The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Default is perfect for me as far as aiming, I do wish I could turn around faster sometimes, but I've found that if I pull the stick hard and fast enough I'm usually ok.

My 47 is in Team Slayer, pretty much done with all random people, but it's alot easier to level up in 3 from what I can tell. I'd love to get a good consistent group that doesn't whine and complain when I have an off game or something, haven't fooled with the TS list really in a day or two due to cry babies.

What is the damn deal with people quitting out 5 minutes before the match end when our team is only 3 behind, why!? I only came back to this forum because the game locked up on selecting a new host, damn bungie at last make punishment for that kind of leaving harsh so it stops people doing it... I think
You lose 2 RP for every DNF. This is terrible for people with crappy 360s, like me, but I'll have my own by the time the game releases and you had better believe I won't settle for any freezing.

Re: sensitivity, I use six. It's hard, though, because the 360 controller is a bit twitchier than the S, but if I pick a lower number I turn too slowly.

Now that's just f'ing ridiculous!

I play every night, but you guys (including Ramirez, dayum) make me feel like I'm not playing enough! And on top of that, I mostly play Team Training... looks like I got to really get back into Team Slayer or Rumble Pit to get past my Lieutenant Rank (which still wows people whenever they see it because it's still rare I guess, but nothing compared to you guys)...

I was out all day and missed some Halo 3 quality time today as well... darn... :(

Ramirez said:
What sensitivity do most of you use? People sound dumbfounded when I tell them I use default. >.>

Wow - I would have never imagined that you'd be on Default - I use 10 (Insane) - the max sensitivity - in fact, I use the max sensitivity in every shooter I play, including Gears and Lost Planet as well - it helps when getting jumped from behind, turning around in less than half a second...

My team has lost 17 times in the last 19 games.

Of the other two, one match there was a clan on my team and the other three people on the other team quit.

Valhalla is better with more people.

I play too much really, but like I said, my school semester is done, fav. gaming franchise, might as well play it while I got it :lol

Yea I used the highest setting in Gears, but even on the highest I felt it was still too slow in that game, people out roadie running my crosshair drag :lol

Yeah. It's not the same system as Halo 2. It's a modified version of TrueSkill apparantly. I don't know how I feel about it. I just finished 2nd (out of 4) in Rumble Pit and dropped from 43 to 42, then finished 3rd (out of 5) and got my 43 back. It's weird.

I got yet another red ring of death today. No more beta for me.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY SUNSHINE AWAY!

I don't remember what default is, but I'm using 7 at the moment. I should pump it up to 8, but I'm fine for now since I've never been in a fight where I felt I lost because I couldn't turn/aim quick enough.

I use 2 for a steady crosshair, but I got to get use to no movement accel like halo 1 and 2 had because I keep twiching too much and missing snipes and lazer shots :(
You must be the best motion tracker user/enemy location predictor ever to stick with a sensitivity that low. I fought a few people that must've had sensitivities around that and if you got the jump on them it was over.

There was one guy that literally couldn't turn faster than I could run. So you could circle strafe around him all day and not worry about getting touched.

Even worse was another player who got the jump on me out in the open with the chaingun in hand. Luckily I had a Bubble Shield and dropped it on the floor between us. Of course he comes plodding over into the shield, so I bash him in the face, run around him and smack him in the back of the head before he could turn around. :lol

I agree - even on max sensitivity, I feel that the aiming is still way too slow in Gears - like you said, it's too slow to pick off roadie runners, but I guess it's okay, given the tactical pace and feel of Gears...

I used 7 in Halo 2, but since now the default weapon is the AR, I use 3. Also, 7 without auto aim is crazy.

Well I don't find it that low, I can easily turn around fast enough but the skill is to always keep an aim at a point of interest, theres been times where someone from the side of me got an advantage but normally thats not because I cannot turn fast enough. I guess im use to slow crosshairs because of lost planet.

This is so lame. The past 3 team slayer matches I've had two people drop in each. The first we still won, mostly due to a poor opponent, but we're just getting slaughtered here. Not fun.

Welcome to last week. How bout you spoiler that for those who don't want to be, uh, spoiled? Fanks.

Like I said, when the thread gets this big it moves in cycles. Now we just need someone to bring up the BXB combos are whatever and state they're not cheating and the circle in complete.

:p

Okay, so more griping about the hog. I stuck it twice. No kills and the thing kept rolling around, turret blazing. First sticky hit the rear wheel. It barely bounced. Three man crew unfazed. Second plasma lands on the rear bumper. It explodes with the same effect. That is to say: none.

Lame.

So I was in this match last night and I did a melee, then I tried reloading and then I decide to do another melee and I pulled off some weird double melee combo. Is this supposed to happen? I hope it's in the final game, for the truely skilled players.

Well, everyone can do them, so they'll be in the final. It's cool with MLG, so Bungie has to allow it.

They really need to do something about the hog. If it's gotta be so tough they should at least make it flip over with grenades or something.

Aren't we also due for some graphics complaints about now?

Your best bet for dealing with hogs is to aim for the people, not the hog itself.

I've never been frustrated by an unstoppable hog, but maybe that's because I haven't faced any good warthog drivers/gunners

The turret is too powerful and yeah, it's practically indestructible.

I don't think they'll add a curbstomp or a chainsaw, because the graphics engine can't handle it.

Someone at school told me that the Unreal 2 engine, that Halo 3 obviously uses, can only render one unique character model and no third person perspective. I hoped to see a third person mode with different models for the enemy-team in the retail.

I don't know about that, but I do know that the Halo 3 engine obviously can't do hair.

Are the sensitivity settings the same as Halo 2? I switched from 5 to 7, recently.

there's a video on blim's site (xboxyde.com) of some gaf members dominating in a warthog... think it was like 25 kills or something without dying. they took missile pod fire, gun fire, grenades, everything without dying.

*edit* I seriously hope you don't believe your friend.

Actually, it's a heavily modified version of the Stubs the Zombie engine.

Those people deserved to get dominated. Most of the kills were 1 vs. warthog, of course the warthog is going to win. If that team had worked together instead of trying to attack it SOLO on foot, in a warthog or mongoose, they could have taken it out.

And it only got hit by 2 missiles. If they had gotten in the man cannon with it while the warthog was in the open, they could have fired 5 missiles before they hit the ground

Shoot me a FR. My tag is Htx Darren Htx. I just started playing the Team Slayer list a few days ago but I'm a 34 in Rumble Pit. I just got tired of playing by myself and wanted to see how well the Team lists are since I hardly play(ed) them. I really like it now though so if you're looking for a teammate hit me up.

I drive the warthog a lot and if the other team is good you can get owned pretty easily between the mancannon, laser, sniper, and various grenades - a good driver can avoid these, but it takes a little luck sometimes too. Key is to never stop moving ;) Anyteam who allows themselves to get owned deserves it because there are plenty of ways to stop it ... though you have to give the drivers/gunners some credit sometimes

So when you stick the same hog with two plasma grenades as they camp the base, you deserve to get owned? Okay.

no, i am not saying that - plus a concussion grenade would have flipped it. Its really tough to spawn camp in this game since its always changing

Yup, frag did flip it. They landed on their wheels and drove off. I've got video of me driving a hog around Valhalla taking all kinds of damage, flipping, getting naded, all that, and just moving people down with ease. It needs to be nerfed. A direct hit or a stick from a nade should toast it, plain and simple. If it hits a wheel, the wheel should blow off. As is, it might as well be a wraith.

Don't flame me if this question has been posted and answered yet, but . . . anyone else notice that you can't see the halo ring extending up into the sky on any of the levels? Does this mean that none of the maps actually take place on a Halo? Or perhaps the graphical touches such as that haven't been added yet and that explains it? Or, did something happen in Halo 2 that would explain this omission? Thanks.
