wow who in the fuck decided it was a good idea for freakin disc based content to have to load shit from a webserver first? Why not download it IDK if you go and choose to view the special features?
Its the jusitification of the next generation, who cares about PQ and audio if it doesnt have internet connectivity its junk!

Funny enough if not for the internet I would probably be driving back to best buy all pissed off! Can you imagine all the people that don't go to AVS or read highdefdigest that are pissed off at ironman right now?

If you are going to add extra stupid shit, at least make sure it works.

Is TDK going to be a full 16:9 picture like the prologue teaser was on Batman Begins?
Funny you should ask...

For the Blu-ray Disc however, while most of the film will also be presented in the 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen ratio, the scenes that were specifically shot in IMAX format will be presented at 1.78:1, which will fill the frame and will thus recreate the IMAX experience at home. This is not via seamless branching (you can't turn it off). But trust me: It's very cool. It's not gimmicky at all, it really adds something to the film - an extra little bit of 'oomph' to the action scenes, so to speak. So there you have it. It goes without saying that we obviously can't wait to get our hands on the discs.

That's kinda dumb. There really should be a choice.

I would personally like to bop them one right on the noggin if anyone claims to have an issue with that.

Went to Walmart today and they were sold out of the Iron Man BD. Pretty surprising. First time I've found a BD sold out. That's a good thing though. Ended up getting it at Best Buy. Going to watch it now:D

Do you have a PS3? It's connecting and downloading the BD-Live material. Go into your settings and turn off the auto connect option, see if that helps.

edit: I changed the setting from allow to confirm, and it loaded right up. It's downloading BD Live content, it just doesn't let you know it.

Thanks its working.

i thought my copy of iron man was fucked up, just had to turn off the automatic download, whoever decided to include that with the bluray was retarded

"sold out" or "everything was returned"? anyway, I was going to go to Borders because they have a B2G1 sale going on but then I remember the prices there. They want $40.99 for Iron Man. Yes, those are US dollars. I know the economy is bad but damn.

believe it or not...thats always been like that. I'll never understand how stores like borders and barnes and noble still carry media like dvds,cd's and blu rays with those kind of prices.

It just takes a few minutes to download and initialize everything. After that you won't need to worry about it anymore. Probably better than disabling your internet connection every time you wanna watch the disc.

What is the actual MSRP for Iron Man?

wenis said:

It's a good thing most films don't follow that (other than fox titles), that's absolutely absurd and I would have never went into HD at that price. Even as an early adopter.

Ironman PQ and AQ rocks. Looks absolutely brilliant on my bravia. Now to wait for Hulk, Wall-E and TDK.

Mine as well I thought was faulty, however remember to turn off your internet seetings for BD/DVD in your PS3 guys. :)

Thanks for telling this. I had my thing sitting on some blue eye for like 40 minutes.

I'm surprised you guys have such long wait times. I left my PS3 online and I did have to wait longer than normal, but nothing worth noting.

Is the experience different for Canadian viewers? I got prob 50-60 seconds max wait time.

I'm surprised no one quoted this, this is one of the scariest horror movies for me, ever. I'm watching it again on a whim tonight and I was hoping it will be on the release dates for BD and I checkd HD Digest, and there it was. I didn't know it was just announced :lol

Hopefully the PQ is good, paramount in dark horror films (puns are fun).

BTW I got the Steelbook Iron Man on BD, hopefully it's not defective. It's a Futureshop exclusive.

alright so word around HDD is that all the iron man discs are not the defective models, but the sticker that sits over the defective upc means that you have a good disk. paramount just didnt reprint the hundred of thousand inserts with the new upc, but stuck a cheaper sticker over the old one. we are fine folks. false alarm, the slowness of bd-live can be attributed to the fact we are ass ramming paramounts servers right now considering the movie just came out today :lol

o yeah and Im thoroughly enjoying my new dawn of the dead BD....im glad I waited instead of buying an HD DVD drive for it.

What if mine just has the bad UPC?

I was able to watch the movie, so I dont really care. I also got through the BD Live stuff really fast, but my player (BD-up5000) is one of the better players on the market.

maybe they just missed placing the sticker on my box?

the bad UPC on the insert is fine. paramount didnt reprint the inserts with the new UPC, but instead placed a sticker over it. your disc is fine. unless you got a disc a few weeks ago everyone has good copies.

ok, cool.

I didnt have the sticker at all, or maybe I removed it and dont even remember, who knows. I dont care, it played fine.

Movie still rocks, the fucking bass is insane.

I wonder if they really fixed anything. I mean, prior to release day the BD-Live servers weren't up, right? And if the disc automatically searches for the Internet content upon insertion that would certainly cause some hangs if said Internet content doesn't exist yet.

Just a conspiracy theory, nothing more.

My Iron Man took 6-7 mins to start up. Now it's fine. But when going to the BD-Live options it says that my player is not connected/not BD-Live compatible.

How long is the download supposed to take? My brother left the PS3 on after I went to work, just got back and it was still on the same screen.

Do any of you have the Onkyo reciver? I have the 705 what settings do you guys have it on to get the best sound?? I have it on PLII Movie - but I've been messing around with it lately, and I don't know which one is the best...I mean I could experiement but I'd rather take the experts opinions on here.

So for the rest of the calender year we have (in big releases)

Wall - E
Sleeping Beauty
The Dark Knight

...missing any?

Depends on what you consider a "big release". The Incredible Hunk will be coming out, Wanted, Kung Fu Panda, Prince Caspian, Hellboy 2, Get Smart etc.

I'm mostly interested in catalog releases this winter, TBH.

How can you leave out Band of Brothers and the Matrix collection? Also, the catalogue releases trump everything, besides TDK and a few others.

In terms of quality, no doubt about it.

But when dealing with movies that will move hardware, I disagree. Something like Indiana Jones will probably be more important than The Matrix Trilogy in pushing Blu Ray players. (But I'd much rather have the Matrix Trilogy...or just The Matrix.)

Just another reason why the PS3 is the only truly sensible choice of BD player.

Agreed.

Does anyone here already have the Thing on BD? What do you think of PQ and AQ? I still have the shitty non anamorphic BD so I guess the upgrade will be great anyway but I'd like to hear some opinions. I am really anticipating this disc becaue I love that movie. :D

I just watched Event Horizon again, I cannot watch that movie at full volume in the dark, mostly because the audio jumps so high when director Anderson wants to scare the audience. My new impressions are that it's a horror movie with cheap scares like many others in the genre, but it's still scary as fuck. The flashes of nasty stuff are annoying. I don't think I'll buy it in HD, but it's still the scariest movie for me. So overall it's an ok horror flick that has its roots dug deep in my memory.

I just saw that This is England is available on Blu-ray. Anyone got it? Picture quality? Is it worth to buy the Blu-ray?

I'm on the fence about Band of Brothers....
It was shot with an intentional grain on it. The DVDs already look SPECTACULAR, I just can't imagine the bluray looking that much better *shrug*

I think I'm ready to do Blu!

Why I think I'm ready? Beacuse I'm quite sure the HDTV my brother bought is kinda crappy (I don't think "Graetz" exists outside of Israel since Google didn't come up with any results). I don't have it's specs but it says it's "HD Ready" and has a HDMI connection, so I guess it can output 720p.
my HDMI cable will arrive in the next few days.
I have a nice 5.1 system.

Is there any reason I shouldn't start buying stuff like crazy, beside money? I want to buy tons of movies already. Kill Bill is staring at me...

Edit: Found some speces, not quite sure what they mean :\

First of all, it says 1366x768, then contrast 1:2000, dynamic contrast 1:10,000 and something about 500cd/m²

Anyone can tell me if it's shitty/nice?

I've got it. The video looks pretty much the same as the HD DVD if you've seen that, in that it's very good but it won't blow you mind like some of the best classic movies (Blade Runner, 2001, etc). If the only version you have is the non-anamorphic DVD you should have no hesitation in buying it.

The audio is DTS-HD compared to DD and DD+ on the DVD and HD DVD versions, so it's pretty much going to be an improvement no matter what your setup is.

I had the Japanese HD DVD set and it was definitely an improvement, even if it wasn't leaps and bounds beyond the DVD. There are direct feed comparison shots here (first and second page), and I'd expect the BD to look the same or better. According to the box the HD DVD was only 1080i, for one thing, which suggests that the video will have to be redone for the 1080p BD.

I haven't seen it mentioned here specifically, but there are NO defective Iron Man discs in the wild. All are corrected. As most of you figured out, the problem last night was the BD-L servers getting slammed and just killing the startup of everyone's discs. Mine took like 20 minutes to start up the first time, and then after it started up the BD-Live feature yelled at me saying I didn't have an internet connection. Being this was my first BD-Live disc I got worried that I got a defective disc.. But before I went to bed I gave BD-Live one more shot and it connected, downloaded the trivia game, and worked fine.

Paramount should have REALLY anticipated demand better both for this release and how many 2.0 players are out there. How are we supposed to have faith in this format when these companies can't even correctly gauge demand for it (as referenced by undershipping a bunch of catalog titles this week as well).

Anyway, aside from the BD-Live shit, a solid disc throughout. And for fans of the movie and especially the comics, the trivia is actually a great time. I scored about 705 on the Iron Man comics one.

I thought PlII movie was for dvd viewing? I'll have to check when I get back home, but I don't think I put any sort of processing on the sound. Just straight up PCM. It's annoying cause I barely get any usage out of my 6th speaker.

sunshine. half way through. Had to stop it as its getting late and I like my movies loud. Amazing PQ, this looks so much better than I remember at the cinema. wow.

also popped in Irobot. HD is so hd that it makes the CG stand out... but only a bit.

I really want Artificial Intelligence on Blu now. I know its not the best movie but I think it'd look tremendous in HD.

Don#t know the HD DVD so it's good to know that it looks decent. I wasn't expecting it to ook lie Blade Runner because the master is not the best afaik. Didn't know about the DTS-HD (I didn#t really take a look at the audio specs) is cool. Should have some nice "WHOOM". :lol

Haha I know what you mean. Pretty much every BD I have looks better than my the stuff they show at my shitty theater...
