Amazon has universal titles going from 16.95 and down to 11.95.

Was just about to post the same thing.

Bourne Trilogy - $29.99
Elizabeth: The Golden Age - $16.95
Eastern Promises - $16.95
The Kingdom - $16.95
American Gangster - $16.95
The Pianist - $11.95

Just bought Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age for $26 total...I couldnt pass them up with 10% off and prime shipping.

Anyone own Tremors? I'm tempted to pick it up since it would only cost me like $10,but I recall hearing some bad things about the transfer.

Taken from Pitchfork this morning:

It looks like North Americans are in for another summer of Daft Punk. The beloved French-humans-posing-as-robots will bring their robots-on-a-quest-to-become-human film Electroma to DVD on July 22 via Vice Records. The silent, experimental feature directed by Daft Punk themselves will be available on both DVD and the shiny new Blu-Ray format. The package is a metal case with imprinted cover images, and a 40-page book of stills from the movie.

Finally ordered Eastern Promises and The Pianist. Feel really stupid for not ordering American Gangster from Amazon, or saving my reciept from where I bought it at least. Could have saved me $13...

Anyway I got my copy of The Brave One on HD-DVD today, and to my surprise it looked like this...

HD-DVD.jpg

The HD-DVD logo is there, it jsut seems liek they didn't add that layer of white paint to it, so it's invisible... I wonder why, hopefully my copy of I Am Legend and Michael Clayton won't have the same problem. Wouldn't be surprised if the asses started shipping them in blue cases though...

ughh the universal hd dvd prices went back up $3 on amazon :\

I wish I had the heart to keep buying HD DVD's, but I don't. :(

It's just that the total lack of players and support just a year from now (which seemed unfathomable just a few months ago) is startling. I'm not the most patient guy, but I definitely want to hold off on HD DVD movies for now. I still have plenty of content in the meantime from BB Online and the ones I own plus the ones my friend owns.

Anyone else picking up ID4 next week? Any reviews yet? Wondering if its good enough to pick up on its own or try and wait for a sale and pick it up with 30 days too.

I agree Van, I was contemplating the whole thing for a couple of weeks myself. The fact that Toshiba is totally abandoning their base is pretty crappy, I can't believe there won't be a dual format player from them (or it isn't likely.) If I couldn't rip my HD movies to a hard drive, I definitely wouldn't continue buying. As it is, I think by ripping the movies and picking up another player I'll be ok, but it's a crap situation either way.

I don't blame anyone for NOT getting in on any firesales. The lack of support will be startling and abrupt.

I'm not worried about it. I have faith in my A20 lasting me many years, but if it happens to die then I always have the 360 add-on and an A3 to fall back on. Combine that with the fact that I can also use the 360 add on with a PC, eventually when BR burners and disc get cheaper I can just add one to my PC and burn all of my HD-DVDs to BR. :)

Keep the low prices coming, I can see my HD-DVD collection nearing 100 in the near future.

so here i was looking to get some blu ray movies from amazon, and noticed the jump in prices. Wtf i was going to get Crimson Tide 14.95 now its 20.95 and Planet Earth was 55$ now its 66$. Fucking discusting, Toshiba plz come back we need lower prices.

Yea! I want those two movies to drop in price again! Continue the war so I can have my Crimson Tide!!!

You do realize that Amazon frequently runs discounts / specials on movies, and it's very likely that the change in price was the end of a deal?

srsly?

I actually see my HD-DVD collection going well beyond 100 when all things are considered. I went from 15 before the Warner announcement to 35 at present, and still have quite a few movies I'd love to have in my collection (i.e., Lost in Translation; The Big Lebowski; Being John Malkovich; Elizabeth; 2001; etc.) Those are great movies that are sure to get multiple viewings and if they're available for around $10, they're gonna be mine.

I picked up PayBack the director's cut this weekend, and it's a completely different movie altogether when compared to the theatrical release. I'm not sure I like it more, but I think it is much much darker. The original is dark, but this one is sometimes shockingly dry in its humor.

Like you, don't really foresee the players dying anytime soon, but still bought another A3 just to have in the bed room, and as a back-up to my A2, which is in the living room.

I'm watching a little Cowboy Bebop I just opened from my online order (the complete collection thing) and it could use a touch up. It's pretty much the only anime from a while ago that I would like to see get some TLC and be put in hi-def. Maybe it's just my monitor making it look old and dated.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the transfer, save for some very slight edge enhancement. It's unquestionably the best the movie has ever looked and likely ever will.

I thought since the last day of the embargo was today, that announcements would be tomorrow.
Well to be technical, all of the big announcements through out this whole thing came on fridays but that being said I think it will still be a little while

Good to hear,I'll pick it up if it goes back down $3...

Not sure why amazon upped the price.

So nothing happened with the March 4th Paramount embargo? Lame.

Well Bill Hunt confirms that Paramount are indeed working on Blu-ray titles *shock*

I got so many HD DVD movies from firesales lately it's unbelievable. Got Things we Lost in the Fire 26.99 CAD minus a $25 Best Buy coupon, Blade Runner, Sunrise Earth, Superman II, Polar Express....I'm at around 90 HD movies, now I'm still searching for The Pianist, 2001 A Space Odyssey and a couples of more for cheap.

Damn you, for a sec I thought you had the series on hi-def disc and was about to fire up Amazon to search and buy.

Hey guys, which stores are likely to have a good HD-DVD selection still? I kinda want to get Lost in Translation but I'm only in town/in possession of an HD-DVD player for two days so I can't really order it online.

Best Buy? At least the one by me still has some for now.

Tartan UK announces Blu-Ray editions of:

A Tale of Two Sisters (April 14)
Paranoid Park (April 28)
Park Chan-wook's Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and I’m A Cyborg, But That’s OK (May 26)

Link

Saw Mr. Woodcock last night. The PQ was good though kinda "plain", which I suspect was intentional. The movie and sound disappointed. I think the movie had potential, and the scenes of the kid in gym class when he was younger were very funny, but the adult stuff lacked the same sharp humor.

oceans eleven bluray - has white dots popping up in dark scenes. hi-res but Not a good transfer.
oceans twelve bluray - lots of grain
Closer bluray - fantastic image. Bitrate all the way above 30mbps in most of the movie.
full metal jacket bluray - pretty good, but the darks aren't pure. Compression effect (green look)
clockwork orange bluray - like the above

What are some good multi-channel SACDs? Just picked up Kind of Blue and looking for other good stuff (heard War of the Worlds is good) regardless of genre.

Arg. Have they picked that up for a North American release too? I must see it.

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a must have (Even though it isn't the engineer's original Quad mix)

There Will Be Blood HD-DVD has reappeared on Paramount's site. :D

I still don't have a clue about SACD's, despite my valiant efforts. No wonder the format is niche, among other reasons. What the hell do I need to enjoy the SACD's? I have the Ps3, so that's a start. But what the hell do I have to do to listen to them in their proper form? I don't want to be like those idiots who buy HD movies and play them back on SD tvs.

I have my Ps3 hooked up via optical to my receiver, but I think I read that if you're not using HDMI, you're somehow limited with the Ps3's SACD playback. It's all so confusing. :(

Loved Tale of Two Sisters, would absolutely re-purchase. From the linked thread, sounds like Tartan UK doesn't do Blu-ray region encoding, so if it isn't announced for US release, will pick up the UK version.

They also got to talking about Battle Royale in that thread... man I hope that comes as well.

Traditionally, you'd need a player with six channel analog output.

With the PS3, you'd need HDMI and an HDMI 1.2+ receiver (proper speakers help too :) )

I enjoy SACDs, but prefer hi-rez 2 channel playback versus 5.1.
