No trilogy, no purchase. NO PURCHASE.
good boy.

hopefully it won't be long. (star wars came out on dvd 7 years after its debut, so don't hold your breath.)

Which doesn't make sense given his business plan. If he adopts the format now, he'll be able to maximize the number of times he can re-release his films for maximum milkage!

Think about how many different ways he could have re-released Star Wars during those 7 years. What a waste.

Are you kidding, Lucas hates us all, and Spielberg has man relations with Lucas.

Trilogy will be here in a decade.

What's wrong with Indy 4? I don't love it, but it felt pretty damn Indy to me. This coming from someone who watched the first three all very recently before #4. The story gets pretty outrageous, but it's not a bad Indy movie. I guess I don't have nostalgia for the first three (second one was garbage imo) and I don't particularly love any of them at all actually.

Yeah don't read HDD for their movie reviews

I don't get the hate either. I love the first three but don't see what was so bad about the 4th.

I thought we all agreed that we'd ignore their movie reviews and focus on the other stars?
We did? Sounds like a plan to me.

I saw U571 on one of my HD movie channels, it did look pretty good.

Man the impending release list is sick. I just easily placed a $100+ order on Amazon for Iron Man, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Sixth Sense, and Sweeney Todd.

And that's not even counting stuff like Matrix, Kill Bill, Godfather... There's a lot of heavy hitters coming. I look forward to seeing more traffic in discussion in this thread as a result. Things have been a bit slow lately.

Also, I just received the High Definition Natural History set from. Slick ass package, but all I've ever seen is Planet Earth. Anyone have a recommendation on which in the set to watch first? Galapagos, Ganges, or Wild China?

I've been semi-dormant on this thread as my house has been being remodelled, and that meant no HD for a while... but after this weekend, I ought to have my new setup fully operational.

I've been cool on new releases as a result too-- what should I use to break in my new stereo/screen?

just preordered Iron Man, Matrix Trilogy, Speed Racer and Transformers.

Transformers I didn't even like very much, but figured my son might like it. He's only 7, but as far as I remember it, its not really a very violent film is it? Don't remember any people getting killed on screen? Just rock'em sock'em robots right? He's into the new animated series at the moment (yes I know its shit)

So I own a BDP-S300 and well.....

I can't really say that I'm happy with it. I bought it at Target on clearance for $250. So far, the player refuses to play new titles, but it played just fine The Prestige, Black Hawk Down, etc. Quite disappointed.

Feanor you probably have to update the firmware the hardway- that is look up your model number on the company website, find a firmware update, burn it to a dvd /cd and put it in the player. It'll probably take a little while to work but it should allow you to atleast play the new titles.

For anyone interested. DDD has some $9.99 HD DVD deals going on for WB titles.

Sin City coming so soon is a shocker. Sure it was listed as "coming soon" on the first Disney BD title releases, but I thought for sure they were gonna hold it back to coincide with the release of SC2 in theaters.

What did you get, speakers and screen?

Men In Black looks pretty good and the sound is fantastic.
Batman Begins you'll see how well your tv displays dark content.
Both are fairly new releases.

I don't know. For Will Smith demo material, I'd go with I, Robot or I am Legend.

I, Robot will put a new tv and speakers through its paces.

Are there more sites like highdefdigest.com? It would be nice to see more opinions regarding picture quality on films.
Check out the AVS forums not only for their master list of picture quality on discs but they also post links to other sites that have reviews.

From HDD:

UPDATE 08/15/08: We've received word from Disney that despite retailer reports, the studio has now pushed back the Blu-ray release date for 'Sin City' to sometime in early 2009. We've updated our database accordingly

Fucking SHIT!

This is a very good blog that posts blu-ray image quality reviews with full res screen captures:

http://whiggles.landofwhimsy.com/archives/bluray/

whiggles also picks up on things that most review sites ignore: digital noise reduction and edge enhancement.

Dvdbeaver has started to include full res screen captures with their reviews/comparisons:
