Good news fellow Hd-dvd fans after Blu-rays absolutely mind boggling low sales this year and failing to overtake dvd this year they are bringing back HD-dvd. I feel like subprime loans are going to crush some banks the same is going to happen with blu-ray and Sony. They failing to lower prices for the forseeable future cannot beat the future market- China. The Dragon has awoken and the chinese will decide the next step of this war and the fans will have what they need.

Notice at the stores the cheap Hd-dvd disks just dont ever stop....This is the future..the paradise.

(I am off to Vegas- so see you all later)

No where in that article is HD DVD mentioned beyond simple speculation.

Never change, Nico!

Look a little closer.
you mean in the hot-linked image that says "image available exclusively from www.dvdactive.com"? went to the website, image still said that. ctrl-f5 fixed the problem and now I see what you mean. nice.

I wish they would just choose a cover for the third movie. That thing is so stupid looking.

still couldn't see it, but I did after clearing the cache.

For those of you who can't see it, great fucking news!

Hopefully the transfer is good (i.e. much better than Gotham Knight).

Oh man I only bought the giant collection a year ago :(.
I will just pick up my favourite ones I guess. From Russia with Love is there but no On Her Majesty's Secret Service?

Alot of them really arent worth buying a second time.
I don't even know which ones I like and dislike anymore, except for everything since Goldeneye I think.

Oh man, Animatrix in HD?

I hope they sell that on it's own. I can't stand the movies, but love the Animatrix, so there's no way I'm going to buy the entire set just for that.

I'd buy the set for that alone, you can toss (sell) the rest. I do really like the first movie (somewhere in my personal top 15 or so) and I enjoy the second movie on subsequent viewings, but the third one sucks pretty hard.

I watched The Sand Pebbles last night after reading the HDD review a week or so ago. I think Steve McQueen is a very over rated actor. This is the 3rd movie of his I've seen of BR and I have yet to be impressed by any.

Anyway it looks pretty decent for an old movie, but you can still tell it's old, as it has a hard time comparing to more recent movies. The audio was very clean, but it didn't really give my speakers a work out or anything, even during the fighting scenes. Anyway if you're a SM fan I'm sure you'll like it, but I've yet to see a movie with him that I think is great (I own Bullitt and The Getaway, what are some of his best movies?).

Anyway I rented Doomsday and Harold and Kumar 2 today (never seen the first one, I will rent it later). I regret renting so many meh movies earlier this week because we also got the new Starship Troopers in too, but I had reached my limit... Anyway I think I am about to go watch Doomsday right now. This would have been a good movie to send HD-DVD out with... :(

For the interested, a good article on what was going on behind the scenes during the Blu-ray/HD-DVD format war, and more generally at Sony since Stringer's been in charge.

http://www.forbes.com/technology/forbes/2008/0811/096.html

In Tokyo the night the Paramount news broke, Stringer set up a global conference call to brainstorm ideas for stopping Toshiba. He called on every division to play a part, seizing on the crisis to force the company to work together. A company changes its entrenched habits only when it is under stress. So says Gerstner, in Chapter Seven.

One suggestion was quickly implemented. Sony had wanted gamers to use PlayStation as a videodisc player more often. So if they found a Hollywood movie in the box when they bought the machine, they'd likely test-drive the film, not just play the car-racing games. "Howard rang me up and told me, 'I really need you to pack half a million units of Spider-Man with PlayStation 3,'" says Michael Lynton, chief executive of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

McQueen wasn't, in my opinion, a great actor as much as he was a great screen presence; I really enjoy the two films you mention here, although not specifically because of him. His best role was Junior Bonner, along with Baby the Rain Must Fall and Papillon.

Generally speaking, the Great Escape seems like an obvious next candidate for a high-def release.

I have a question about digital copies. Has anyone used this feature on a blu ray disc yet? Do you need a Blu-ray PC disc drive to use it or does it work on a PS3? It would be awesome if Sony had some forethought and made it so you can just transfer the digital copy from the BD disc in a PS3 to your PSP.

If you have a Columbia House account, they're running a B1G1 on all Blu-ray titles (including preorders) and it stacks with any available free shipping codes. As I know they have their fans here, the pairing of Pushing Daisies and Sarah Connor Chronicles for $30 total would be especially noteworthy.

I can't find anything I want, though...

I am no rebuying the Matrix box set just for the animatrix... I hope.

Please release it seperate.

Ugg, why couldnt they do this for the HDDVD release last year?

It isn't on the blu-ray disc... you either have to download it (with the Itunes or WMP code) or sometimes it is packed with a dvd with the video on it (ex. Hitman.)

The seperate matrix releases haven't been re-released on their own in YEARS. I don't think WB will ever do it, they want to force people to buy 2 and 3.

I think he means why was the hd-dvd version of Animatrix in SD :(

Yeah, that sucked. I bought the trilogy set and got a code for Animatrix SD download on XBL, but it looks like crap and I already have the Animatrix dvd. If the reviews for the BD Animatrix are good (i.e. MUCH better than the dvd I have), I'll sell the HD DVD trilogy plus the Animatrix DvD and get the BD boxset.

Why the fuck aren't they selling this in the UK?

I hope the set is region free :(

they aren't selling it anywhere yet. They usually announce US dates first. I'd expect it to come out in the UK around the same time, maybe a little later. Certainly before Christmas. And it'll be massively more expensive.

They announced the 3 disc edition. That's all. Saying that the ultimate set never came out on HD-DVD here either.
