Late '09? C'mon, can't possibly be that late, especially if they've already mentioned it!

I'd pin it sometime in the summer of '09. What would be awesome is if we got a sneak peek at Comic-Con.

Oh god, so much awesome.

When will we see stuff like Jurassic Park, Titanic, and Back to the Future on blu :/

Its pretty clear Universal were preparing releases of their Amblin/Spielberg movies for HDDVD. They "announced" them two or three times and then had to appologize to Spielberg for doing so.

I think they probably have the masters ready to go for those and are just waiting for the right time.

I'm hoping a good deal of stuff gets announced for this Xmas season.

Paramount was also talking about Indiana Jones for this year as well, so maybe we will get the only three Indiana Jones ever made this Christmas to coincide with a movie that doesnt exist being released on home video.

Even for something as undeniably wretched as Heroes S2? You'd be better off taking $60 and flushing it down your toilet.

Got Cloverfield on bluray last week, saw it last night. It's fucking awesome, amazing picture quality as well....prolly the best I've seen thus far, love when the aspect ratio is the whole damn screen...I mean that's why we pay the monies for the hdtv's amirite?

---Cant wait for The Godfather and The Matrix and Transformers

aspect ratios are the intent of the film maker, not the result of the television or the media delivered on. You're going to get different ones depending on the movie as well. For example, why would a comedy be filmed in 2.35:1? And why would Lord of the Rings be filmed in just 1.77:1?

PQ: 5 STARS

fuck yes. can't wait to get my copy.

So yeah, I watched it a couple of days ago, didn't meet my expectations, not in A/V quality, but the movie itself. Just seemed like yet another lame Resident Evil movie, except the virus doesn't turn people to zombies, yet you still have crazy ass peopel eating other people... The case scene at the end is awful, since when could you trick out an ice cream truck enough to keep up with a brand new Bently? I think the previews combined with the fact that I had just seen Planet Terror was the only thing that had me interested in this movie, but it's nowhere near as good as that Grindhouse movie, just a weak knock off.

still couldn't see it, but I did after clearing the cache.

For those of you who can't see it, great fucking news!

Hopefully the transfer is good (i.e. much better than Gotham Knight).

Ultimate yes!

Kill Bill on blu-ray?? oh happy day!!!

Save up some money and stop buying crap just because it's in HD. Jeez.

How is Iron Man crap?
One of the best movies of the summer...
One of the biggest money makers of the summer (until Dark Knight hit)
An all around quality experience with a great performance by Robert Downey Jr.

Seriously, either you're joyless or just lack taste

Oh, not this shit AGAIN? Do we need yet ANOTHER Class in aspect ratio and why it's important to maintain the director's intent?

Bender's Game on BD !
At the Comic Con Futurama panel, Fox showed some new footage for the forthcoming feature-length DVD, Bender’s Game. The trailer included riffs on high “dark matter” (i.e. gas) prices (with “Mom” playing the role of the evil oil companies), and some Futurama characters playing Dungeons and Dragons, then being transported to a Dungeons and Dragons-like world. There’s also a clear parody of The Lord of the Rings films.

The movie will be released on Blu-Ray (a first in Futurama history!) and DVD on November 4th, 2008. This post will be updated later with the some art for the movie, but in the meantime, mark your calendars for this series’ next great installment!

Oh man, Bender's Game in Blu-ray means I should prepare my wallet to rebuy the other movies (and possibly the tv show) if they get re-released in Blu-ray too.

No reason for the show. It wasn't animated in HD.

My Blu-Ray list for 2008 ( i live in Germany and we get most of the Blu-Rays later than the USA)

August: There Will Be Blood, Jumper, Mr & Mrs Smith, Zodiac, Batman Begins

September: 21 , Jerry Maguire, Love Vegas

October: Iron Man , Cloverfield , Reservoir Dogs , Leon - The Professional, Ghostbusters 1 + 2 , The Godfather Trilogy

November: The incredible Hulk, Kill Bill Volume 1 + 2

And some other movies that don't have a release date yet, e.g. Fight Club

I will probably cave in for Kill Bill (if codefree) but I really want the whole bloody affair :(

Seriously. I've about given up hope for this. Oh well, seeing the entire film in color isn't that big of a deal for me.

They better release the other Futurama films as well otherwise what's the point?

Agreed. Its rather strange to release the first 2 on DVD, and then suddenly start releasing on blu-ray...

Having said that, I honestly don't see how these films could really benefit much more from the higher resolution of blu-ray. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE supporter of HD content and the format in general, but frankly the first two Futurama movies look amazing unconverted on DVD played through my PS3...

How can you make these cartoons look better? Granted I have never watched a cartoon on Blu or HD-DVD before, but I have seen the HD feeds of cartoons on Fox and TBS. Not "true" HD, I know, but still very nice nonetheless. Right on par, if not slightly below, with the Futurama movie DVDs.

Watched harold and Kumaar 2 a couple of days ago... it kept making this weird popping noise through out the movie,w hichw as pretty annoying. Gotta love the bottomless parties though!

If you've seen what the Simpsons movie looked like on BD, you'll know :-D
It was like watching a series of uncompressed BMP images, that's how good it looked.

I got in Mutiny on the Bounty HD-DVD. It's a great film, and its just the one disc, unlike the two disc DVD.

It's worth the $20 if you still have a player for it.

Im not sure if it will be on Blu-Ray anytime soon.

One of the best unraveling social dynamic that I have seen on film before.

Just saw on HighDefDigest that Sony's bringing out a 'Ray Harryhausen' 3-pack sometime in October. The movies are 'Earth vs. The flying saucers', 'It came from beneath the sea' and '20 million miles to Earth'.

Good news although 20 million miles is already on Bluray.

Im glad they are bringing old sci-fi films to high def, i really enjoy them

Anyone know for sure if BttF will be released alone or do we have to buy the complete set? This would be far worse than the Matrix situation since I actually like 3/4 things in the Matrix set.

Also at the person buying Jumper, please don't.

Beowulf on Blu-ray tomorrow, eh? Will probably be picking this up for my girlfriend. She loved the movie and I'm sure it'll look absolutely spectacular in HD.

My HD purchases have kind of fallen off the map lately, so I'm looking forward to checking out some new 1080p goodness.

Yeah, I was pretty happy to hear about this. I hadn't yet picked up 20MMTE, and had even considered the standard DVD 3-pack during one of the big sales recently. More classic film in HD = studios getting money from me. About time, too, since there's hardly anything through the end of the year that I'm interested in.

In the UK, ITV is apparently working on more Powell & Pressburger (yesss!) and the BFI has some big things coming up in a few months. Definitely anticipating whatever they've got.

there's a fuckton of blu-rays released today \m/

Definitely picking up:
Dark City
Clear and Present Danger
The Hunt For Red October
Patriot Games

...and I'm thinking about getting The Lost Boys, everyone I know says it's pretty good and I've never seen it.

Anyone else in this thread going to break the bank for today?

...wtf? How is it worse?

Its no where even in the same state as the matrix.

Got 21 and Batman Gotham Knight, 21 was an amazing film..good sound and PQ. Gotham Knight was pretty good, I liked all the episodes after the 1st one, I hated that one...but the others were good and the special features and documentaries were awesome, in 480p though.

Cant wait for Ironman, October right?

I got Dark City on Amazon for $8.95 after the Amazon Prime $10 promo. It should arrive by Thursday.

Has anyone gotten their copy? Here's a review and screencaps and it seems the picture is much improved over the dvd but has some edge enhancement and plenty of DNR which looks really nasty :(

We shall see.
