The hardest game you ever finished

Playing a hard game is one thing - finishing it is something different!

For me its: Mega Man 2 on the original Gameboy

I never played a game that is so hard again but i finished this beast 2 times when i was a kid and it was a realy great moment.

For me it was Section Z on the nes. That game was brutal, but once you got into it, it was a great shooter.

Not really hard but the last level of Psychonauts was a pain in the ass. Other than that, Dracula X for the SNES. I'm sure some people here still hate Konami for what they did to Dracula's throne room during his 2nd transformation in that version.

Battletoads-NES

took me and a buddy months over the summer to finish it.
This. My brain fell out when I was done.

Haven't beaten Battletoads yet, so it would have to be...

God, I've never known such a short game to take so long to finish. Everything is against you, and those Red Demons are just ridiculous. The worst stages are the third - which is filled with the red bastards - and the last, which is a boss run where, if you do manage to beat it, you'll only scrape through with seconds to go on the time limit. It's ironic then, that the final boss is a piece of crap. It was like a slap in the face, but not as bad as when you beat the final boss only to find you have to play through the whole thing again.

Never played the NES version for more than five minutes, but I did finish the SNES one. awesome game. CAPCOM is too great, even their sadism tastes good.

Ninja Gaiden for Xbox or Devil May Cry 3 for PS2. Default difficulty. I am not hardcore, I don't usually bother with masochistic games.

ditto, and it took me like fifteen years of on-and-off playing. i still haven't beaten the arcade version, the red arremers in which are less glitchy and less predictable. r type 1 and 2 are up there as well -- i've one credit cleared the first. at one point i was indecently good at r type delta. a point coinciding with finals. which wasn't so good for my grades

ha. took me a week earlier this year when I went back to it. :D

i beat ghostbusters for NES...

without a turbo controller..

surviving the pain was hard... and the reward was worhtless lol

no idea what was the hardest actual game i beat but ghostbusters was the most pain inducing for various reasons..

need reasons see AVGN

My memory is not that great, so I will just go with the most recent game. Ninja Gaiden 2 + mission mode and all Tests of Valor on Master Ninja (4400 kills I think for the end game stats). But really it's not that hard if you know the game well enough, except for a few of the missions on Master Ninja.

A few of the missions on Earth Defense Force 2017 solo on Inferno were pretty hard too.

Maybe Naxxramas (in WoW) back in 2006, but that was obviously a team effort.

I'm not even good at gaming, but memorization helped me get the S rating/ending in Contra Shattered Soldier (single player).
That was after months of playing and a 6 hours straight (and maybe a little more) marathon that day.

I don't count on doing that ever again.

ninja gaiden on hard wasn't as difficult as dmc3 on normal

so yeah,my vote goes to dmc3 as well

Trauma Center - All the X levels, nearly broke my wrist and DS.

I salute you. I tried the first X level and could not stop all those damn fish from cutting up the patient's stomach.

Oh wait, I forgot about EBA/Ouendan 2...those were pretty damn hard sometimes.

That game is HORRIBLE.

The difficulty is insane. I finished it a couple of months ago trying not to use save states but I had to. I seriously had to. I can't think of myself as a child actually going through the entire game. I would've thrown the controller out of the window, if not the game itself.

Double Dragon 3

I remember flipping through an issue of Nintendo Power and looking at the high score section and seeing that five other kids had finished it as well. I thought the magazine just made the names up.

I remember when I was a kid (10 I think? I don't remember the year), my friends were all amazed that I beat Ninja Gaiden 2 (for NES, I forgot there was a 360 NG2) in a weekend, granted I did nothing but play it after convincing my mom that I just had to have this new hot game. Trying to play it now does nothing but depress me. I would have said Battletoads but shit, I never finished that game.

Modern games, I'd say DMC3, I had no problem with the original, and a blind guy with no arms could beat DMC2, but DMC3 made me its bitch. Upon beating it, I traded it in and swore that shit off.

That said I bought the easier DMC3SE immediately after release

SMT Nocturne was also a bit rough, but only for a new player...playing it armed with knowledge of its design and quirks makes for an easy ride unless you get fucked by bad luck.

Mega Man Zero, x6, DMC1-Hard, DMC3 (original Normal), Trauma Center (up to the natural ending), Goldeneye 007 (00 Agent)

I could also finish some 10 foot songs in DDR back in the day.

I would name something from the SNES era, but I now realize that I was just a weak gamer back then. I mean the last boss of Super Mario World gave me and my pal trouble. :lol

So if we're talking within the last decade I'd say God Hand. The best part was taunting the enemies so they'd get ever harder. Damn, I love that game.

REALLY hard games usually just annoy me too much to finish, but probably the hardest game I have finished is either Ninja Gaiden on Xbox or Devil May Cry 4 on Son of Sparda mode.

I seriously need to broaden my horizons. It's probably StarTropics (Chapter 5 to 6 to 7 = Mind fuck levels of difficulty increase) or Super Mario Bros. 2 JP (Fuck you World 8, FUCK. YOU.). :lol

Also, Mega Man Zero & Metroid Prime 2 were that bad for people?
