The HD Movie thread

I saw For the Love of the Game last night. For some reason, the Dolby TrueHD track was really low, with tough-to-hear dialog. I ended up switching to the Dolby Digital Plus track and that was MUCH better. Sounded great. The movie also looked fairly good for the most part. the movie itself was pretty melodramatic, but I liked the baseball bits.

Cool. I did the Moviestop deal and traded in 4 old DVD's and reserved the Iron Man BD. The Iron Man cartoon movie would have been a cool extra but they are releasing that seperately on BD soon.

Were there any movies on hd 15 discs?? :lol

I got a couple of those "get five free HD DVDs with your player" bundles in the mail, and since they generally ran out of anything good and started substituting random movies in there, I ended up with a copy of Bulletproof with Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans...and yes, it is on an HD-15 disc :p

OUCH.

:lol

So I got a dilemma and i'm going to pose the question to GAF HD Club here though i'm pretty sure what the answer is going to be. So on the 19th Justice League Season 1 comes out on Blu-ray and the following week Heroes season 1 and Nightmare before Christmas comes out on Blu-ray. I have all three preordered but not paid off (especially Heroes). I'm going to get Nightmare because i'm pretty positive its going to be a showcase title, especially with the holidays coming up. The problem is i'm not going to have enough to get both Heroes and Justice League so i'm going to have to drop one of them. I'm leaning Heroes because it looks like JL is not going to be in Widescreen which pisses me off to no end. Basically looking for validation in this decison.

I wouldnt get either, personally, and wait for Band of Brothers.

Naw, I saw Saving Private Ryan. I don't need to watch an extremely long cut of it.

no hate mail, i'm sure there alot of people that like it, not my cup of tea

Will there be a regular edition of the Iron Man release?

I used to be a sucker for all these limited/special edition stuff until I realized that I don't watch ANY of the goddamn extras. I own the Extended Edition of LOTR on DVD with its fancy packaging and all those extras and till now, I have not watched a single minute of the extras.

i wouldn't want an extremely long cut of saving private ryan either. it's pretty low on the scale compared to band of brothers, besides the opening and closing scenes.

This is pretty neat. Amazon.uk is taking preorders.

That looks pretty cool. One thing less I am waiting for.

I am really hoping that we will see Dexter on BD. That's the only TV show I am interested in buying.

Reservoir Dogs on BD means I'm getting my hopes up for Pulp Fiction some time next year. Please god please.

I saw Shinobi today. Looked very clean, but not spectacular for the most part. Some of the nature scenes looked really good but I kept having the feeling that the movie could've looked much better considering the cinematography. The audio (Japanese) was Dolby TrueHD, but it was pretty tame, and I didn't notice a lot of ambient sounds, though the dialog was clear.

The movie itself could've used at least a half dozen more fight scenes.

I hope that's not the only BD version of Iron Man coming out. I hate that. I just want the movie and that's it. And I'm willing to pay $25 for it, but I won't shell out $40 for that extra stuff I'm not really in to.

To those that have seen Iron Man, is it worth a blind buy?
Yes, even if the only sense you had left was touch, you could still rub your fingers all over the box and bask in its awesome.

I guess I am joining the HD movie community here on GAF. Saw Hellboy BR last night, looked very sharp. Looking to try Jumper and Sunshine next.

Am I an outcast for Netflixing instead of buying? :(

Nope. I Netflix basically everything.

Nope. If there was a Netflix over here I think I would do the same. :lol

Jumper is a pretty shitty movie, I don't know the BD. I love Sunshinse though and picture quality on that one is awesome. Makes me wish to see Alien in HD should be even more claustrophobic.

Sunshine's a treat. Solid film with incredible visuals.

I've netflixed a good number of crappy films but I've also made many purchases of "classics".
It's nice to know that the good transfers of movies being released on Blu-Ray will be the definitive versions of these films for a long, long time.

Can't wait for Iron Man and Transformers, I still have 2 movies out from Netflix after I cancelled. I will return them but I must watch them first. (been 2 months)

So I'm sticking to buying now.

Iron man will be my next purchase too.

BTW did any of the HDDVD owners here see The Thing? What did you think of the transfer? I love that movie and I only have it on a DVD that is not even anamorphic.
