Great, great, great start! Gritty, dark and moved along quickly. By the end I was roped into all the story lines and can't wait for more.

A- is very accurate.

If anything I disliked "Bullet" for most of it until the very end and now I'm pissed. No spoilers until all you stragglers get caught up.

Commenting to find this thread later, haven't watched it yet, not sure if I will continue watching it even after I do.

I found the beginning rather slow, but at the end of the 2nd episode I think the plot will begin to pickup more pace now.

Joel Kinnaman is awesome

Very strong start. Like everyone else mentioned, it was really dark stuff (like much of season 2). I like all of the new characters that have been introduced. Cool names too. My favorite thing about this new season so far is the pacing. Everything is coming together pretty quickly. I'm pretty excited now for the rest of the season.

Anyone else agree that Holder looks badass in his detective outfit? :D

Holder is better than ever.

He's gotta be one of the best TV characters ever.

Holder is one slick ass dude, now even more so in the suit. Also it's refreshing to not see Linden looking like a hobo for once.

Fuck yeah Holder was awesome as usual. So happy this is back on. I thought it was a really solid premier, the kids started growing on me by the second half of the episode. Really wasn't expecting that rape scene though, even though they didn't show much. Just happy to have Holder and Linden back in my life.

Why is the guy in prison the only one with a tan? This show isn't doing the pacific northwest tourism industry any favors.

I'm reeling from all the major events that happened across television tonight, but I will get to organizing my thoughts on The Killing at some point.

Rough notes are:
  • Holder continues to amaze. I would give up the butt for this man.
  • Linden has become more well rounded. She doesn't seem to be quite as hollow as previous seasons suggested.
  • The kids aren't annoying. Well, they are, but in the way all kids are. I like the butch girl. She's cool.
  • The atmosphere on this show is fantastic.
  • Not sure on the purpose of the cow dying a slow, agonizing death yet. Need more time to digest its possible significance.
  • Absolutely stunning cinematography on the final shot. Stunning.
  • Seawerd is shaping up to be an interesting character. I don't think he killed his wife, but then why take the fall? Is he protecting someone? If he is, then who?
  • Big ups to Veena Sud or whoever is in charge of casting. I had a big smile on my face when Hugh Dillon showed up. I loved the Headstones.

Overall I'm really glad this show is back. Holder was cracking me up the entire two hours. I just cannot believe one man can hold all that swagger. As for the plot, it's promising so far. I'm really pulling for this show not to fuck up all the good will the season premiere inspires. I think this show can be a great one. It has all the pieces. Hopefully they've learned how to put them all together.

Oh and that rape scene was pretty terrible.

Holy fuck, I completely forgot that this was coming back. Like, It feels that it was like a month ago they announced it was coming back to a third season.

Guess I have 2 episodes to watch.

I loved Holder saying "biiitch" which I hope was a reference to Breaking Bad, and I also loved the Serenity reference with his tattoo and Jewel Staite.

I haven't been able to go back and rewatch the episode yet and I didn't catch this on the first run through. Did the kid that drew the pictures exclude the buildings where they find the Asian girl in the original drawings? Linden was able to piece together where the trees were pretty quick so I'm going to assume that was a new addition to the drawing now that he is older.

Miss Holder beside the suit is still the same roughed cop. The Last shot was amazing, but i have to ask, why on earth didn't Linden check the lake before, during the murder investigation? Seawerd didn't kill the wife i get it, but why would he take the fall for the murder?

Also i was intrigued by the Pastor wall, full of pictures and with at least two victims on it, if i was Linden and Holder i would check the dude.

Aye. The first drawing doesn't even have the beach or the mountain range. It's just trees. The picture she took from the kid's foster home is a complete image which is why she was able to see it as a place instead of some weird abstract art.

The numbers from the premier are up from the season 2 finale and even with the season 2 premier. Good news?

I think it's pretty good, though it will probably drop next week.

Good premiere, don't really care for the stuff with the kids. Who the hell is mayor of the city anyhow? :P

Isn't Richmond still the mayor? Sure he had the problem of being shot making him a paraplegic but I think he resolved himself to continue on and since he was cleared of Rosie's death there shouldn't be a problem with him continuing with that office.

I hope the ratings go up rather than down or at least hover around what it is right now. I think we can all agree how much potential this show has and what a shame it would be if it were canceled again.

His guy murdering a girl and trying to cover it up for some secret deal with an Indian casino is not enough to sink a career in Seattle?

Then again, I guess I shouldn't talk, since I have the coked up mayor why insists on denying it ever happened.

As a registered The Killing hate watcher, I thought the first two episodes were actually pretty good. The show is much more focused and engaging without the Larsen parents and political storyline dragging things down. Holder has achieved new levels of Holdertude, and this cannot be called a bad thing. Even the "kids" side of things was alright.

Still could afford to quicken the pace a bit, but I don't have many complaints otherwise.

I thought it was a pretty good premiere. It's nice to have Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman on my TV again: those two are just great.

The street kidz were all pretty well done and the plot seems to be progressing nicely. Only 11 more episodes until the killer is revealed! I bet it's the homeless shelter pastor. He seemed fishy. Hopefully he's not just smuggling the homeless girls over the border in order to save them from female circumcision or something. :p

And wtf was up with all of those dead cows?

So how goes the #hatewatch?

whatchu talking bout gurl, there ain't no hatewatches up in hurr

AVClub gave this an A-. Does that seem accurate?

An 'A-' compared to other episodes of The Killing? Yeah, I'd say that's accurate.

I love the atmosphere of this show.

It really is excellent, isn't it? If there's one thing this show does well, it's the dreary, drippy, foggy, dark atmosphere.

First two episodes free on iTunes and Amazon if anybody missed out.

AMC.com's also got the premiere up.

The show is much more focused and engaging without political storyline dragging things down.

Yeah. The problem with the political storyline from the first two seasons was that it was almost completely disconnected from the main storyline and it seemed way too obvious that one of the politicians was involved with the murder because otherwise why would that storyline even exist? It was a boring storyline that dragged everything else down with it.

With season 3 they have a new "B" storyline, with Peter Sarsgaard (btw I always thought his last name was Skarsgard): on death row, but it's immediately more interesting than the above because of Sarsgaard's magnetic performance, not to mention the fact it's actually connected to the main plot; it certainly doesn't feel like we're wasting time whenever they cut away from Linden and Holder.

His guy murdering a girl? Jamie didn't go through with it though (though I suppose he might be guilty of attempted murder).

Oh and that rape scene was pretty terrible.

I don't think he took the fall. I think he put on an actual defense at the trial and just gave up after that. It was easier to be a hard-man who killed his wife and didn't have a son, he could have screamed himself blue in the face about his innocence but like a chinese finger puzzle it would only have made it worse, noone would believe him. Also he's in a very powerless situation, everything he's done he's clawed back a little bit of power, even in taking on that fantasy he gains a sense of power because he doesn't have to be a victim of the system anymore, he doesn't have to be the man whose wife was killed (were they married?) he gets to be the man who did the killing instead, the man with all the power.

For the lake, the mother was killed in the home and not sexually assaulted so I don't think anyone would have even thought to look at this lake. Of course that raises the question of what the kid was doing there and why it left such an impression.

More practically it seems strange that someone would wrap bodies in red plastic and just let them sit there unless he wasn't worried about them being seen.

Honestly I dislike that aspect, I love what's going on in the prison but the fact that everything has to be connected in this very mechanical way to the murder investigation is just offputting to me. While the political side of the story in the first two seasons may have been lacklustre what I liked about the original show and those seasons was the effort to place this crime in the city and in the community and think about what that actually means. To see more than just a few minutes of grieving family and then back to the case, to see the reverberations or lack of reverberations. Now they've fallen back on one of the cop story's favorite crutches, the serial killer, and taken a piece of Linden's past and used it as just fodder to move the plot along. Not to mention I have no doubt they will deliver us very clearly a killer thus avoiding any of the ambiguity occurring in real criminal investigations and trials and further falling into the tropes and stereotypes of the cop genre.

Really good start to the season. Liked the new characters especially the guy in the prison (though Bullet was kind of annoying early on). Holder was amazing just like always. Linden is still a shitty mom. Anyway hoping the middle of this season is handled better than past ones. I guess the one-season case should help, but they still haven't earned my faith that they will handle the parts between the beginning and end better.

Hopefully those ratings are steady. I can't help but feel they should have rebooted it a little by giving it a subtitle though, so people know they can jump in without any real prior knowledge.

On Sunday, I watched the Killing's season opener instead of GoT, and I don't regret it. I've always loved the two lead characters, the show's setting, and its style. Now that season 2 is behind us, season 3 could be great with smarter writing.

really enjoyed the first episode, love holder so much

Anyone here live in washington? does it seriously ran and look gray all day? jesus christ its depressing

I watched it last night, quality as expected. I would really like the visit Washington, that area looks so beautiful

The show is actually filmed in Vancouver, BC though I think the aerial shots of the city/bay are of Seattle. And I believe that Seattle is very grey and rainy, though not as grey and rainy as the show makes it out to be.

Isn't she Jewel Staite from Firefly?

Really enjoyed the start of season 3. End of episode two was crazy.

also Jewel Staite from Da Vinci's Inquest.

You can tell it's shot in Vancouver by the casting if nothing else.
