Thank God for Fry's . . . I've bought 5 Stanley Kubrick Movies in HD (HD-DVD) for $9.99 each. :D

I need to swing by my local Frys and see what they have. Im a little disapointed HDDVD's never hit true firesale prices.

I think I'm caving in to buy a PS3 today. Any suggestions for my 1st Bluray movie along with it?
That depends on you genre of choice:
Sci-Fi: Blade Runner (runner-up: Fifth Element)
Action: Casino Royale (runner-up: Crank)
Brain-Dead Action: 300 (runner-up: Shoot 'Em up)
Animated: Ratatouille (runner-up: Cars)

Planet Earth seems to be reference material for many Blu-ray owners. Even if you're not interested much in a nature series, you must see it.

Is anyone getting 'Assembly'? I just saw it and it's a pretty damn strong movie even though the subject manner and protagonist at first glance seem like they won't inspire any westerners. It's basically about this CCP (Chinese commie) captain and war hero who lost his company of soldiers in the Chinese civil war and his struggles after the events.

I just ordered it from Play.com. Trailer looks good and I hope I will enjoy this movie as much as I did enjoy Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War.

We have planet earth on DVD, but we still haven't opened it up yet. Maybe I'll see if I can go exchange it for the blu-ray. Blade Runner sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the input.

I agree with these selections (except for Sci-fi, I haven't seen either). Be advised Planet Earth on BluRay lacks the special features of the DVD. It is awesome to watch (I rented), but I am holding off on buying until they release one with special features (If they ever do).

And I am jealous, Xater. Let us know how BB is. I'm worried about black crush with how dark most scenes are. I expect a full review.

Super LTTP but I picked up 2001 last night. Holy. Crap. It looks absolutely stunning. I'm still simply floored at the conversion job they did. Those sky scenes during Dawn of Man are fapolicious.

Well just watched Gotham Knight. I am quite pleased with it. It's definatley as good as Animatrix which I also enjoyed. Warner should do such projects more often maybe for some other superheroes. It's the next best thing to a movie by Bruce Timm. Picture quality is nice but it's animated so I expected that.

I don't want to spoil anything and I don't know how much people know about it ( I knew nothing before I saw it) so here is all I say:

- it fits nicely between Begins and Dark Knight
- some nice character development
- introduces 2 new villains into the Batman movieverse and 1 returns

the Gotham knight has some great parts, and 1 short isnt so great. introduces 2 new allies as well. Major Crime squad detectives ( reminded me of the wire). it had some really awesome disposition on batman and his training and fighting. i saw it in a really shitty quality first ill be picking up the blu of begins and knight soon.

can anyone vouch for I robot being visually amazing on blu. its a decent movie but i would watch it just to be wowed and be even more wowed when i get a plasma (current olevia 32").

I just want to add something for Gotham Knight. I am really enjoying the bonus material. There is great one where all those DC guys talk about the Batman villains and Batman himself and do a great analysis of them. There is also a long Bob Kane history and of course 4 Batman TAS episodes. One of them is "Heart of Ice" which is definately in my top 5 of the best episodes.

The only disappointment is that all the bonus stuff is in SD. :(

It looked jaw-dropping. The sound was also incredible. It's definitely a reference disc imo.

Anyone else pick up Mad Men season one today?

I did,but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Finally caved in and bought a PS3 last night. 1st movie purchases were Pan's Labrynth and Blade Runner (2 for $30 at best buy!). I'm hella pumped. Spider-man 3 came with the system too.

That's exactly what I did for my first two Blu-rays.

That was less than a month ago, just got my PS3 on 6/11/2008.

I now have around 45-50! :lol

I'm so jealous!

I have three, and one of them is "broken" :(

For anyone who's curious, Stargate is pretty messed up. The subtitles never get activated for when Ra and all of the others speak.

You need to manually turn it on.

Lionsgate has replacement discs, but it's a bitch to get a hold of them, let alone get a replacement disc.

Warner announced Robin Hood (the errol flynn one) for bluray. Looking forward to it - bought it on HDDVD when I had the Xbox drive but never got round to watching it, then sold all my HDDVDs.

Guess my impressions of Batman Begins ar eno longer needed because the HDD review is out:

Just quick from my side: It's one of Warner's best efforts but it doesn't look as good as the NCFOM or Crank.

Good to see PIP via Profile 1.1 and the bonus IMAX Prologue for The Dark Knight:

# The Dark Knight IMAX Prologue -- Originally produced for IMAX theaters, this is the entire opening sequence of the movie. Presented here in full HD, what a very smart marketing move by Warner this is.

I won't double dip after the HD DVD release, but this is very cool.

Awesome, it's on my HD On Demand too. Thanks for the heads up.

HD Showcase On Demand. That's what it is. I knew In Demand HD didn't sound right. I caught the first two episodes on Tuesday. I may watch a few episodes tonight and some tomorrow morning but I doubt I'll be able to finish it so I'm hoping it's still up beyond this weekend since I won't be home. I don't know when they usually switch the programming and I'm still mad I missed the time Tutors was on. Saw it listed, didn't have time to watch it, a few days later checked back and it was gone :(.

Wooo going to amazon to preorder Batman Begins, i find out the Bankjob comes out the week after.

says it's active until 8/10

I'm getting the Toshiba HD-EP 30 Player + 4 HD-DVDs for 90 bucks tomorrow (Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Identity, Tokyo Drift and Chronicles of Riddick).

Anyone can tell me where to get HD-DVDs for cheap now that the format is sort of dead? Shops that ship overseas to Europe or European shops would be most welcome. Also, what are the must have HD-DVD releases that really showcase the format's capabilities?

Sweet. Gives me plenty of time. According to the TW website, they're going to have episodes of the new season up the day after they originally air. I hate watching live action shows in HD so I'll probably keep watching it that way.

Where are you getting the player? Or is it a second-hand one?

I can't help you with the shipping stuff, but the top HD DVD's are:

-Transformers
-Hot Fuzz
-Batman Begins
-King Kong
-300
-Shrek 3
-Children of Men

There are others, but those are the best that I saw, not just for PQ/AQ, but the interactive features as well.
