Now I have to clean my keyboard again.

When will this come out? Today? Yesterday? Where is 2000? FUCK!

I searched for Fantasia on Blu-ray on Play.com and it came up with separate Fantasia and Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 versions. No release dates or prices there yet.

Thinking about it, coinciding with the BD release of The Sorcerer's Apprentice could be a good bet.

Oh shit. That's probably going to be it. The upcoming slate of Disney Blu-rays is amazing.

October: Beauty and the Beast
November: Toy Story 3
December: Fantasia/Fantasia 2000

I don’t know, having two classic animated Disney titles within two months of one another seems unlikely. I could obviously be wrong but the fact that neither of the Fantasias have a firm release date and that it would break the 1 movie in the spring, 1 movie in the fall pattern we’ve seen thus far seems like a delay is incoming. Again, I could be wrong but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Well, Fantasia was supposed to be the "1 in the spring" but was delayed. When it was delayed, it was given a new date of December 2010. Plus, I can't help but feel that a release date coinciding with the release of The Sorcerer's Apprentice like NekoFever mentioned would be something Disney would do. As for multiple animated classics releasing close to one another, I could be wrong, but Bambi is the big release for Spring 2011, and Dumbo I think might be coming early next year as well (delayed from February of this year.)

I really wanted to love this film, but I could never shake my belief that all its beauty and achievement was just wasted effort* on an artistic medium that wasn't ready yet. It was half a film, waiting for technology to catch up to allow the other half (voice) to be added.

*As a finalised piece of art. Obviously, from a historical context, it wasn't a waste at all.

Hopefully the high-def print will make it shine so others get a chance to see its beauty then violently disagree with me.

?

I could walk into a shop today and pick up a shiny new blu ray copy of Dumbo.

I've been wanting to get some of the Disney movies. Is it worth paying the extra money to get them on Blu-Ray?

Very much so.

Anyone know if the UK blu ray of Mad Men season 3 is region free?

How exactly? Just at the base level the plot is solid, pacing is great and looks wonderful. Seeing in HD won't change whatever your problem could be with the film.

Play's showing Fantasia and a Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 double pack on 8th November. Only £1 more for the double pack so that seems like a no-brainer.

Pretty damn good October/November for Disney fans. Since I'm buying a UK Beauty and the Beast and a US Toy Story 3 that'll be all three of those coming out in just over a week :lol

im assuming this code is specific to the user? how do i get one...

The Toy Story 3 code? Yeah, it's individual. My wife got one via email randomly this morning. We have a habit of buying Disney/Pixar BRDs for the kids for holidays, so it came at a good time (Amazon's plan I'm sure)

how did you get a copy of a rental only movie? used?

It is a rental copy. Had to give it back, goddamnit. :lol Dexter is all mine though.

On the similar topic, someone came into my work and traded in a brand new sealed copy of Toy Story on Blu Ray (came free with his player, he didn't want it). I brought it as preowned, got a staff discount which brought it down to...£6. Best deal ever.

Great Scott, please tell me that the DNR is just for the commercial cause I see alot of DNR!
I wouldn't take a YouTube trailer as indicative of quality for anything. Even at 1080p, YouTube videos have less than a tenth of the bitrate of Blu-ray video available to them, and dropping the bitrate on a video is a quick way to get rid of fine detail.

In fact, The Digital Bits said as much today:
It would be a mistake to pre-judge the transfer quality based on this compressed trailer - even in HD. Trust me, you just can't see all the fine image detail here that's actually in the final discs

There's some news about Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. They're both coming on 11/30. You get both movies in one package. You can't buy them separately.

Now then... we mentioned these titles the other day, and you've been waiting over a year for news about them. But Disney has just officially confirmed the Blu-ray Disc release (and DVD re-release) of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 on 11/30. You'll be able to buy a 4-Disc Blu-ray Special Edition (SRP $45.99) and a 2-Disc DVD Special Edition (SRP $39.99). Each will include both films. Let's start with the DVD, which will include Fantasia (fully restored) on one disc, and Fantasia 2000 on the other. Extras on the DVDs will include the Musicana and Disney Family Museum features, along with audio commentaries. Both of these discs will also be included in the 4-disc Blu-ray, which will add a Blu-ray version of each film. Exclusive features on these Blu-rays will include the Dali & Disney: A Date with Destino documentary, the long awaited Destino film itself, The Schultheis Notebook, Disney's Virtual Vault (BD-Live), an Interactive Art Gallery and DisneyView. The aspect ratio for Fantasia will be the original 1.33:1, while Fantasia 2000 will be 1.78:1. Audio on the Blu-rays will be in 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio (48 KHz/24-bit), along with 5.1 DEHT tracks in French and Spanish. You'll get English SDH, as well as French and Spanish subtitles.

It will be nice to see Fantasia again but I was never a big fan. Hope Amazon has it for a good price. I really wish Disney was going with some of their later movies as I personally find them much more enjoyable.

Thankfully Destino will be on the set, but how about Lorenzo too? How about Disney just get their shit together and release a set with all of the short films from the last 10 years instead of at best hiding individual ones away on random other sets or at worst never letting the public see them at all?

I don't understand why Disney is so damned unwilling to actually release their shorts. Why make them if all you're going to do is through them in a vault?

I just rewatched Millennium Actress on DVD and once again I'm wondering when this film is even going to be announced for release on Blu Ray in Japan. :(

Since Kon is dead, maybe that'll bring new interest in his works and they'll get Blu-Ray releases.

Yeah, that's what prompted the rewatch. :(

I'm not even sure who owns the distribution rights in the US for the film anymore - GoFish Pictures doesn't look like it exists anymore (and hasn't for a long time), so who knows what's going on there. Hopefully Sony will pick it up when it's eventually announced, since they already have several other Kon films.

EDIT: Seems like the film is out of print now here too.

RE: Fantasia - by (fully restored) do they mean fully restored as in the original cut of the film or do they just mean we cleaned it up a bit?
So far, the Disney restorations of their catalogue titles have been perfect. Not a single thing wrong with them. Reference material, even. How much of that is down to their thoughtful method of storing all their film negatives and how much is due to the restorative process is another matter. I'm not expecting anything different for Fantasia.

Isn't the PQ in these movies pretty bad?
From blu-ray.com:
Okay, so there's some good news and some bad news (but, thankfully, no outright ugly news). First, the bad. While some were hoping for a new re-master of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, MGM has—not unexpectedly—stuck with the same transfer that was used on the 2009 stand-alone Blu-ray release of the film. And this transfer didn't exactly win over the hearts of videophiles. Based on a 2002 restoration and originally engineered for a subsequent DVD release, the transfer exhibits issues that wouldn't be as apparent in standard definition, but definitely show up in 1080p. Edge enhancement is frequently noticeable—forming sometimes white, sometimes black haloes around hard lines—and the overuse of digital noise reduction often results in waxy facial textures and an artificial diminishing of the film's grain structure. So, no, the transfer isn't ideal, but it is an improvement in terms of color and depth, with dusty Technicolor hues and solid black levels.

The good news is that both A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More look much better. There are still some small issues—Fistful appears to be slightly cropped, and some lines and textures do seem unnaturally edgy—but both films look less obviously tampered with and more naturally filmic.

"The Man with No Name" trilogy is on sale at Amazon for $27.99.

Finally, feels like forever.

And with Fantasia 2000 is that the normal aspect ratio? They say the original Fantasia is but don't say if that's the case with 2000.... I just don't want another shit ass job of making something that isn't widescreen widescreen by cropping the shit out of the picture.

They haven't done that with any other Diamond release yet, so I wouldn't expect any change here. They tend to extend 4:3 pictures by including images either side of the frame drawn by relevant artists. It works if you can't stomach black bars.

I can but with jungle book on dvd they stretched it and then cropped off the top and bottom so the top of Mowgli's head and part of his feet were cut off from the original. I'm just always afraid they'll do that clusterfuck again to keep from having black bars.

I'll probably drop the money on Fantasia, but I'm more excited for Beauty and the Beast since its my all time favorite Disney feature. Can't wait to see it in glorious HD.

Ew, that does look bad. NONE of the Blu-Ray releases have done that so far. I watched Snow White and Pinocchio in glorious 4:3, with black bars. It'd be really bizarre for them to change that now.

Thankfully, with their Blu-rays Disney has been great with preserving the original aspect ratio. Fantasia is fullscreen and Fantasia 2000 is widescreen, and going by what The Digital Bits reported, that is how they are going to be presented on the Blu-ray release.

Awesome, I've only bought a handful of their blurays so I'm glad to hear they're not doing the old crap they did. Can't wait. :D

Will Fantasia have DisneyView?

^ That'd be the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Ew. I own the new Jungle Book but haven't watched it yet. Now I'm angry.
