I owned a PS3 for almsot an entire year before I got my first HD-DVD player. Do you have a list of what you have for trade?

Well, I'm in your same situation, where the movies I'd trade are ones I got for free: Stir of Echoes, Flight of the Phoenix, or Full Metal Jacket (the good version). If anyone else has movies they'd like to trade for these, let me know.

Ok, I actually liked I Am Legend. Neither ending was perfect, and some parts were completely missing (St. Patrick's Cathedral and street sequence with Robert, Anna and Ethan) that were in the making of featurettes, but it was fun and visually interesting. Being from and working in NYC, my wife and I have a certain appreciation for what they did with the setting, which was amazing. She is scared shitless of anything even remotely resembling a scary movie but she stuck it out. The CG ([spoilers]dark seekers[/spoiler]) was unexpectedly bad though. A great looking tranfer as expected... NYC always looks great in high def :)

Lots of silly holes in the plot and weird decisions, but I wasn't expecting a very deep experience in any way. Worth being netflixed.

Is King of California good? It looks kind of interesting, and for $10 it's very tempting.
I rented it in standard-def, so I can't comment on the HD transfer, but the movie was unexpectedly fun. Considering a rental cost me about $6, I'd say you really can't go wrong for $10. It's too bad they don't have it up for grabs at amazon.ca or I'd snag a copy.

Someone on Blu-ray.com said they've been told the UK release is July 7th and I just checked Play.com (who are great at revealing release dates early :D) and they have it's listing up.

There Will Be Blood

It also has the crappy extras listed from Special Edition DVD. Hopefully it's not just a place holder.

I want this film damnit.

Ugh, that kinda sounds like a bunch of junk they included, not speaking of the movie. I'll take the stand-alone, thanks.

Same. It really sounds like they filled it with a bunch of crap.

stand-alone defense force... ASSEMBLE!

This is bound to be a silly question as I'm apparently full of them. :D

How much better if at all can we expect BR movies to look? For example when it comes to reviews movies are given a rating for video quality and many (but not all) movies score 5/5. Is it possible that these movies could look even better and what is a 5/5 movie today will be different to what a 5/5 movie will be 2 years from now?

Pretty much.

They couldn't have bothered to make a 2nd disc of video extras? It's been a year+

9/10 times Ill take the standalone (with this version of BB definately being part of that 90%, as I dont worship the film as much as your average Gaffer). The older I get, the less value I see in "special" or "limited" editions/boxsets of movies/games. I just end up paying extra for a bunch of crap I never look at a second time. Vanilla version FTW.

I'll get the stand alone version of BB unless Amazon has the CE for like $8 more or something. Only thing I'd want is the free movie cash and maybe the cool looking case.

Blu-ray Sales Rising
In its first five days in the stores, the Blu-ray version of Fox's Hitman accounted for 12.6 percent of total sales; for No Country for Old Men, it was 9.8 percent, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert and reported by Home Media Magazine. Prior to the demise of the HD DVD format, the number of high-definition disk sales rarely topped 2-3 percent of total sales, the trade publication observed. (An exception: sales of the HD DVD-only release of Transformers hit 4 percent.)

Blu-ray Sales Pass 9-Million Mark
Sales of Blu-ray titles passed the 9-million mark during the week ending March 16, HMR Research said Thursday. The San Francisco-based research firm said that from the high-definition format's launch in mid-2006 to the first of the year, Blu-ray sales totaled 6 million units but added 3 million more during the first 11 weeks of this year alone. Recent sales have been propelled by strong demand for Oscar-winning movie No Country for Old Men, which sold 68,000 copies in its first week, making it the top seller of the year in its initial week. Sales were also boosted by the official demise in February of the competing HD DVD format.

And it is OFFICIAL. As long as Sony doesn't fuck it up and prices drop Blu-Ray will succeed.

Where'd you get the cases? I sort of want to do that to mine.

I just switched them with other movies to take that pic, I'm not seriously trying to replace any of my HD-DVD cases with BR cases, that would be stupid...
