If you guys end up wrapping a comp around FKF, then someone PM me and I'll organise some kind of PikPok/Sidhe prize pack for the winner.
As a prize for everyone, you could announce GripShift 2 for iPad.

No, I won't give up. :D

Holy shit, get Phoenix HD if you like bullet hell shmups. It's free, fun, insanely gorgeous (srsly, possibly best looking 2D game on the platform) and runs at a wonderful and totally consistent 60fps.

http://itunes.apple.com/be/app/phoenix-hd/id445791750

note: make sure to get the HD version, it's totally overhauled and universal
Oh wow. This game's pretty fun. 193,779 points is probably the highest I've ever scored in a Bullet Hell SHMUP.

Eh, you can't compare scores between different games like that - they all have different scoring mechanics. It's like saying you scored higher in a game of basketball than a game of football (soccer).

Oh man, Anomaly is amazing. I've never really gotten that into tower defence type games, but I like the opposite take on the genre this has used, it seems a lot more fast paced and fluid than other games in the genre too, there's very little pausing of the action. Not to mention it's stunning on the iPad 2.

It's funny, I was looking forward to FFT so much but now this seems like it'll be taking up a LOT more of my time than the former.

Flick Kick Football

Enjoying NyxQuest. Grab it while it's on sale, I'm really surprised at how good a platformer can feel without buttons. Finally, a floaty platformer that makes sense.

Definitely agreed. This an Anomaly are the best releases so far this week, and in a long while.

Question - I really really don't like football, will FKF still be a worthwhile purchase if I want to join in the challenge? What's it about, like penalty shoot outs or something?

Its about taking free kicks with defenders and the goal keeper attempting to block the shot. I love the game but I'm also a footy fan so hardly impartial (I do like their FK Rugby and Field Goal too though). There is a free version if memory serves; so you could try that.

Phoenix HD is really gorgeous but I get the feeling when playing that my ship is way too big. IMO in the best bullet hell games your ship should be tiny (or at least the hitbox should be), I feel like I'm getting hit a lot by bullets I should be able to avoid.

Still, free is a great price and I do love a good shmup.

I'm playing on iPhone but also really enjoying it. It's a great concept because it uses the whole knowledge base you've built up from playing various TD games and then spins it around to use it in an entirely different way. Anomaly has a terrible name and story (it makes Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars look like FFT) but so far in, the gameplay is great. Well worth $1.99.

I had this too until I realized the hitbox is the cockpit.

They've cut a few story elements and a bunch of cutscenes in the iOS release from what I can tell. But I think the story serves it's purpose well enough and it's high quality for what's there.

Yeah, it's not so much the story but how well executed and presented it is that really gives the game a great vibe.

Man... That Kotaku article could not have been timed worse. I find myself playing Groove Coaster, Glowfish, Anomaly, Phoenix HD, Emberwind (giving it another chance), Nyx Quest and an awesome updated Aqua Moto Racing 2 and Rage HD lately... While neglecting older favorites that I *still* haven't maxed out like DoDonPachi Resurrection, Infinity Blade, Alien Space Retro, Death Rally and Order & Chaos. I feel flooded with awesome high quality games and can't believe I carry this all around in my pocket.

This |OT| really makes my wallet cry. I just keep on buying and buying everything that you guys recommend.

Thanks

Viking Lords is gone from the App Store. Not sure what makes that case so special compared to the billions of other clones and direct rip-offs still on the App Store *cough*Angry Birds*cough*

Anyone that has played Eternal Legacy do you know where to get a Water Absorber, the merchants don't seem to have them.

Wow, I am trying the lite version of "The Quest" right now and really loving it! I don't know if I'm $7.99 Gold edition loving it, but very likely $4.99 regular edition loving it.

If these sorts of old-school RPGs are your bag, I highly recommend you try it out. For those who have played it, did you view it in a positive light?

I'm glad you only have one player character. For some reason in games like this having a whole party to look after really turns me off. Give me just one dude and it gets much more enjoyable. Now, something like the old Gold Box games I don't mind having a party, that is more of a strategy/tactics type game in combat.

Which do you guys think would be the better purchase: Emberwind, or Nyxquest?
NyxQuest by far. Emberwind looks and feel jerky and simply doesn't control well. NyxQuest is well suited to the platform, looks nicer, and runs much smoother. If you play on iPad 2 it also runs at a solid 60 fps.

I got bored with iOS gaming or a while but damn so many good games now.

Tried NYXquest and it was beautiful. Definitely going to get it. Will also look into Anomaly and Temple Run (an oldie but looks cool).

I've heard a lot of mixed things.

FFT is FFT. Implementation is sloppy, but it is the game we know and love. As with most SE releases, don't get it expecting them to improve it. So if you love FFT, you'll still love it.

glad flick kick is winning, probably gonna join the group when i dont forget it.

and thanks for the phoenix hd recommendation.
Well I think you're already on my GC friends list so you're halfway there already, just remember to play it when the competition starts :P

Hey Mario I'll contact you via PM, sounds cool :)

Thought The Quest was absolutely terrible. Ugly, ugly, ugly game which tries to be so old-school that it suffers badly from it. Just save yourself money and get Undercroft (free) instead, you won't regret it. It'll make everything you've played in the lite version of The Quest seem very cumbersome and the gold edition doesn't get any better.
