It is bad form, they even have different extra content.B.K. said:I wish that set was region free.![]()

So would it make sense to hold off on ordering these movies until Black Friday itself, or should I order them now and have separate orders and possibly pay more for shipping, etc?

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that will release Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no tani no Naushika; Hayao Miyazaki, 1984) on Blu-ray on March 8, 2011, on a BD/DVD combo pack. This would be the first Blu-ray release of a catalog title from the famous Studio Ghibli in the US (the 2008 production Ponyo was released earlier this year).
Special features include:
The World of Ghibli: Visit Nausicaa's world in this enchanted interactive experience
Behind the Studio: Discover the film's origins in this documentary, including an interview with Hayao Miyazaki
Enter the Lands: Explore the many worlds of Studio Ghibli
Studio Ghibli Trivia Challenge
Original Japanese Storyboards
Behind the Microphone: with A-list voice talent (on the DVD)
The Birth Story of Studio Ghibli (on the DVD)
Original TV trailers (on the DVD)
I think it sucks for the consumer, i.e. bad form. If you think it's good practice, that's cool, I just disagree.Cosmic Bus said:How is it bad form? MoC and Kino contractually agreed to lock their respective releases of Metropolis so as not to intrude on sales of each others product in their native countries. MoC produced their own additional content and are certainly under no obligation to share it with other distributors. Kino's release, [supposedly] due to an initial manufacturing error, is actually region-free -- that is the "bad form" here, although I can't imagine anyone going to the trouble of importing that version when the MoC is so much better.
In terms of the film, there is a marginally lower bitrate, probably unnoticeable for the vast majority of people. That's it outside of the packaging and disc extras.mattiewheels said:Either way guys...........is the Kino version of Metropolis identical on the disc, if not in the beautiful packaging? Guess that's all that I care about since there's no option.
You're certainly right. Regardless of the specifics of packaging and audio commentaries etc, the film is incredible, it's been given the treatment it certainly deserved. No one is going to be disappointed with their discs, whatever country they're in.mattiewheels said:Fantastic. I take things as they come with region locking since I'm used to having zero options just a few years ago. I understand that international rights can mess with releases, and that companies like MoC would have everything they release as region-free if they could. The occasional rights issue doesn't phase me because I know they're trying.

Bootaaay said:Apparently 3:10 to Yuma has a good 7.1 track - also, I've often seen Red Cliff & Hellboy 2 mentioned as having good 7.1 masters, too.

You need to listen to it. Specs are at 192/24 TrueHD :O

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
http://magazine.creativecow.net/article/inside-hbos-the-wire"The reason the show has stayed 4x3 is because David Simon thinks that 4x3 feels more like real life and real television and not like a movie. The show's never been HD, even 4x3 HD and that (SD) is how it is on the DVDs. There is no 16x9 version anywhere."
