Was gonna take a short break after ZTD, but fuck it, just started. Even Root Double's gonna have to wait.
I have absolutely, positively no idea what to expect. Looks like it has dialogue choices though, are there bad ends or anything like that? I usually just tend to skip all that.
You can technically save at most decision making areas of the game if you mess up. The game has tons of save file spots so no need to worry really. There is a few decision making moments that are time based but most don't have that.
Yea, this "side-story"-ish thing is going kinda slow for me atm, but it did give me this:
"It was almost as though Javi's kindness was seeping directly into my mouth."

Played up through chapter 1 two nights and through chapter 2 last night. I really shouldn't have started it when I had a lot of other things to finish first, because now I'm hooked. I'm even listening to the soundtrack right now at work...
I have some very very vague ideas of how things might go based on some content warnings I saw and the website pre-release (and the Steam cards that I'm trying to avoid looking at), but otherwise I'm pretty much going in blind for once, which is really nice.
EDIT: And got through chapter 3 tonight. I'm imagining, given the supposed hour count of this, that soon this pace will have to slow down quite a bit though.
And hmm. I'm wondering how much I want to know, but... I figure I should ask.
Can I "accidentally" get the true/best ending my first time through? I'm someone who'd rather see the worst things first and then work my way up, so given that I know there are multiple endings, is it the type of ga,e where at some point it'll be safe to look at a guide to mop up the bad endings and proceed to get the full endings I've missed on my way to the true one, or is it more the type of game where I might need to find a spoiler-free guide to make sure I don't miss the other endings by chance?
EDIT2: It's been a few days but I don't want to double post. I'm starting chapter 4 finally and, um:
the backlog getting censored and the blocks of red text that weren't actually said aren't glitches or anything, right? Cause if this is intentional: that's really neat.
Not sure if it is because I got used to the old sprite but I kinda prefer it because it doesnt pop out as much from the background. Still the new sprites do indeed add more consistency to the game but Im not sure how I feel about it.

I dont think you gonna get the best ending on the first try because that takes the most time to reach and there might be a few tricky parts on the decisions some are time based afterall.
Also the backlog thing is intentional which it is indeed neat and adds a special touch to it.

I usually like consistency but I feel like the old sprite had more atmospheric feel to it, but yeah, maybe it's because that we are so used to this.
The old sprite of the maid looks more ephemeral and for a lack of better word, lifeless, the new one is more consistent with her side portrait but it just seems so... odd.

Hah, I realized I was wrong to think that pretty quickly. And I managed to not only mess up that first timed choice, but be distracted during my skipping back to it and mess it up again...

Yeah, the new one definitely fits with how she looks in CGs more, but I had thought the difference was intentional. Huh. Gonna be weird seeing the new one now.
Chapter 5 pushed me from just being hooked and really enjoying it to flat out loving it.
I do wish more of it was from Giselle's point of view (especially the part when she's showing Michel her scars) since it would have made it more about her as a survivor rather than about him being protective and how he's affected by it, but all of that was really powerful still. The scene where she lays into Michel about how no one believes her and what was done to her made me tear up. Maybe that by itself isn't saying too much, since it's not too hard for media to make me cry, but... that scene sincerely shook me. I can't remember the last time something pulled me in emotionally with that kind of strength; I was afraid they weren't going to handle her having been raped particularly well and was blindsided by how honest she was. Their happiness, while it lasted, was so fricking satisfying.
Also,
I've pretty much had Giselle and Cicio on repeat since then; the music's been wonderful till now but those songs are both fantastic.
I haven't had the chance to play the past few nights, but I'm diving back in tonight.
Old maid looked nothing like any of the other material, but new maid's face doesn't quite look like it either? They just got the color of the clothes right. But I actually liked the lifeless, dull coloring.

There are more times that will get you shook then haha. I feel they make you care about most of the characters and the ones you are not supposed to like are done well for most of the part.

I think the Old maid looks fit with the portraits they used when Michel was living with his family. Might also have to do with how they originally structured the game cause it originally was going to be a bit different. The original story is apparently being brought on the upcoming fan disc with some changes of course so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
EDIT: I decided to launch the game up and look her sprites and its actually good. The expression is a bit off on that pose but its more fitting of the style of the game
The game doesnt have cut content as the game didnt have any adult content visually speaking. There has also been some updates for the game correcting typos and updated some sprites.(Mainly The Maid)
Game is All Ages both on Steam and Manga Gamer so no worries
Thanks to Selane, I got a chance to play this game (from the "FREE to a good home" thread). I've been really itching to play a visual novel since I completed STEINS;GATE and this game has definitely been on my radar for a while. Thanks again for the copy of the game, Selane!
So far I'm only on chapter 1, but I'm enjoying it so far. The character art is pretty awesome. My only gripe with the game, so far, is that the music can sometimes get distracting. With that said, the music in the game can be pretty amazing. One of the songs reminds me of the "GUTS theme" from the original Berserk anime.
After I get home from work, I'll probably chip my way through some the game between Titanfall 2 sessions.

Congratz on winning it and hope to hear more impressions as you go through the game. Its my GOTY so I like reading other people going through it and reacting to things that happen in it. Its a great ride and hope you enjoy it as much as most people in here did.
Just finished this over the past week and loved the heck out of it. It was such an incredible journey. The narrative was full of twists and turns. It was a mystery, a tragedy and an epic tale all in one. Great characters (though it doesn't seem that way at first).
The only grumble I guess is there's a lot of filler conversation.
Overall everyone should play this! Need to be in the right mood for it.
The Japanese Release for the -Another Episode- is out now.
My japanese is shoddy but I don't think it mentions the English release date.
This is probably my favorite game of this year, it was quite the ride.
I'm totally obsessed now. I hope we get more releases from Novectacle.

I had to take a break at some point, as a lot of stuff happened (I had a big move), but I finally finished the complete ending a couple of weeks ago, and I forgot to check back into this thread.
There was a point where I got stuck saving in a bad ending, but I didn't want to replay the game so I loaded up an older save and powered through. It was worth going through to the real ending because I don't think I have the time to replay a long game like this.
Anyway, this visual novel was great, and has some great writing (at least by video game standards). I can't wait for the sequel, I hope they can release it relatively soon.
There was one moment where I felt the game dragged a bit, which was when they
retold Michel's story a second time
even though it was still engaging once it got moving. Also, there was one moment that felt a bit melodramatic:
they kept building up to Morgana's story reveal, and she kept saying how bad it was, which made me roll my eyes a bit, they were crossing the lines of "show don't tell" a bit there. However, when the story actually came, it was really intense and as good as it needed to be.
Even still, the story quickly found ways to engage me and bring me back in these few moments.
And really, this was a 40 hour experience, and they managed to keep it engaging throughout despite those few things I mentioned. Occasionally I want to go and listen to some of the memorable songs from the soundtrack--it's that good.
This game probably has a better story than most video games that I've played. It really is something special and worth trying. I think it will hook new people into VNs like myself.
I think its one of the most satisfying stories recently. I love showing my friends and people on GAF the game because there is nothing like it in terms of the way it treats the characters giving them some layers to them, the art and the soundtrack are also quite unique and make me wish more visual novels took risks and went with other styles other than traditional anime.
Fack. I guessed correctly as to what was going on in chapter 2 before it was revealed. Then when it was I was like nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo due to what was happening. Things get happier, right guys? Right? Plz.....

Found out about this a bit late in terms of missing the steam sale for it. I'm in the VN mood (just beat Danganronpa 1) and i'm really interested in this one. Can you change to the old sprites btw, or are the new ones fine?

The new sprites is only for the maid basically. She actually looked a bit too different from the other characters in terms of style and coloring and kinda clashes with later events. The new maid sprites fit fine.

I just finished it, this was an excellent visual novel. Chapter 7 was probably the emotional peak of it for me, but it ended in a really satisfying way. Great music, art, very strong characterization and thematic work, I hope more people end up playing this. I'm glad we're getting the fandisc localized, though I wonder what there is to put in one.
Yep, it's a bit annoying that I can't vote for it in the GAF game of the year because of reasons. I think most people would have played the steam release that released this year.
