Picked up Tombstone on BD, transfer isn't bad. The wide open landscape shots are pretty awesome actually.

Worth a buy if you're a fan of the film for sure.

I'll probably wait until they get the director's cut (hopefully with both versions) on blu.
 
Insomnia, his best film. The Dark Knight has the best highpoints (Joker) and The Prestige's pace and density is superb but Insomnia is just so soul soothing.

Why would they do that? I thought they did region free blu rays, and I love their edition of Sunrise.....damn.

Their policy is to make them region-free whenever possible -- in this instance, it was not due to licensing/rights.

They were filmed at the same time, but the films were digitized for effects and post production several years apart. Apperently TT and ROTK used much more advanced tech.

no looks like they made a mistake, because the older Star Treks are 9.99 this week at Best Buy. I ordered it though along with The Thing for 9.99 and Forgetting Sarah Marshall for 11.49
 
Saw Fantastic Mr. Fox last night. What a great movie. I had heard it was good but I thought it was great. It was really funny and the characters and how they interacted with each other was great as well.

Just ordered Star Trek from Amazon, glad I never bit when it was $19.99.

Man, even with $8 int'l shipping to Canada and the conversion, this'd still be just $20 when every store here still sells it for $30+. So tempting!

I loved Star Trek, actually rented the Blu-ray on Netflix and watched it 7 days in a row. :lol

and I didn't really love it in theaters. The sound design and editing on that film is mindblowing.

I definitely enjoyed the film and it's something I can see myself re-watching, but I probably wouldn't have bought it at $20 ;) 7 times is a bit hardcore, though. I haven't done that with any film I own.

Yeah, I don't know how it happen. Different friends/family kept coming over and we just decided to watch it.
 
I was excited to see The Digital Bits announce several titles classic British films coming this summer from Image, namely Time Bandits, Withnail & I, The Long Good Friday, and Mona Lisa, all due out on August 24th. Unfortunately, the UK releases of Withnail & I and The Long Good Friday were apparently not what you would call amazing, with TLGF reportedly having some cropping to go along with a mediocre transfer. Still, I'm looking forward to all of these flicks, even if they're not going to be shining examples of Blu-ray production. Who knows, perhaps they'll even be remastered for the US release. It's a possibility, right? Right?

I watched some songs from the film VOB format (so they're copied straight from the DVD without re-compression) upscaled to 1080p on a PS3 and they look pretty damn good, gorgeous even, especially Smooth Criminal. I'm sure[?] it'll look loads better on BD though.
