Is this the same as untitled?

Another big Kubrick set coming up:

WHV said:
On May 31st, WHV will release the Stanley Kubrick: Limited Edition Collection on Blu-ray ($148.95 SRP) -- an unprecedented 9-film, 10-disc collection, which contains every film the director made since1960. The collection features the film and bonus content from A Clockwork Orange 40th Anniversary Edition, the Blu-ray debuts of Lolita and Barry Lyndon, as well as the feature films Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut. The Blu-ray collection will be elegantly boxed in new book-style premium packaging and will include a 40-page hard-cover book that explores the breadth of genres and themes in Kubrick’s work.

The new 2-disc Clockwork Orange is being released separately, but there's nothing about Lyndon or Lolita being available outside the box (yet). Those two are hitting France around the same time, though, so that's an alternative if you don't want the whole set. Worth noting also is that Spartacus is licensed from Universal and will be the same lousy transfer as before.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't "La Puta" in spanish mean The Bitch? :<

let me ask my mom...

She said either bitch or whore depending on dialect. Not sure how right she is. It would be pronounced different in Japanese though. There is no L sound.

As I learned from my mother and aunts when I was a kid when I called my sister puta it's not nice to call your sister a whore. It's funny how in spanish puta has more weight than calling someone a whore in English. Whore in english is almost comical but in spanish it's the sort of thing you get spanked over.

My mom called my grandma puta once. My aunts were pissed off.

I've found that those types of cuss words seem to sound more harsh in Spanish than in English.

Amazon also has I Saw The Devil blu with a release of May 10th.
Geez, just two months after the starts of its limited theatrical run. Such short waits make me question whether seeing it in theaters makes any financial sense.

Hope it's ok to ask in here. Anyone know a good Blu-ray player that play divx/xvid/etc?

That's a common feature which nearly all the big brands player have (e.g. Denon, Pioneer, Sony, etc.). If you want the best blu-ray player buy an Oppo. Dedicated players for the different codecs are offered by Dune, PopCorn Hour, etc.

Anybody have a 3d TV that they use with blu rays? I have a Sony without the transmitter, and I'm thinking of going out and splurging on a starter kit (~$300). Mainly for blu ray, but I have a ps3 and Xbox with games that are compatible as well.

What do you guys think the value proposition is on that?

Yi Yi (criterion release) is out on Tuesday. Also, The Man From Nowhere (one of the most critically acclaimed Korean films of last year) just came out...

Almost picked this up yesterday, but I've never seen the director's cut and it looks like that's the only version of the film on Blu-ray.

For those who have seen it, is it just as good as the theatrical cut, or does the added footage bog the pacing down too much?

Is anyone aware if the US Tron/Tron Legacy BD releases are likely to be Region Free?

The US special edition is infinitely better than the UK one, and i am thinking about importing, but obviously i dont want to do it if it doesnt work!

Anyone here pickup the Blade Trilogy?

Would like to know how the quality of Blade 1 is. Someone stole my DVD and I need my Blade fix!

Derp nevermind, Just saw some pictures someone posted on Amazon about the video. WoW!

Alliance's pressing of the first part of the trilogy is in 1080p, but not in the OAR of 2.35:1. Rather, it's 1.78:1. To quote the man himself, "Motha-fucka, you outta your damn mind?!?!" Blade's quite the eloquent speaker...

Guess I'll pass and hope for a re-release.

Interview with Sony's Grover Crisp about the restoration of Taxi Driver and the process.

Interesting Bits:

By process, I mean a full 4K workflow with no downrezing. Especially scanning at 4K, it preserves the essential resolution of the 35mm negative. The resulting HD master used for the Blu-ray authoring was derived directly from the final 4K files.

Q: Were director Martin Scorsese or cinematographer Michael Chapman involved in the restoration? Can you talk about the extent of Scorsese's involvement?

A: Yes, they were both involved, at different times, during the work. Whenever we work on a restoration we involve the filmmakers, if it is at all possible, especially the cinematographer and director. We would not work on this without Scorsese's input, of course. We ran the original 4K samples by him and had follow-up discussions and viewings. He was very much interested in this film looking like it really is, a product of the time and place in which it was made.

We also found that the film had lost frames in several places over the years and discovered that there were long ago efforts to take care of torn frames by just cutting them out. We located the torn frames, reinserted them and digitally repaired the frames. A common approach years ago to issues like that was to just remove the damaged frames and pull up the audio to match it and, basically, unless you knew the film really well, you would not necessarily notice this. But, it was surprising with this film how much of that was done.

For Taxi Driver, what I can say is that I think this upcoming release is the most authentic to the way the film looked when it was originally released. Previous releases on DVD were from an older transfer, about ten years ago, that was not subject to the supervision that we insist on and did not involve the filmmakers as we do now.

Doesn't the Fighter come out on Tuesday? Exciiiite.

This movie makes some rally remarkable use of varying film/video stock, and it looks really great on Blu-Ray.

Just rewatched, and still my favorite film of last year.

What I'd do for a full 30 Rock set of Seasons 1-5 on bluray in about four months.

Guess I'll hold out for an inevitable package of the whole series on bluray in a few years.

Was wondering if any non NA people here have had any trouble with the US Patton blu-ray on their bd player? I've got an Oppo bdp 80 with the latest firmware, everything runs ok until the film starts up, then I just get 20% of the picture in the left upper corner. The subtitles are were they are supposed to be.

Worked fine on my Ps3 when I got it from Netflix some time last year.

I can't try it on my ps3 since its region coded, fuck this generation of technology.

edit: It's a problem with the player, hopefully it will be resolved.
