Include a digital copy with purchase, and this might be the new way I buy music.

Oh wait, that includes the Audio CD too?
Not bad

it's also $705. But for 4 discs (one of which is a BRD hi-def audio disc), lossless download, and multitrack files? worth it.

it said $70 for a second on the site and then changed to $75.

Where did you pick those up?
I price matched Fry's at Circuit City. Circuit City will match the price, then give you an additional 10% off the 16.99difference, so 24.99 - 9.99 * 0.1 = 1.50, so each disc was $8.49

Face Off was $29.99 at CC, so they cut it beyond the 16.99 at Fry's.

Good deal.. I've bought too many movies lately. :D

I'm sorry, but that movie lacks detail. A really sub par HD movie. When you get a chance to see other Tim Burton flicks like Ed Scissorhands and compare the level of detail, you'll understand.
I guess when compared to Corpse Bride, it doesn't have as much detail... but it really looks good to me. Especially the beginning with the fog, and evaporating titles. Look quite nice.

I'm debating if I should get it. Must be a great sound demo material. I like NIN but far from being a hardcore fan. $75 is a bit steep for me to make an impulse buy.

but then again you get instant access to the music via download. You get two compact discs, a data DVD with multitrack files (only really useful if you plan on remixing but still cool by itself), and a BRD with the album in 96/24 sound and all of these discs are cased in that awesome book.

I'm not trying to change your mind, just letting you know what all comes in that package for $75.

Wow, Rattatouille was amazing all around. Still debating whether its the best looking CG movie in high def, but it is certainly a stunner. The audio was also surprisingly great. Great use of the sub and surround. The score really stood out as well. I also enjoyed the movie a lot more than when I originally saw it in theaters. I know I'll get a ton of use out of this disc.

I was watching the PiP stuff in Resident Evil : Extinction and then some dud pops in and says Alice is the center piece of the RE franchise.

That made me sad :(

Beowulf is another contender for best HD CG movie. But Ratatouille has more vivid colors so it's somehow a better showcase because of it.

It's a tough call for me. Right now, I still think Shrek 3 was overall better for PQ. That movie just looks unbelievable. Ratatouille is of course the better movie, and has better audio as well imo.

So if I'm watching BR on the PS3 that supports 7.1 by DTS-HD, is that downconverted to 5.1 or what? Is it best to play it in DTS-Neo? Also does that support 6 channels or 7?

Neo6 is for converting lesser signals into 6.1 or 7.1.

The movies you mentioned will play in 5.1 DTS.

Was there any official reason given why BSG:Razor was never released in HD? Watched the DVD over the weekend, enjoyed it much and certainly appreciated more than I would have the crappy compressed SD signal Comcast bestows upon the SciFi channel. But the main show episodes have been airing in HD on Universal HD, so why not Razor?

So wouldn't it make sense to use DTS Neo since the PS3 is going to downconvert the 7.1 track to 5.1?

I am kind of glad personally, because the hd dvd release of Galactica was less than stellar.
Hopefully they will do a re-encode along with razor soon.

This is pretty weird...

I see DP is also on BR, but is PT not on HD-DVD in Germany?

NVM, I see it's still up in the air right now. Anyway I wonder if any of those cases are steel books. DP looks like it going by the stock pic...

i think i want to add to my blu ray collection. I would like a scary movie that could be watchable like in 2-4 months after i watch it the 1st time. I was thinking about 30 days of nights on blu ray? is the picture good? i heard it was, but i'm mostly concerned; is the story good and is it really scary??

I'm currently listening to the stream ... and while I'll likely get the BD version, I'm not sure I've heard much that will likely benefit amazingly from the higher resolution ... at least for demo purposes.

While you may be able to hear a difference when A/Bing them, the problem with mostly electronic music is that you don't really have a reference point for how its 'supposed' to sound ... nor are there tons of harmonics, etc naturally occuring.

The PS3 can't decode DTS-MA ... therefore there is nothing to 'downconvert'.

The PS3 is simply outputting the DTS 1.5Mb 'core', as DTS was desingned to use 'extensions' for the higher fidelity formats. To my knowledge, the core is always 5.1 ... and does not include ES encoding, even if the source material is 6.1 or 7.1 ... though I'll have to verify that.

Episodes on Universal HD look good enough that I'd prefer it over straight DVD IQ.

New Indy SE DVDs announced, with no Blu-ray announcement in sight. Fucking fail Paramount & Lucasfilm. Fucking fail.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: Special Edition will also feature anamorphic widescreen video, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) and 2.0 (French, Spanish) audio, An Introduction by Steven Spielberg & George Lucas, 2 featurettes (Creepy Crawlies and Locations), a storyboard sequence for The Mine Cart Chase, 4 image galleries (Illustrations & Props, Production Photographs & Portraits, Effects/ILM and Marketing) and the game trailer and demo for LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.

Finally, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Special Edition will also feature anamorphic widescreen video, as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) and 2.0 (French, Spanish) audio, An Introduction by Steven Spielberg & George Lucas, 2 featurettes (The Women: The American Film Institute Tribute and Friends and Enemies), a storyboard sequence for The Opening Sequence, 4 image galleries (Illustrations & Props, Production Photographs & Portraits, Effects/ILM and Marketing) and the game trailer and demo for LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.

That AFI thing was pretty cool (I was fortunate enough to attend the event back in 2003 - you can read my coverage and see a picture here). It featured a reunion and discussion with Karen Allen, Kate Capshaw and Alison Doody, and Harrison Ford himself showed up at the end IN COSTUME as Indy. This was done to promote the original box set DVD release of the films. It should be very cool to see again on disc.

Is Beowulf 1:1.85? or is it 1:2.40? Pixar has spoiled us with 1.78 CG..

The movie has a 2.35:1 ratio.

Forgot that one (Shrek 3). Then again I never seen a Shrek movie in my life (will probably get it if a Shrek Coll. hits BD or something).

One friend of mine is a hardcore NIN fan and he'll pre-order the BD bundle, so he'll probably bring it at my place (since his current setup doesn't accept lossless sound) and test it here. I'll see if it's worth it or not.

I (and I thought anybody with realistic expectations) was not expecting even a hit at Indy on blu until the new movies is poised for release on blu in the fall.

Seriously though, what the fuck @ no blu-ray what a waste.

Who cares? Seriously?
Dot. He's posting in the high def thread wondering who cares? Give me a break mana.

Exactly, I've watched these movies countless times.
The next time I see them, I want it in HD.

I'll be waiting Paramount.
I'll be waiting.

People who aren't Lucas/Spielberg/Star Wars/Indy zealots like yourself, maybe? You may be proud to have thrown your money at Lucasfilm and purchased every reissue of Star Wars and Indy ever released, but some of us just want a damn HD release. Shit, the trilogy was re-released just 4 years ago on DVD, in a fine set. There is no need to release them again, save for on BD, and that sure as shit isnt the case here. Its yet another case of Lucas playing his fans for the fools they are, knowing they will eat this shit up and still buy the inevitable BD releases a year from now.

Actually Indy is great but i would not Taint my HD collection with any of the Lucas Directed crap like Star Wars.

I just watched The Assassination of Jesse James by overly long titles on bluray.

Kind of a disappointing transfer. Crushed blacks and edge enhancement all over. I never saw it in the theater so I don't know if thats just how it is, but I was fucking with my brightness/contrast the whole time with no luck to try and see some detail in the suits and black hats. The costumes where great when you got a good look at them.

Casey Afleck was also great, any other year without no country for old men and I feel he would of won best supporting actor.

Score was awesome but I did not like the narrator. Sounded like the narrator in The Royal Tenenbaums and it just felt strange.

Worth a rental but I wouldn't buy it except I already did but it was free so woohoo! :D

anyone want to buy a copy of The Assassination of Jesse James by overly long titles on bluray?

My order from Deep Discount is finally arriving tomorrow but I was charged $28 by fucking customs. I don't know if I'm going to order from them anymore when Amazon.com is faster, price is same, but shipping is more although I usually don't get raped by customs with Amazon.

I saved a lot because of the Blade Runner box, but that customs charge hurts. And it has been 13 fucking business days.

Where do you live? And did you choose the standard shipping option for Canada (5.95)? I never ever been charged for customs from them.

I live near Toronto. For some reason, in the e-mail for my order, it said 10-20 business day shipping and I was charged 5.95.

Custom thing may be random, not sure. Also the Blade Runner box is kinda big.

anyone know if there are big differences between the sub and dub for the first movie as well as this?

Anyone know if Cowboy Bebop will ever come out on BD? Would the source material itself benefit from HD?

The only reason I ask is because it would be fucking amazing.
Due to the time it was made, the masters would likely be standard def DigiBetas, and it was also done in the 4:3 aspect ratio. I'd recommend that you go ahead and get the new Remix set that came out, because I think this show would probably benefit from a BD version about as much as 28 Days Later did (which isn't much).

This is; unless they decided to go back to the original elements and create brand new HD masters which would be an expensive undertaking. Still, the animation wasn't drawn with HD in mind and it'd still be pillarboxed.

The movie however would definitely benefit from a BD release.

Screw the video; Cowboy Bebop on Blu-Ray would be orgasmic with a 24bit, 48Khz PCM sound mix.

Mmmmm... Yoko Kano.

30 Days of Night is pretty good. I haven't seen it on Blu-ray, but I thought it was a very visually pleasing movie, so it should look great in HD unless they mess up the transfer. I wouldn't really call it scary though, and I don't think it's all that re-watchable.

The Orphanage comes out on April 22. I haven't seen that myself, but it sounds like a really good movie and I'm planning on a blind buy on Blu-ray. It looks like it'll be scary (or at least really creepy), maybe you should check that out too?

Bingo. This is ridiculous milking.

Saw Eastern Promises last night. The film looked great, even for such a dark, grimy movie. Can't say I liked it too much, probably because the score fell flat imo, but it was interesting with some good acting.
