The International 2016 (Aug 3rd - 13th)

That's old
You can't live in SF on 4k a month

True, 4K a month in SF is like barely scraping by. But it's the most recent 100% confirmed number I could find, as a reference.

Compared to the last known report of Dendi getting around 2.5K a month in Ukraine, for example.

Just putting things in perspective. EG pays their players rather well, I wouldn't be surprised if they have the most money put into player salaries.

As for who wins, I don't care so much as long as the matches are hype. Every team has people I want to see win.

He compares them to one of the richest teams in all of sports, who's players are paid extreme amounts of money. There is a direct correlation. If you two are saying 'EG is one of the richest teams like the Yankees' then that correlates to rich players directly paid by the organization. Show me where the numbers are for EG players to make anywhere near proportional amounts for salaries as the fucking Yankees.

Example - I'll eat my fucking shoe if PPD's contract to EG made the proportional equivalent to Derek Jeter's contract to the Yankees.

Also, the Yankees of the last 30 years and even theas the 20 years are very different than the Yankees first 60 years.

Does anyone like PPD?

I do. As a casual follower of Dota he's great.

Game 1 starts off rough because Fear keeps overextending and this thread is all "LOL PPD LOST WITH HIS STUPID DRAFT" and an hour later they win, then easily beat Ehome in Game 2.

This always happens. Terrible pub players constantly shitting on PPD for his "awful" drafts just for EG to end up winning most of the time anyway.

PPD's ego wouldn't be able to handle the double TI net worth, I hope for his sake that he doesn't repeat

Then again, it would be EG winning 2 TIs without arteezy, and that might be worth it

Everyone including the analysts and casters can end up looking dumb. I'm pretty sure the desk commentators preferred every Alliance draft yesterday and they got bodied. This is why they play the games, you know? Sometimes unexpected wrinkles happen. Sometimes someone gets ganked just enough times to miss timings and completely change the complexion of the game and what the drafts can accomplish. Team fight balance is so delicate in Dota2. How many superior Drow drafts did we see in the last week that flopped because they failed to hit timings needed to push their advantages, for example?

Most drafts by most captains have been fine. It's all about what happens in the matches, who executed their plan the best and why. Game is determined between when the horn sounds and an ancient falls, not when the drafting phase ends. Fortunately my boys EG are fuckin savages.

i still think the axe pick for fear was a mistake. ppd does make weird draft mistakes that cost games sometimes and game 1 yesterday was almost that.

they won off the back of universe, sumail, and zai managing to carry. i think if they had picked a more stable lategame hero for fear and laned differently they could have won easily.

I really REALLY wanna watch that All Stars game but it will be live at 4-5 a.m. in here. Fuck.

yeah same, considering going to bed early to wake up early enough so i can watch it live this time around
skipped last years because how late(early?) it was, and man i wished i saw that live, because it was crazy

also because this years pitlord reveal is probably gonna be sick considering how good production has been this year, man i don't want to miss it

It was pretty apparent fear did not look comfortable on the hero or either how ppd wanted him to play the role. But it worked out.

Even Universe said in the post game interview that Fear was playing the offlane Axe for some reason but it worked out.

To Fear's credit, he did still manage to pull out some beastly calls.

Are there up to date power rankings available for the remaining teams? If not, anyone here wanna rank them for a noob like me?

He got some great calls off, tho.

While I think other picks could have given EG a similar effect, I don't think the Axe pick was the mistake; I think Fear (and I love my boy Clinton as a fellow old man) just fucked himself over by feeding in his lane then being forced to try to catch up in the jungle. At 30 minutes it was clear that he was no longer being asked to carry as all he had was shield, tranquils and blink. If he hadn't miscalculated the damage output that Warlock + Timbersaw would be capable of (and to be fair, which of you have ever laned against that more than once in your entire Dota2 careers?) he probably would have been able to get normal Axe items online relatively quickly (maybe blink, tranquils, blade mail, and vanguard by 20-25 minutes) and be scary. But that's what I mean by the balance of power in a match shifting unexpectedly and causing chaos. If all that happens for Fear as it would have been expected to, maybe that game is half as long. Blame Fear (who can play any hero in the pool at a very high level) making unanticipated, out of character mistakes instead of not the pick itself.

But this is why we play the games. And this is why EG is so good. Fear can't carry? They don't get lost; they just have someone else step up. And you know when you have the most fun as carry? When you don't have to do a heavy lift to win. That second game for him as Drow was the fucking dream. Good fucking luck getting to Hurricane Pike Drow through a chrono and Dusa ult.

EG + Zai is a better lineup than their TI5 winning lineup.

This was their destiny to be together. Zai is a god of support, bleed blue boys.

Just my personal opinion but I'd rank it something like this, based on how I expect the brackets to play out

1. EG - 4 players from last year's winning team plus Zai, biggest question was if Zai would be rusty but he's proven he's still top tier

2. Wings - Very hot or cold team but throughout the tournament have been playing really well

3. Liquid - Consistent throughout the year, seem to be finding their form again

4. eHome
5. MVP
6. TNC
7. DC
8. Fnatic

Zai feels like a straight upgrade who also has chemistry with the team, not that Aui was bad he was great but Zai is an amazing player

Ayyy they actually had purge do a little bit of the weather.

For what it's worth, there was a thunder cloud over my area of the map and it is raining outside my office right now. So they actually put in a little bit of effort.
