Nice. I'd love to see some reviews on the quality of the transfers though.

[EDIT]

Nevermind what? Why did you remove your post?!?!

I posted a link to the DVD version of the upcoming del Toro collection which was priced at £11.99 and thought it was the BD version. And compared it to Amazon's listed one... confused as to the price difference. :lol

So studios are now releasing the movie on Blu-ray and then later they'll release it again with better picture quality? Really makes you want to go out and buy the movie on day one.

You mean Gladiator? That was a one-off thing, and the backlash about the PQ issues in that started way before it hit shelves.

Plus there's an exchange program. If you bought the shitty one for some reason you can send it in for the fixed one.

I watched Gone Baby Gone for the first time last night and absolutely loved it, now I want the Blu Ray. Anyone have anything to say about the quality of its BR release?

Ahhh the trailer gave me goosebumps. Even in YouTube's crappy 1080p, the detail and color look amazing.

Can't wait for this one.
I've been waiting for that ever since I saw the few snippets of the film in HD in that generic Disney trailer that used to come at the beginning of Disney Blu-rays. That trailer was such a tease because there's still no sign of most of the movies in it :lol

For anyone looking to replace their Gladiator bluray the number just instructs you to email this address with your Name, Phone Number and Address and they'll get in touch with you.

Dos questions:

1. Disney's Aladdin, bluray, what's the word?

2. Is the remastered Gladiator bluray on Canadian store shelves? Do the packaging telltale signs apply to Canadian packaging too?

I emailed that addy a couple of weeks ago and finally got a response back from them, they told me to call them :| Not sure though if it's a different number that you called. I haven't bothered to call the number they gave me yet.

I got the same response from that e-mail. Haven't called yet either.

My guess is it will be after The Lion King, which was just announced last week for release next year.

Did anyone pick up the Good, the Bad, the Weird on Tuesday? I'm trying to find out of the US version of the Blu-ray has standard English subtitles.

I got the Canadian version from E1 Films today and aside from the standard bilingual changes expected the content appears to be the same as what I've heard of the US, but the subtitles are English SDH ONLY - so sound effects ([woman screaming], [gun shot], [music plays], etc) are included in the subtitles as well and it renders the movie nearly unwatchable for me as they're extremely distracting.

Oddly enough, normal subtitles are included for the French subtitles, but that's useless to me.

I can't believe this is still an issue in 2010 on Blu-ray... was there not enough room on the friggin' disc for another subtitle track?!

Does anyone know why Shutter Island is ridiculously expensive? The Blu Ray is like $35 everywhere up here in Canada, it sucks. I really want to watch the movie again, but I can't justify paying that price hike.

Canada, I think.

Mike Works, the price of new release Blu-rays from what I've seen is usually around $29.99 Day 1, followed by a slight increase for the next few weeks or months, depending on the movie. Shutter Island was a pretty big release, it came out two months ago, so I'd expect it to drop around Boxing Day at the latest. Sometimes there's promotions when a title from the same studio comes out. The next Paramount release is Iron Man 2 at the end of September, but I don't know if they'd cross promote with that title. I'd say if you want to see it right now, just rent it, but from your post it sounds like this is a title you want to own, so all I can say is that it should drop before the end of the year. :/

Edit: curse my slowness

Edit 2: Not that great, but the lowest I could find was $27.99 on amazon.ca...a bit better than $35

And: Both Lolita and Barry Lyndon are currently being prepared for Blu-ray Disc release by the studio in 2011. They also hinted that the films are going to be available both as singles and as part of a new Stanley Kubrick Blu-ray Collection.
Yessssss :D

Not a movie, but I just brought this:

All four seasons on Blu Ray. Was only released in france (everywhere else including the UK and USA only got seasons 1 and 3 on blu ray). This box set is 85 euros on amazon france.

After selling my Season 1 boxset (got £30 for it), this set cost me a grand total of...£39. And shipping to the UK is only £4. Three more seasons on Blu Ray for that? Bargain. Should do well enough for a 'get well soon' gift for my girlfriend. She fucking loves Prison Break. :lol

Oh, and it's got a French outer box, but all the discs, menus and inner boxes are in English. And it's region B too (wouldnt be an issue if it was anything else anyway, I have a region free player).

Oh, and I should be getting this through in the post soon:

Hurry up, amazon. goddamnit.

Deadwood now has a date of November 23rd on Amazon! I need to preorder this thing now before it gets too expensive.

Really hope it isn't the special edition of the film with "the morning report" re-inserted. That song was removed for a reason!
It'll almost certainly have both like the DVD. The Beauty and the Beast BD has all three versions like the special edition DVDs did.

I was thinking about picking up the Aviator on BD, but there isn't many reviews of it and I don't about special features. Anyone have any impressions regarding the BD release?

EDIT: Nevermind, highdefdigest's search function apparently weren't up to the task. I found their blu-ray review of Aviator by other means.

FYI: War of the Worlds BD took a $5 price dive today @ Amazon to $16.
Whatever you may think about the film itself, this is a must have for the audio alone.

Also, Grindhouse BD packaging shot. So glad I preordered this for $14!

Three versions for Beauty and the Beast? I am aware of the 2002 IMAX re-release with the previously-removed song re-added, but not anything else other than the cancelled/postponed 3D (ugh) version.

The third version is the workprint version.

Work in progress. Storyboards, pencil tests, etc.
Ahh, thanks. Really looking forward to this one! Beauty and the Beast has my favourite Disney score. The introduction set against the stained glass pictures gives me goosebumps every time.

Yeah, the workprint version is the one that was first shown to the public in 1991 when the animation was only 80% complete. It's not a lot different, but Be Our Guest is in a different place and the stuff surrounding it has changed. The IMDb alternate versions page lists all the differences.

I'm looking forward to seeing it on Blu-ray because the DVD edition was notoriously over-compressed from cramming three versions of the film into 8GB.

Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 are meant to be out this year as well, aren't they? That one keeps getting pushed back, but it'll be a truly godly home cinema experience once released.
