Goddammit. I just pulled the trigger on the UK Battlestar Galactica complete series set. $166 shipped. ~$40 less than the US version with the crazy-ass packaging.

I will watch it and I will enjoy it and I will love it, all over again, but dammit if a little piece of me died inside when I hit Submit. That's a lot of money.

So much better than the POS US boxset design. I still can't believe that crap design was greenlighted.

That UK BSG set is so tempting...

Is it region-free? I forget these things and am pretty ignorant in the first place.
Pretty sure it's region free.

Too bad the Life boxset doesn't work on the PS3, though... I would definitely order that.

Question: I watched District 9 the other day and the aspect ratio was different to the other Blu-ray movies I've watched (no black bars, for lack of technical knowledge).

Was this intended?

if you look close it actually has small black bars on the top and bottom

So what's GAF's consensus on 9? The reviews and people's opinions are so mixed that I don't know if I should get it or not.
Even for an animated movie it is pretty brainless and lacks the charm of Pixar or Disney movies.

Worth renting because the pacing is pretty tight and the action is quite fluid, but definitely not a purchase. It is also very short (again, even for an animated film).

Thanks, maybe I'll get it if it drops to $15 or something.

Picked up Misery and Horton Hears a Who for cheap today.

Can somebody say how season two of Fringe and The Dollhouse are going? I was thinking of getting them while they're on sale. I've read reviews on them and everyone says that they're good starts, but I don't feel like getting into something that doesn't follow through.

I'd check the shows threads, but I want to avoid spoilers. I saw the first couple of episodes of Fringe and wasn't too crazy about it, but everyone says it started off weak and it's a genre that I like...

Dollhouse S2 is, in the last 4 episodes, going from "good" to "holy cow, I wish it had a third season". Fringe S2 is delving more and more into the "mythology" of the show and it's ramping up a lot faster than most shows. It's almost like they aren't getting a 3rd season either because shit is hitting the fan fast. At this rate S3 is going to be straight-up crazy.

apparently, from a clue in the criterion 'happy new year' pic, M is getting a blu ray release? I was going to import the British version so that sounds more convenient.

Watched Pixar's UP last night. The image quality was incredible. I can't wait to see AVATAR in 2D blu-ray now.

UP was easily one of the best movies I've seen all year. Heartwarming, charming, poignant. I almost cried like 3 times. PIXAR is amazing.

I've said to people that if you don't cry or don't have tears in your eyes within the first five minutes, you are made of stone.

My friend said he didn't like Pixar movies when he saw my Blu-Ray copy of Wall-e. He said they were for little kids. It took everything in my power not to punch him in the face.

Your friend was right, you know. But at least Pixar flicks are worth to own if you want to show off your HD system :)

Pixar have been good about making movies that target younger audiences but can also have appeal to older audiences who aren't jaded.

I'm made of stone, I mean I can see how and why, but just no water droplets.

Did you end up getting the Batman set as well?

No :( I ended up getting lots of clothes for Christmas. I assume the set will go down in price soon.

Ahh that sucks, I mean clothes is nice, and everyone starts to get it, but the movies do look nice in blu... well the 3 I've seen.

So hard to bring myself to willingly watch Batman and Robin again.

Also, thought the Amazon price was fair, think was 50 bucks for a while which works out to like 25 bucks per movie with two freebies.

And what's your PSN tag? or do you have a standalone player?

Obviously, there are quite a few Blu releases nodded to in that picture, most exciting to me being the Red Shoes and the Brakhage stuff. Unf.

Too bad I don't have a Blu player anymore. :\

Yeah... one of the few times I could't stop myself from crying during a movie. Even if it is sad I could usually pull it together. But Up had me almost choking on my tears, amazing movie.

I have a place near me that gives great trade in prices, I might break down and trade in my BGS US Blu Ray set and get that UK one. Asside from the better packaging, does the UK set have a disk guide so you can find out what disk to go to for a certain episode? Also, is Razor on it?

I've also watched this:
2391_newsarticle_f.jpg

and really enjoyed it. It looked and sounded incredible. I'm struggling to see where the masses of criticism came from.

I think it was their constant bragging that they were going to the north pole and not once mentioned it was the Magnetic North Pole they were going to, not the true North pole.

I just bought the BTTF Trilogy on DVD. Oh well, I can live with buying it again.

In other news, Coraline is positively gorgeous in HD.

Good news, everyone!
The BTTF ad has made my day.

If they also see fit to give us the Indy Trilogy (yes, trilogy) this year, 2010 will be one to remember.

I just got 300 finally, The Inside Man, and American History X on blu ray

Now my collection is:
Batman Begins
Dark Knight
Kung Fu Panda
Transformers
Iron Man
Gattaca
District 9
Weeds season 1 and 2
Requiem for a Dream
