Yah, BDs looks *tons* better than regular projector cinema. On better TVs they look better than even digitally projected cinema if you ask me. Anything projected will never have as good blacks and contrast.Jax said:yes. I saw TheDarkKnight and the picture was murky, the audio was off and I believe the cinema ruined it for me (the cinema I was in, you could hardly hear the score). Can't wait to revisit it on Bluray.
Love my 705, i set mine up to matrix everything into THX 7.1. If it receives a 7.1 signal from the PS3 it does nothing, but for everything else DD 5.1, TrueHD 5.1 DTS 5.1 it makes it 7.1Christopher said:Do any of you have the Onkyo reciver? I have the 705 what settings do you guys have it on to get the best sound?? I have it on PLII Movie - but I've been messing around with it lately, and I don't know which one is the best...I mean I could experiement but I'd rather take the experts opinions on here.
So for the rest of the calender year we have (in big releases)
Wall - E
Sleeping Beauty
The Dark Knight
...missing any?
OK, that makes sense and I thought it was the case, but just wasn't sure. I've read that for some people Transformers BD had the same issue - hammered servers resulted in very slow startup times. I got the disc a few days after the release so I probably avoided that.borghe said:I haven't seen it mentioned here specifically, but there are NO defective Iron Man discs in the wild. All are corrected. As most of you figured out, the problem last night was the BD-L servers getting slammed and just killing the startup of everyone's discs. Mine took like 20 minutes to start up the first time, and then after it started up the BD-Live feature yelled at me saying I didn't have an internet connection. Being this was my first BD-Live disc I got worried that I got a defective disc.. But before I went to bed I gave BD-Live one more shot and it connected, downloaded the trivia game, and worked fine.
Your disc is fine. Iron Man's BD-Live stuff is borked. I had the EXACT SAME results as you posted above, but at about 11pm last night before I went to bed I gave it one last shot and it downloaded the trivia. The recalled discs were mastering errors and had nothing to do with any of this BD-Live stuff. This sstuff has to do with the BD-Live servers getting their asses kicked.Marconelly said:Can someone give me a short breakdown of the Ironman situation. I read the last few pages, but I'm still not sure what was the problem with the disc to begin with.
I got my disc from Best Buy in Canada, it has a sticker on it (I didn't read the number)
When I put the disc in the PS3, Iron man's chest magnet thing started flashing on the screen and it lasted for a few minutes. I thought the disc froze, and remembering what some people reported as a problem/solution from Transformers (problem that I didn't have btw) I went and selected BD Live access to "confirm", just as I see suggested in this thread now. I also deleted all the settings from the BD Data folder, just in case, as I remember that was a solution for some problem someone had at some point. When I did that, and selected I do not allow internet access, the movie played fine.
Later on, I left the setting to allow access automatically, and the move eventually started like that as well, but when I went to BD Live access screen in the movie, it said I do not have internet connection.
So is the movie defective or what? It looks like it won't access BD live content even though I had left internet access to 'Allow'.\
Same here with the picture. My friend even leaned over halfway through and said it was like watching it on a crappy LCD because the black levels were so bad. I don't know what on earth was going on there.Jax said:yes. I know I've already replied to you, but I've just found a comparison between the BD and the three DVD versions here, complete with direct feed shots. The one in the infirmary is a good one to see the difference in detail, particularly compared to the non-anamorphic ones.Xater said:Does anyone here already have the Thing on BD? What do you think of PQ and AQ? I still have the shitty non anamorphic BD so I guess the upgrade will be great anyway but I'd like to hear some opinions. I am really anticipating this disc becaue I love that movie.![]()

Yup, haven't checked it out yet though. It should look great, and the Blu-ray comes with the complete soundtrack on CD which was a nice unexpected bonus.mrklaw said:anyone picked up LA Confidential? My disc turned up yesterday but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Should I pick up the first season of the terminator show? what did everyone think of the PQ and AQ. As well as the show itself?
It's up on amazon for 36 bucks which isnt too bad so I could just scoop it up along with some other stuff.
Yes. And that's already $15 cheaper than the MSRP, you won't find much cheaper. If you think $25 is too high you should probably wait a few more years before getting into the Blu-ray marketMenaged said:Is there only a 2 disc edition of Iron man? whoa, where do you live, 15 dollars for shipping?Menaged said:I understand that this is the situation and there's nothing really to do.
Unfourtuantly, I can't sit back and not buy Blu-Ray movies when I have an HDTV and a nice 5.1 setup.
And that's why in time between this and my last post, I placed an order for Iron Man. Shipping hurt A LOT (15$) but... whatever, I just won't buy Resistance (the first one) next month.
Can't wait for it to arrive. I really enjoyd the movie back in the theater.

Just a Samsung plasma. Not among the best out there for sure, but I liked the picture of it the best among the TV in the same price range back when I got it. It looked way better in darker setting than any comparably priced LCD and it was $500 cheaper than Panny and $1000 than Pioneer. It's not a perfect TV by any means, but the black levels, contrast and colors on it absolutely destroy that of a regular cinema projector. I actually think this TV is capable of stronger colors than much more valued Panasonic and Pioneer TVs from the same period, but it has problems that those two didn't have (more visible dithering, and banding being the most obvious)jett said:What kind of TV do you have Marc?

There's a very marked difference in video quality throughout this 1.78:1 1080p series, as might be expected from something cobbled together from source material spanning virtually 50 years. All of the contemporary interview segments, as well as the more recent archival footage, look completely crisp, with fine detail and excellent color and saturation. Somewhat surprisingly, even some of the newly restored vintage material looks great, such as Ed White's spacewalk, which crackles with definition and sharpness (compare it in the episode version with the original NASA unrestored version on an extra and you'll be amazed). At other times, the old 16mm and 35mm film elements are just kind of tired looking, with faded color and lots of grain. The historical importance of this footage overrides any momentary quality issues this set may display, however.
Final Thoughts:
I'm not ashamed to admit I got quite emotional several times while watching this brilliant multi-disc set. When We Left Earth managed to make me not just proud to be an American, something that is sometimes not so easy to be in this day and age, but also, more importantly, proud to be a human being, part of a generation that sought to reach beyond itself and start conquering the vast reaches outside of our atmosphere. Dramatically assembled from some very rare NASA footage as well as exemplary contemporary interview footage, When We Left Earth is an awe-inspiring history lesson that will frequently leave you breathless. Highly recommended.
I dont know when I'll be able to sit down and watch the whole thing. Having a roommate now makes it more difficult to just pop anything i want in and sit down and watch.bune duggy said:I'd like to hear more about this.
