Watched Run, Fatboy, Run last night on Blu-Ray.

Nice movie. Yes, it's a "Man loses girl of his dreams, man tries to woo her back via some sort of daring feat" comedy but despite that it was enjoyable, funny, and starred Simon Pegg and Dylan Moran.

The picture quality was surprisingly good, with a very rock-solid image, great black leveles, a very vibrant colour palette and overall strong detail. My only gripes with the picture was that contrast seemed to waver sometimes, skin tones occasionally looked a bit ripe and fine-detail on some close-ups wasn't as strong as it should have been.

The audio was very good for a comedy with heavy use of the rear speakers and some nice bassy moments. The score sounded very nice.

Overall, a very nice Blu-Ray disc.

Saw Ocean's 13 BD. What a disappointing film in terms of PQ. Looked SD for the most part. Only certain daytime shots of vegas looked good. All the indoor scenes looked terrible. One scene in particular, with Bernie Mac's orange coat, looked about as awful as I've seen HD look. Even my wife commented on how disappointing the PQ looked.

I'm guessing it was director's intent for the movie to look that grainy and oversaturated?

Yeah the movie looks like ass. I remember a customer wanting to see the difference between HD and SD, and we had an open copy of the HD-DVD lying around (which was a combo disc), so I show him the SD version first, followed by the HD version, and just felt like an ass, the only way I knew it was on the HD side was because the WB logo looked nice.

How can you tell if Cloverfield is in HD or not - the whole thing was through a SD cam perspective...would it even matter between that and upscaled DVD. Um audio?

It was shot on expensive HD handheld cams.

Quite true.
Check out the high def trailer on the PSN not that long ago, it looked pretty good.

We will just have to see what happens when Paramount's embargo ends on March 4

Do you have a place or a listing of all you BRD's? I'm looking through my collection and it feelsl ike i'm missing something I dunno why but it does.

The next big titles are coming up guys

Twister, I-Robot, Predator, and I am Legend!

The only movie I want from that list is The Kingdom, but I would be better off odering it from Amazon or something. Guess I'll keep waiting.

2 questions.
Does the 2-disc edition of Justice League: New Frontier have any features that are missing from the BR version? Also, does anyone know how Amazon charges? If I order something now will they charge me automatically or does it take a few days to process?

Does anyone know anything about this? What are the odds of it still coming out?

Also why am I just now finding out about this...

Not that I would spend that much for it or anything... I'm guessing the dub is still in English (since that is the original language I think)?

I'm watching the Method Man concert hd-dvd

It's looks pretty good. Lot better than the stuff on MTVHD. The bonus stuff sucks but I guess I can't complain since I paid $8 for it new. :D

That should definitely be coming to NA soon, it was originally aired on SpikeTV, pretty kickass too, but could be called derivative I guess. No complaints from me, glad to see it hitting HD already.

For those who had read the Appleseed: Ex Machina bit about no japanese language track, that has been debunked by Animeondvd.com.
(Thankfully)

:O Indeed. I'd also like to see stuff like the Cowboy Bebop movie (which Japan already has on BD)...

Warner usually puts all the features from the two disc sets on the BRD.

All I really need for anime is: Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll and Akira.

er I also need Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

oh damn might aswell get Jin-Roh too.

WHEN AND WHERE? 58 bucks ouch!!!! This needs an american release nao!!

I neeed atonement on BD now! So March 4th is when the embargo ends? So we'll see a flood of titles on that week? : ) pleasssse.

Columbia House is running a B1G1 on all HD-DVD and Blu-ray titles and free shipping, in case anyone has an open account -- I do, but sadly they don't have anything I want.

Also, Deep Discount has a good chunk of Paramount and Universal HD-DVDs for less than $10.

um but wasn't the picture distorted to make it seem like it was shot through SD?
They added grain for the darker scenes and light sources generally bloom a bit more and of course there's the camera movement. Other than that, there's plenty of detail that should up in HD.

Guys do you know if Once was filmed on SD? I need to know if I should just buy the DVD. It's such a feelgood movie with beautiful music (and it's not even my style of music).

It was actually shot on the high-end theatrical 1080p digital camera, Sony CineAlta F23. For comparison, Star Wars EP2 and 3 were shot on slightly older/worse cameras from this series (due to nothing better being available back then of course) ;)

The HD trailers I've seen looked pretty damn detailed. It was pretty clear the movie was shot with something high-end, despite it's handheld approach.

Filmformat is 35mm and video so does it men it was shot in parts in SD?

It appears to have been shot on 35mm and HDV video. HDV is a type of compressed HD video. So between 35mm and HDV, the potential for a quality HD release of that film is definitely there. It'll ultimately depend on factors other than the medium the film was shot on.

And Cloverfield was shot on Sony's highest tier camera

Thanks. I think I will wait a few months. If nothing HD is announced I guess I will be able to get the DVD pretty cheap.

Upsetting that some of the best movies of last year are getting jack shit for supplemental areas. Jesse James, Michael Clayton, No Country. Not sure about There Will Be Blood. Hopefully it will have a lot since it is my favourite of the movies I mentioned.

I love audio commentaries and it saddens me that the Coens don#t do them. An audio commentary for There Will Be Blood would potentially be enough for me if the rest is shit.

Some AC are just awesome the last good ones I listened to were from Blade Runner and Starship Troopers.

I'm watching Initial D with the english dub on... :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol I think there was just a schoolgirl upskirt..

PQ is decent.

FYI: The BRD Justice League has ALL of the extras from the two-disc DVD. So if you buy the DVD over the BRD, you are a retard.

Cloverfield was also shot with Panasonic HVX200 which is more portable than F23, so they relied on for scenes that required no visual fx and portability was an issue

Got my Bladerunner: 5 Disc Edition on Blu-Ray. Its teh awesome! transfer of the film. Excellent excellent detail, very little noise and little bit of subtle grain.
Very impressed, got Micheal Clayton also, watch that later.
