I got both mine today, amazon prime free 2 day but always sent overnight anyway ftw :D What method did you choose?

I can't figure out why people buy so many movies. I like to buy the ones that I think I'll watch again--maybe one or two every year. Otherwise, Netflix. Do you people really watch all this stuff over and over again?

I cant speak for others, but yes I do. I almost treat them like books, I watch them and loan the out and in some cases like Weeds i got not only some friends but my parents all hooked on the show. My parents are currently borrowing all three seasons of it so they can watch it.

Just watched bad boys 2 the other day with my roommate and I have probably seen it 5-10 times.
I also especially enjoy re-watching movies after i get a new TV/speakers/sub/receiver or some combination.

James Bond Blu-ray Releases Get Detailed
Posted July 29, 2008 06:12 PM by Josh Dreuth

MGM Home Entertainment has announced the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray releases of the James Bond films 'Dr. No', 'Die Another Day', 'Live and Let Die', 'For Your Eyes Only', 'From Russia With Love', and 'Thunderball', due to hit store shelves on October 21st. Video will be presented via 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Each title, which has recently been restored and re-mastered via Lowry's digital frame-by-frame restoration, will include a movie ticket to the upcoming Bond flick 'Quantum of Solace'. They will also be packaged in sets of three, with Volume 1 featuring 'Dr. No', 'Die Another Day', and 'Live and Let Die' while Volume 2 will feature 'For Your Eyes Only', 'From Russia With Love', and 'Thunderball'. These three-packs will feature two movie tickets.

Waaait a minute, weren't these remasters criticized when released a few years back? It sounds like the Blu-Rays are using those too. :(

Yes, these are the same ones. I dont see why anyone would expect anything different. EON/Sony spent a boatload getting these done, so they werent about to chuck them in the trash some 3 years later just because some people on the internet are raising a stink.

For the record - yes, Lowry fucked up the color timing on some of the films (and the framing on one of the films), but the overall clarity and cleanliness of these new masters outweighs that for me. Watchinf the remastered Dr. No and From Russia With Love on the 2006 UEs was a revelation for me - they had never looked that good.

I wasn't aware that the framing was off on only one of the films. Do you remember which one off the top of your head?

Anyway, doesn't sounds nearly as bad now.

Mark your calendars, Kubrick fans: Sony Pictures has announced a December Blu-ray debut for the comedy classic 'Dr. Strangelove.'

Starring Peter Sellars and widely considered one of Kubrick's finest efforts, 'Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb' will make its much-anticipated bow on Blu-ray December 9.

Given the early lead time of the studio's announcement, there are no tech specs or supplement details available. However, Sony previously released a special edition DVD release, so a comparable batch of bonus features is expected. Stay tuned.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $28.95.

You'll find preliminary specs for 'Dr. Strangelove' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under December 9.
nice :D

Goldeneye's framing was botched for some unknown reason. The first example I can think of is the scene with 006 and 007 infiltrating the plant at the start of the movie. There is a shot of them both crouched, holding their rifles (just before 007 sets the charges on the gas tanks), in the theatrical version, the VHS versions, and the first DVD SE version. In the 2006 UE version, half of 006's gun is cut off by the framing. Its like they zoomed in slightly and also cropped a bit.

Amelie is being released in Canada on August 12th; English subtitles are included.

Final specs are up for Masters of Cinema's UK release of Mad Detective (a movie that I thought was absolutely horrible) on October 20th. The bonus features are in NTSC and region-free, along with, presumably, the disc itself:
* 1080P 2.35:1 Widescreen (AVC)
* DD2.0, DD5.1, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks
* Carefully created new English subtitles
* Q&A with Johnnie To at the Cinémathèque Française Johnnie To retrospective (Paris, France, March 2008) – 35 minutes
* Exclusive cast interviews shot during the Far East Film Festival featuring Lau Ching Wan and Lam Suet (Udine, Italy, April 2008) – 14 minutes
* Interview with Johnnie To for the French theatrical release of Mad Detective (France, 4th March 2008) – 21 minutes
* Original UK Theatrical Trailer
* 16-page booklet containing specially commissioned essay by David Bordwell (Jacques Ledoux Professor of Film Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison)

And specs for Fox's five-movie Planet of the Apes Collection on November 4th:

Just watched Blade Runner on BD. First time I've seen the movie. Didn't really like it that much. It was decent, but not amazing as I've heard. Picture quality was very good though.

I felt the same way the first time I saw it, but this film is pretty much the definition (for me, at least) of a grower. Every time I watch it, I appreciate it more.

Great news! One of my favorites, and such great looking art direction. I just hope they do a good transfer.

*edit* WTF at the $51 price...

So which of the thus-far announced Bonds do you guys think are worth buying? Unfortunately after having seen so many a lot of them tend to blur together in my mind and I forget which ones are worth owning. I don't want to buy all of them.

Dr. No and From Russia with Love are musts.

From the first wave of five, I would get all three Connery's (actually works out that they are releasing my 3 favorite Connery flicks, which rocks for me), skip Live And Let Die, and skip Die Another Day.

So basically, pick up Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball.

Any plans for Hero or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? I'm in the mood for a visual feast and pissed that Flying Daggers transfer supposedly is shit.
