For anyone interested in Lonesome Dove -- Best Buy broke street date, I picked it up there yesterday. Mileage may vary, of course.

Beowulf on BD is extraordinary looking. WOW

And There Will Be Blood is absolutely exquisite looking. I can't believe I missed it in theaters. Photographically it is just .... it's actually maybe one of the finest shot movies i've ever seen.

And I recieved it today. SO EXCITED!! Put the Workprint disc in to get a quick look at it. It's also the first blu-ray I buy...previously I only had the spidey 3 movie that came in with my PS3.

...yeah I don't have a HDTV yet, but it's a future-proof purchase. :P

phenomenal transfer - you need to get a good HD CRT or plasma and enjoy all those deep noir blacks

Oh hells yes. Firefly comes out in November. Think they'll come out the same day?

I'd be surprised. Fox owns the distribution for the series, while Uni has the movie. Studios generally don't go out the their way to coordinate stuff like this, unless they think it will have some sort of sales benefit.

Even if you don't have a HDTV with which to fully appreciate the Blu-Ray set, you can still enjoy the Dangerous Days documentary on disc two, which clocks in at a solid three and a half hours and is absolutely exhaustive.

Where are you from where T2 just came out and favorite is spelled favourite?

In the UK :D

I was going to get it imported over from the US, but i think this version is the directors cut, where as the US one is the theatrical cut.

I cant find Dark City anywhere :(

I went to buy it a Frys this weekend, and instead stumbled upon their HDDVD firesale.

So now I own alot more HDDVD's but still no Dark City.

Wow I didn't even know there was a director's cut...what's different?

About 20 minutes of extra scenes (some good, some rubbish). The UK version has a VC1 video encode and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio (not DTS HD MA)

I won't mention that I got my Dark City Blu-Ray today in the post then :D

I've only seen it once before, so it'll mostly be like watching it afresh :D

yeah, but I want to watch it now. Which I undestand I could be doing had I ordered it from Amazon last week, but if I order it from them now it will be later this week when I can see it, versus me maybe finding it in the store this week.

I'm not always logical.

I just stole this from Wikipedia

Three versions of the film exist: the Theatrical cut, a "Special Edition" of the film for Laserdisc, VHS and DVD and an "Extended Special Edition" available only as an Easter egg on the Ultimate Edition DVD. The "Extended Special Edition" was titled the director's cut on the European HD DVD release.

The special edition has been the same from release to release, with all the scenes that Cameron reinserted intact. There are, however, two scenes that Cameron shot but chose not to reinsert into the film which have been included as an accessible extra on most "Special Edition" releases. The first scene shows the T-1000's tactile approach to acquiring information about the physical world, "scanning" John's room with its fingertips, and eventually finding a hidden shoebox containing pictures and tapes of Sarah, seen at the end of the first film. The second scene is an alternate ending set in 2027 with an aged Sarah Connor reflecting on how Judgment Day was averted. The addition of these scenes is the only difference between the "Special Edition" and the "Extended Special Edition". This version can be accessed by pressing 8, 2, 9, 9, 7 (based on August 29, 1997, the date of Judgment Day) on the main menu of the DVD. The easter egg is only functional on the Ultimate Edition DVD (no longer produced); however, these scenes can be accessed at a certain point in the film with the interactive mode on the Extreme DVD. In addition, the Extreme edition contains several easter eggs, which include access to the theatrical version of the movie, and a preview for the Ultimate Edition DVD.

I think the main differences over the standard version are the bits with Reese in the Hospital, John teaching the T800 to smile and the malfunctioning T-1000 in the steel plant.

I havent watched it yet, so it may be either the Special Edition, or the Extended/Directors cut. Its definitely the longer running time on the box (as it doesnt actually say what version it is!)

i ordered dark city last thursday, and got it the next day on friday, was just regular 2 day prime shipping, so i was quite pleased

Do we know anything about the Blu-ray release of Amelie yet? I really hope it's region free but there will probably a french release later, as long as that has English subs...

There is also another scene in which they removed the T-800's CPU from his head.

WTF are you talking about? All their releases so far have been codefree.

Really? I checked one of their releases and it was listed as Region A only. I hope that I'm wrong and that you're right. :)

Very true. Got the DVD, just had to get the BD.

Watching it now. It looks surprisingly good, if a little grainy at times. Colours are very vibrant, and the sound is fantastic :D

yeah, if anybody in Canada wants to pick up an extra copy for me when it comes out, I'll compensate ya.

Picked up an assload of hd dvds lately.

Just a heads up , dont buy PAYBACK on hd dvd.

Its the directors cut , and its nowhere near as good as the original.

(also , youd think with the space on the disc they'd include the original version , but no)

for 6 $ i cant really complain all that much but still kind of a piss-off.

Also , for anyone with an hd player , do yourself a giant favor and buy THE FOUNTAIN.

It looks absolutely incredible (especially the scenes in space)!!

Not to mention its amazing movie , imo.

Yeah I watched, pretty amazing stuff! I thought I was buying five blu-ray discs though...not 3 BDs + 2 DVDs. :P

Yeah, should be like 65 at amazon.

I've never seen it before so I can't wait.

Looks like the pre-order price on Amazon is $69. Not bad.

You're in for a treat. I've watched the entire series three or four times and gets better every time.

The sound design and cinematography are first rate. As long as they don't apply any DNR, this release should be spectacular.

Band of Brothers can be preordered for $59.95 from the WB Store with the AUBM8 coupon code.

There are direct captures floating around from the Japanese HD-DVDs (which were not DNR'd), so we'll definitely have something to compare it to. I'd be surprised if Warner went to the trouble of redoing the transfers, but one never knows...

And get the movie a month after it comes out :lol

That WB store is a complete joke. I might still do it, but more than once I bought an ultra cheap box set from them and got burned.

WB is honestly the safest studio as far as releases go, they havent really borked one yet. The Matrix is the closest because they tinted everything green to match the sequals, but from what I've heard the 'brothers' made that call, not WB.

You haven't used them in quite a while, I assume? They've been getting items out in advance lately, and everything I've gotten from them over the past few months arrives right on the release date or earlier.

Haven't been in this thread much so sorry if it's already been covered, but has there been any update on the release date for American Gangster on Blu-Ray?

So if this had been the theatrical/widely released cut of the movie, would there be a Terminator 3 and Terminator Christian Bale movies?

edit: and I guess television show too?

It's a Tuesday, seems pretty fitting to me.

It's also a programme about war being released on a day that we're supposed to remember those who died to protect us. Maybe it's just me but it seems a bit tasteless.

It really isn't tasteless at all.

I picked up The Counterfeiters earlier today at Best Buy. I saw it in the theater, but haven't had a chance to watch the Blu-ray yet (it's BD Live Enabled, too). Fantastic film, and I make a habit of buying each year's Foreign Language Academy Award winner.
