The Internet Hates Diablo III

I had many :lol's to this mainly because it all rings true. Some of you silly Diablo fanatics need to sit back down on your child stool and suck on the pacifier a bit more.

After watching the Diablo III gameplay footage, I was really excited. The visuals were fantastic, a lot of small improvements had been added without seeming to get in the way of what makes the series great, and by the end of the video I found myself moving my mouse around the screen as if I was playing. That's sad, but what's even sadder is that I'm not a big-time game journalist so I can't come up with a term like "gamesturbation" to describe the lonely and desparate act while making myself cool and quotable.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that my positive impressions were irrational and baseless, while most of the internet saw the game for what it truly was: A personal insult to them and a serious threat to all they hold dear. If you find that you've mistakenly become mildly optimistic about the game, read on to find out where I went wrong so you can adjust accordingly.

Much more in the link and really needs to be read to see some of the differences. Also ENORMOUS SATANIC GRUBS!!

The art in Diablo III looks stunning to me, but then I'm not an angst-ridden 13 year old emo kid.

I love Diablo. I love Diablo clones. I will love Diablo 3.

I really don't see how this is an insult to the fanbase.

I don't even like Diablo (or Blizzard) and I think the people complaining about D3's art are being silly. Fortunately, Blizzard seems smart enough to ignore crappy opinions.

I can't imagine people not picking this up simply because it's more colorful than previous iterations.

Right. But that doesn't mean there aren't people like me who dislike the direction the style went. The characters look like caricatures. Even if I have terrible memory, and for some reason they look identical:

I don't appreciate the reduced emphasis on realism.

I wonder what some of the people laughing at / hating on the fans here would say if the next main Mario game was revealed to look like this:
marioforreal.jpg

(and then imagine people entering the thread and posting stuff like "I never played a Mario game before because of the art, but now I will!")

That would be awesome!
But the ps4 wont even be able to render a game like that...

They wouldn't react like this at all, because hopefully they can see through the horrible comparison you are trying to make

I loved Diablo 2, and i have started it again and gotten to mid-act 2 since the announcement of diablo 3.. and i have no idea why people are bitching and crying about a game looking slightly brighter than its 8 year old predecessor in the 20mins of footage we have seen thus far

What's horrible about it? I think it's quite fitting: a new entry to an established franchise with a known art style that changes said art style.

This Diablo 3 art rant is one of the more stupid things I've read all year, in motion it looks stunning, and I'm sure that some of that happy places will end corrupted by Diablo .

I'm in the same position as you (minus the not-liking-Blizzard bit).

Such a juvenile thing to complain about. Blizzard has never steered its fanbase wrong, and that will hold true to Diablo 3. Just be glad they announced it after all these years. Sounds to me like these kids are spoiled.

just like how wind waker destroyed the zelda franchise, right?

When did I say that? And how does this completely unrelated question show that the comparison is "horrible"? If anything, the Zelda WW situation is actually another good comparison. (Though not as fitting as the one I made because Zelda art in the 2D games was actually quite similar to WW)

On a side note, screw eveyone who wont play anything but OMG "realistic" games. I want a cel shaded Wii from the ground up Zelda game. Would be nice if they cycled between the two styles for each console release.

Shit! Didn't know 6 year olds could play D2!

I was around that age when I played Diablo 1 (I was 8).

Loved Diablo 1.
REALLY loved Diablo 2.
I can definitely tell the art style is WoW-influenced, but I feel like I'm going to love Diablo 3 as well.

EDIT:
Though I do think the globes of health are kinda dumb.
I liked micromanaging my health with potions. It added another layer of difficulty to the game.

I guess if the globes aren't too numerous it won't be too bad.

It's sad how so many people are mocking those that are upset about the new look of Diablo. Being displeased over something is understandable, being displeased over someone else being displeased over something is fucking pathetic. What's even sadder is that anyone with one eye and half a brain should be able to see that Diablo III looks almost nothing like its predecessors so the complaints are justifiable. If you like how Diablo III looks, good for you, stop belittling people because they don't share your opinion like some child would.

:lol

So what does that make the person being displeased with the people being displeased with the people being displeased.

Most people with half a brain realize the changes aren't anywhere near as drastic as the people with their panties in a twist are making it to be. Not too mention all the other factors (amount of time between entries, early screenshots from a game years away, among others) that make this whining even more idiotic.

Boy, aren't you a clever one. Totally didn't see that coming.

Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away.

I dislike some of the look of Diablo III as well. That doesn't mean I am going to hate the game. Just I am not a total fan of the art direction of a few areas.

The guys at Blizzard should sit down and have a beer with the guys from Bethesda.

Can a sequel in a 'old school' PC RPG series get a break? Good god

Then I shouldn't have to point out to you how stupid the point is from the beginning.

Oh, Internet.

I don't want to believe the arguments he made in the second page were actually contended by people, but I know better than to think it beneath them.

My Initial (Wrong) Opinion: The Witch Doctor looks like a variation of the Necromancer that focuses on infectious diseases and fire instead of death and the art of looking like J. Mascis. Being able to cast your offensive spells on pets so their attacks are buffed with those spells' abilities seems like it could be a lot of fun. I can imagine buffing one pet with a spell that slows enemies, another pet with some form of Weaken, and a third with a damage-dealing plague to mop up.

The Internet's (Correct) Opinion: WHERE DID THE NECROMANCER GO??? I'm not buying this game. Even if all of the unannounced classes are Necromancers, it's too late. Blizzard has abandoned its true fans.

From what I've seen on SA's own forums, "The Internet's Opinion" also includes thinly-veiled statements of, "I DON'T WANT TO PLAY AS A BLACK GUY."

:lol I guess no on noticed the Paladin (Diablo II) and Sorcerer (Diablo I) look sorta like a Black guy.

I'm going to have to sympathize more with the haters of the haters here. Going off of like 2 areas, they feel like the game is too colourful. Outdoor forest enviornments? Too green? Seriously? Some people are demanding changes with the threat of not purchasing, some are drawing mock ups of what the game SHOULD look like (think brown+grey) some are signing petitions. That's just ridiculous. Get over yourselves and let them make their game the way they want - if it looks bad, complain about it, that's fine. But demanding changes signing petitions? Let the makers make the game however the hell they want.

Diablo 3 looks amazing and not only will I buy it day 1 but I'll convince everyone I know and everyone I see in the store at the time to do so as well.

yeeeessss.

How is mockery displeasure?

I'm personally finding the mockery very entertaining.

I guess it just depends on how you look at it. I don't think too many are "demanding" anything, just suggesting. And a petition at this point is really their only chance of making any impression on Blizzard. I also really doubt anyone will pass up the game due to the style anyway, they just want Blizzard to know they aren't happy with the look.

Maybe that wasn't the right word... In any case, I've seen just as many people crying over the people complaining as I have people complaining, probably more.

Marketing won over the unwashed masses a long time ago. It's the same ridiculousness that dominates political discussion. Moderates or anyone actually wanting to debate something is immediately pounced upon or just drowned out by the Defense Forces.

all hail, community marketing

What about all the people like me who love the look and in essence you are trying to change a game that I am really looking forward to. That's not cool dude.

That's because the people bitching are just being selfish as hell.

I think D3 looks awesome, They went for a gfx engine that a majority of people can run and while it may look "kiddie" to some, gameplay matters more than gfx.

You could always make a counter-petition. :lol

Again, I guess it just depends on how you look at it. If wanting the game to look a certain way is being selfish, then isn't everyone guilty?
