret, missile pod)
*Veto in matchmaking
*"Party up" feature in matchmaking
*Saved mother****ing films

There is a substantial amount of new content and features added to Halo 3. In addition, everything that was a problem in Halo 2 - weapon balance, sound design, spawn weapons - has been overhauled and polished.

I think your limited time with either game may be inhibiting your ability to make a comparison.

Plus all the shit that's not even in the beta

I notice the improvement but to the casual gamer, they seem underwhelmed. I showed the beta to my buddies and they weren't compelled to play it at all and didn't even comment on the graphics.

I think it'd take someone to play both games within minutes of each to appreciate the upgrades.

"Board an aircraft"

Note it does not say, "Board a banshee". That would be too specific.

(spotted at HBO forums)

An aircraft... hmmm...

Hmmm.

HMMMMMM.

And I love how they keep making these updates (this one was huge in comparison - Banshee + 6vs6!) - who knows what they'll add next!

This beta will never get old, despite it being so limited... holy crap!

What's the 'party up' feature?

After a match, checkboxes appear next to your names in the post-game lobby. If you were just matched up with some guys and had a good time - just hit "X" and you form a party and keep playing with them.

I used that the other night to great effect. I ran into a pair of guys that were excellent on team-based games. Myself and my friend joined those two after their one game and we played several more together, then he tossed me a friend invite. Great social feature to make new friends.

I think it's really easy to forget that this is a beta we're playing too. Comparisons aside, from the moment I started playing this build, it's felt really polished. If this was the final version of multiplayer, the final weapon set, and the only addition would be new maps and vehicles, I think I'd be pretty damn happy. That said, the fact that there are dozens of surprises in store for September makes the little fanboy in me scream like a bitch.

Absolutely, that is exactly what I'm saying. But there are a -lot- of players like me. I just hope that the Singleplayer won't be diminished by the Multiplayer just so people like me will also have enough reason to buy the game. And that is just the part we haven't seen anything of up until now.

Bungie seem pretty determined to make a great single player experience, especially after Halo 2. Besides, you get to Finish the Fight! That must be good!

Oh, you'll see it between now and September. And when you do, your pants will explode and you'll run to the bank to extract $180 dollars and gleefully plunk it down to preorder the Legendary Edition of Halo 3.

I totally just dropped a Banshee by launching straight at one via a man-cannon and nailing it with a charged PP shot on my way past it.

I wonder if you can jack a Banshee in mid-air using the man-cannon...

Big Team Battle is laggy. Voice output is borked for certain players.
How come it is always you who gets a crappy experience? I am not saying that it is impossible, but you really have bad luck.

So I was thinking, the veto system doesn't give you any recourse if the second game sucks. What they should do is:

Majority to veto first game
2/3 or maybe 3/4 to veto second game
100% to veto any game after that

One time there was an 8/8 veto for a team shotty snipers on snowbound, and the game we got instead was team shotty snipers on valhalla

I think one veto is plenty.
Once there are more maps and gamemodes in the future, you won't need multiple vetos.

I think there should be some kind of way to abandon the game if the type is really bad, something you just do not wish to play, beyond vetoing.

Either that or improve MM options to turn off things you hate.

You will if you happen to get 2 shitty map/mode combos in a row. It's unlikely, yes, but that's why you increase the %, so people don't just do it because they want to play on a certain map/mode

True. I was pretty upset at the Warthog and Ghosts' lack of new..... anything?

I guess I could expect the same with the banshee.

(do not flame me. I am die hard Halo fan. Shut up! )

So tired though..

Step away from the controller. You disgust me.

I did a 15hr Beta stint the other day. Only thing I ate all day was a piece of cheese.
