So never then. :( Thats a damn shame. To think that one of the finest tv shows ever made might never go blu.
The Wire is my favorite show ever, but blu-ray would be wasted on it. It was taped in standard definition and formatted for a regular-sized TV screen.

You don't watch The Wire for visual splendor anyway. Distract yourself with the amazing acting, writing, and social commentary.

Well this is true. :D

SD transfers to BD wouldn't be entirely wasted. They can benefit from the superior codecs of BD. Too many tv shows I've seen have macroblocking due to stuffing too many extras and languages on the disc. They could also benefit from not having to deal with your DVD player's de-interlacer. Some de-interlacers are better than others and sometimes you get quality loss or combing artifacts.

I'd still like to see these SD shows on BD for the sake of having the entire series on a disk or two for convenience sake. I wonder if the BDA has minimum requirements for content on BD.
Not gonna happen if The Simpsons season 13 is anything to go by. Source is SD but the season is still 3 discs on BD and 4 on DVD. They are upscaled to 1080p.

Heads up for those in Canada (though this might be on at Best Buys in the States too)

Best buy Dundas in Toronto gave Fantasia Bluray (the combo) to me for $25. Dude was nice enough to put the coupon through for me without me going back home to print it out. Fantasiaoffer.com I think.

Awesome!

You're never going to see any major studios doing this; it's about perceived value. If a consumer if offered the choice between a series for $100 on ten discs or a series for $100 on one disc, the larger set is more appealing because it feels like they're getting more for their money.

I guess I'm confused about film sources, but The Wire looks like it was shot on film to me. Is it that their source material for the show has been converted to SD from film and there's no going back? Or is it just a matter of an HD transfer costing too much....

Do most retailers take those $10 off Disney coupons? Looking to get Fantasia from Target or Best Buy probably.

The Wire was shot on 16mm and then a bit on 35mm film, but edited on SD. They wouldn't be able to recoup the costs back of scanning the film and re-edting the entire show for a new HD master.

it's def worth the 10 bucks I paid for it - good family movie

You got both Fantasia and the Sorcerer's Apprentice together for $25 total? How?

The coupon got me $10 off just Fantasia.

Gonna try and go to target and Get Fantasia + Sorcerer and get $10 off and use the Disney $10 off coupons for each movie at the same time

So i'm watching Destino and i'm compelled to check the shiny Fantasia cardboard slipsleeve for acid. Seriously, WTF! In a good way mind you, but still WTF!

totally awesome that moving from menu selection to menu selection plays a piano key. Maybe someone with more time and musical skills could use the menu and record a song.

spoilered something neat about bluray someone might want to find out on their own

There is a $10 off coupon for each movie.

How does that get the two movies to $25 total? They're $30-35 each most places, no?

I used the coupon to drop Fantasia from $35 to $25.

Starting to get my Amazon haul in. S2 and S3 of Mad Men and Kick Ass came today. Just watched Kick Ass; what a fun movie.

EDIT: Who has Fantasia the cheapest right now? Gonna print my coupon and get it tomorrow.

Maybe Bestbuy let him triple stack? $10 off per movie and then best buy's promotion of $10 for buying both movies? Either that or it was a typo.

Memento: 10th Anniversary Edition coming Feb 22

A double dip of Christopher Nolan's 2000 masterpiece is on the way in celebration of the film's 10th anniversary this February!

In an early announcement to retailers, Lionsgate says the mysterious crime thriller 'Memento: 10th Anniversary Edition' will hit Blu-ray on February 22.

Suspenseful and unique, 'Memento' stars Guy Pearce ('The Hurt Locker') as Leonard, a man who suffers from a rare brain disorder on a mission for revenge.

The Blu-ray will feature a re-mastered 1080p transfer supervised by Nolan, a brand new featurette with the director discussing the legacy of the film, plus the director's script, audio commentary with Christopher Nolan, the original short story, "Anatomy of a Scene" and more!

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.99.

You can find the latest specs for 'Memento: 10th Anniversary Edition' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under February 22.

You're shitting me! Never thought this would show up on bd, day one when it finally decides to come out in Europe.

So do you guys use the digital copies that come with some blu-ray's?

Up until today I had only used The Dark Knight one.

So I decided to use all of the ones I have that aren't expired. I checked my collection on blu-ray.com and I have 49 movies that came with digital copies. I'm up to 9. Only 40 more to go!
