Got Juno early. As the review upthread mentioned, there's a noticeable bit of grain in the transfer. Bonus materials are good but I'm pretty sure they're all on the DVD version as well. Don't buy this expecting it to be good Blu demo material.

Oh, and try not to get too excited over the "Digital Copy Special Edition" stuff at the top - the digital copy is on a separate DVD-ROM in the case. (And since the disc isn't technically released yet, I can't redeem the code. Blah.)

I know. I've had my PS3 since November and the only Blu-Rays I have are the ones I got for free(Spidey 3, The Prestige, Full Metal Jacket, Stir of Echoes, The Patriot, Harts War) and Incubus Alive at Red Rock.

How long did it take to get these? I sent mine in mid feb and still have received nothing.

I sent off for mine in early December and they got here in late February or early March. So right about 3 months.
 
watched the matrix last night - rented from itunes in HD. Looked pretty nice on my projector, but I was very disappointed to find it was in stereo :/ prologicIIx is nice but not the same as a proper surround track.

Reviews here, here and here. All seem positive about the AV quality, albeit with the usual 'older movie' caveats.

Just for future reference, bookmark this site. I dug up all three of those reviews just by searching for the movie on there.
 
I've finally got all 3 four disc sets for the Lord of the Rings. Looks so epic on my shelf, puts all the other movies to shame. The inevitable Blu Ray release is going to crush my spirits.
 
Thanks, NekoFever. Surprised they put it on a BD50 but seems like nice treatment for 20th anniversary. Video quality sounds to be about what I expected.

Nice. I think its time to trade in some of my free BRDs I never really wanted at Moviestop and pick me up some Munchausen. And Unbreakable if I have enough.
 
ok BRD fans, I need your help.

I got my Sammy BD-UP5000 dual format player and then ran into money trouble and havent bought a BRD

I ran into some financial troubles due to exploding dishwashers destroying hardwood floors. Insurance check finally came in and paid for everything so Im looking to get some movies.

Here are the movies Im thinking about getting, any input into PQ?

No Country for Old Men - definite buy, no input needed.
3:10 to Yuma - liked the movie in theaters, is it good on repeate viewings?
man on Fire - awesome movie, does it look good?
Ratatouillie - probably a sure thing to get. sure it looks great.
Hellboy - like the movie, hows the transfer?
Big Fish - hows the xfer?

Ratatouillie - amazing, seems like disney can do no wrong with their transfers
Hellboy - also pretty good PQ. Casino Royale ish quality I would say.

How is that handling your HD-DVD's, by the way? Aren't there some compatibility issues on some movies? I just saw that at Best Buy for a decent price, and since I just got my $100 GC from them, I was thinking about picking it up.

All of them are worthy purchases if you like the movies.

I'd like to hear how it handles HD DVDs as well.

disc compatibility is decent, all of my movies I have tried to watch have played just fine. There was a firmware update about a month ago that fixed 95% of the compatibility issues. There are a handfull of "problem" discs that are still around. Sunshine on BRD wont play on older machines, but works on newer ones (I would assume mine can play it, I may rent it to try it out). Beowulf takes forever to load and a few more BR discs have issues with the menu.. the movies play fine, but the menus are hard to navigate (Spiderman, Cars, Lost). Other than that, disc compatibility seems to be pretty well perfect.

The real problem is right now the player doesnt handle TrueHD or DTS HD very well at all (2 channel for TrueHD core only for DTS HD). There is another firmware coming in May that is going to fix these audio codec issues and most of the other disc issues.

The other issue is sound dropping out on SD DVD's.. little half second hicups every now and then.

There is a company called Broadcom that made the internal chipsets for both the LG BH200 and the Sammy Up5000, basically other than the Sammy having a better upscaling chip and analog audio outs, they are the same machine. There is a leaked firmware update for the LG player that fixed pretty much everything (7.1 True HD, DTS HD MA, fixed sound issues on SD DVDs) but introduced a few new weird issues (thus the reason its not released yet).

The expectation is come May both of these players will be top class HDDVD and BRD players. Right now its a little spotty on audio support.

That said, having one player play everything is a great benefit. Trying to explain what movie goes into which player would get really annoying.

Hey. When I bought my PS3, it was at the time when they offered 5 free blu ray movies. I mailed it in around mid-January. When should I receive those babies????

The gift set box looks awesome, but the movie ticket is no use to me :lol

So I might pick up the regular edition :( Save some money for the expensive Dirty Harry set.

EDIT: The DVD version has 2 minutes of The Dark Knight, whereas the Blu-ray version has 6 minutes! Nice little Blu-ray exclusive.

But isn't that what was shown in the IMAX footage anyway?
 
Blu-ray box set is bought,movie ticket is worth it for me.Plus I'm sure I'll still have 10% off on amazon whenever they put it up for pre-order.
 
Yea the prices on amazon should be lower.

I expect like V for Vendetta,Batman Begins will cost 19.95 on amazon.

What was it, 720p? Also, how much was it and what were the restrictions, if any?

What theaters actually accept those tickets though? Every theater I've ever seen doesn't accept those free tickets or ticket discounts.

Well it says the first 6 minutes. If the IMAX footage IS the first 6 minutes and the movie starts that "badass"ed way then my mind is already blown!

yeah, 720p. Looked really nice, but then my projector is 720p anyway. I'm not convinced of the actual need for 1080p, but I want it anyway for archival quality and futureproofing.

I think its 30 days to start watching, then 24 hours to watch as much as you like.

rented for $4.99 I think. It downloads direct to the appleTV and is stuck there - can't transfer to the PC.

as I mentioned, only stereo sound, but it still sounded good in prologicIIx on my denon receiver. You can't seem to see whether a movie has 5.1 before renting it.

It's not like that took two attempts, right?

And I seem to remember even Bill Hunt saying that Sony should have been embarrassed to launch Blu-ray with the first version of that looking like it did. Upscaled DVD was the comparison.

Yeah, 720p looks great, but I personally think 1080p provides a much better picture. It's just not a huge leap (like 480p to 720p) imo. Those Apple TV restrictions and pricing are the same as the XBLM stuff, except it's 14 days instead of 30 there. Also, you can tell if the soundtrack is DD 5.1 on XBLM from the description. I hope that the competition drives the prices down, increases selection, and loosens the restrictions a bit. Or a subscription model, that would be awesome.
