The Halo 3 Beta Thread

The problem with this is that people will make the worst gametype imaginable, and, for a time, these horrendous gametypes will be insanely popular and it's all that you'll be able to find. It's the internet way. :lol

This is true. I'll probably be sticking to matchmaking any way, since I like the level of competition there.

It's custom, so it's not like they'll show up in normal matchmaking searches.
 
custom games are hott...the options are insanely detailed. Pistol seems to be a nice balanced weapon. It's meant to be dual wielded though. I predict that a lot of people will bitch about the pistol being weak, but i can already tell that it fits nicely into the balance of the game. Sword has ammo and goes down 10% with each use, which gives it 10 kills before depletion. Overall, it too seemed a bit more balanced. I'll have to see if i can find that wraith tomorrow though.

Can you lunge in the air, and is the lunge distance reduced a bunch?
 
Yeah the sword lunge isn't nearly as much as it was before. You have to be pretty close now, and the battery depletes now as well so it's balanced much better this time.

That VIP match was fun.
 
Hey I'm gonna hop on in about 30 min fellas someone hit me up, I didn't even know there were customs or pistols etc etc. I'm dying to check it out my XBL tag is HUNGRYTOWN.
 
There are a RIDICULOUS number of settings.

Hundreds.

Some don't seem to work, like the custom powerups and team glow, but the player speed and gravity and tons of other ones work just fine
 
Yep, played a bunch of custom games like Ninjaball on Snowbound, low gravity CTF on Valhalla, and Ninja CTF on Snowbound. Jump on the man cannon with low gravity settings and it'll shoot you to the top of the hill in the middle.

The new Wraith with a turret is an unadulterated DEATH MACHINE. It is held back though by its lack of manuverability though.

Not sure about the pistol. I found that you can only shoot once while zoomed in (it zooms you out after the shot). IIRC, you could do that in H:CE.

Correct. Step one in pistol nerfing 101. It's slower and slightly weaker than the H:CE version as well, but this one is dual wieldable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were. If they wanted people messing around with them, they would've made it available through normal means.

The Hex is probably the biggest offender though.

Makes me wonder. I think they'd be more upset with the stuff being discovered in code.
It's not like we didn't know that Wraiths, pistols and swords won't be in the game.
 
I thought the pistol was fine in the games I played. Maybe it was cause of the settings but in that Valhalla match , it seemed to get quite a few headshots and kill pretty quickly.

The wraith seems to shoot a lot further now. It seemed like I could shoot from one side of Valhalla to the other. The mortars or whatever are a bit smaller but have more length.

Binoculars, every gun that doesn't have a scope has that.
 
Geez, I've been looking through the last bunch of replies and I can't believe all this shit is in the beta build. I've gotten a couple of custom game invites, but will be staying out of 'em so as not to spoil anything that I haven't already read about.

It all sounds so awesome, though. Playing some of the new gametypes-- and old ones too-- with low-grav and super-speed traits should be a hoot. I'm liking what's being said about the sword adjustments, too; they could've gotten rid of the damn thing altogether for all I care, but it's nice that it's at least been toned down.

Less than four months to go now. :D
 
BTW, Wraith seems to have a weakness in the back now like the ghost has... little engine/fan kinda thing, if you shoot that part enough it'll explode the wrath.
 
while its awesome to see all the new stuff in this, its obvious that its incarnation in the public beta wasnt meant for us to see and is definitely a work in progress. i really really hope we dont see tons of posts about how broken certain aspects in custom games are

I remember why I loved matchmaking so much though, I know people were just trying stuff out, but every custom I was in was a pretty miserable gaming experience :P
 
If you were in my games (travistouchdown), the pistol may have seemed bad because I was messing with health and shield settings

Frag + Headshot is hype.

Maybe it was my lag, but I didn't feel my shots connect with the pistol often.
And there is no reason you'd pick up a pistol over an AR. Just none really.

As a dual wield, the rate of fire prevents it from being of any use. And dual pistols are so innacurate, its just as I said.... pointless.

Every other weapon had purpose, but the pistol.

But, this is beta, and I trust bungie, and honestly, I hope the pistol is just completely removed as to shut up the halo 1 enthusiasts entirely.
 
Man, played with a couple of idiots a while ago. They were tking and just doing random bullshit and messing with us and their excuse was that "this is just the beta why should I play?" :\

Anyone else having trouble with recording movies? I thought it might be because I had too many, but I deleted all but one and still couldn't get it to record any of my matches. Had some awesome things I wanted to record. :(

PS: what's up with the teams almost always being stacked? Ever since I became Lieutenant, I've been on the heavily stacked team every time. Majors and Lts vs a bunch of privates. It's real bad...I feel bad for them. And I used to be in the same boat before I hit Lt.

Did you try reseting your Xbox? I encountered a bug which wouldn't allow me to save any of my games until I reset the console. I'm pretty sure it happened when I started saving the file right after the match ended, but then whoever was the party leader backed out of the post game screen during the save.
