The thing I like from Jim's review is that he transparent - moreso than any other reviewer which why I go to his reviews for honesty but not necessarily agreeable. While that hasn't changed in this review, I expected more from the guy who now has the tools for disposal in being aware of the game development at large.

Probably should've just let it die, Sony. Opinions may be positive now on launch day but wait about 2-3 weeks and this one won't be anywhere near talks for GAFGOTY

Why? It came out, a lot of people seem to really love it, others don't care about it. Sounds like every game ever.

Again, subjectivity and all, but I would disagree that something like what I mentioned in my last post, if is the case with TLG, being presented in a review is constructive video game critique. Being disappointed in a game for actual technical issues like stuttering/slowdown in framerate, glitches, etc and critiquing the narrative of a game in a way that lets you see it from a perspective that doesn't undermine potential achievments of the developers, is. lol, no I'm not trying to bait you into anything. I thought we were having a nice discussion.

If you argument is that a reviewer can't criticize a game for deliberate choices made that that reviewer feels hurts their overall enjoyment or experience, then no I can't agree with you. Reviews don't exist just to tell you how well a designer's ambition was realized, they also exist to comment on the quality of that ambition in their eyes. Otherwise reviews could just replaced with checklists.

Fair enough, bud lol. That's not quite what I'm saying though - I'm not saying I think he shouldn't take that approach, but it is of course debatable to what extend a reviewer should, and/or how skilled they are at doing so. Check the edit, I am a terrible/slow editor, but I eventually got my point across better and sound less like a basement dweller (maybe).

The only review I really trust about this one is Jim Sterling's, 6.5/10. For a game as hyped as this one, after all this time, that's a pretty poor outcome and I am looking forward to seeing the post honeymoon viewpoints

If you're ok with the idea of experimental gameplay mechanics, Team ICO's games are the cream of the crop. The fact you can have review outlets praising and damning the exact same feature should be confirmation of that

Game is great with mediocre performance and reviewed better than most expected. deal with it.

So basically the main problems for which some reviewers gave lower scores were camera and technical issues.

Most have praised art, story and emotional resonance that people had with Boy and Trico.

Yep, seems like Team Ico game, through and through. People that enjoyed Ico and Shadow will also enjoy this one, and those that haven't won't. And that's ok, since this game is not meant for general audience, the same as Bloodborne for example.
 
People getting angry at a game getting 80-85 range in overall score is most probably one of the 1st world problems I have ever seen.

Seems so silly to lose your hair over that.

I don't know, seems like quite a gamble at its current price.

Feels like something I would enjoy more from watching others play.

Stable 30fps are fine. FF15 runs great on my PS4. Everything under 30fps is unacceptable for me tho.
 
Just read the Jim Sterling review. Well, some of it lol. Being careful af right now to avoid spoilers, so only skimmed to see some of the qualms he had w/ gameplay, and I'd be lying if I said I'm not a bit more worried about how the game turned out. Being rodeo-throwed from Trico while pressing the grip button down could be reasonably frustrating, since TLG doesn't have the "grip meter" mechanics of SOTC last I checked. Doesn't sound intentional, at worst it could feel like a bad dream. The moments he had with the ivy patches does indeed sound confusing. And if your character routinely can't land jumps to other platforms because of slippery controls, and if the game is actually overly scripted, fair enough. Maybe TLG has seemingly poor gameplay mechanics that are in fact intentionally designed in a way to not take something away from the emotional impact of the story/characters/animations, or maybe the latter is emphasized to hide the former to some extent. Either way, whether it is a success or failure is something that might be debated for many years after release day unless patches/updates can noticeably improve any technical issues, and even then, it sounds like an if. Whatever the case, still glad TLG is released, even if it maybe isn't as polished as it could be.

Well my 82 prediction was almost spot on. So glad the game didn't bomb even after all this time. Given the development hell part of me was thinking this could turn out to be a complete turkey.

Also I'm hoping being a poor European works in my favour for once and a framerate patch is forthcoming before Friday.

I really really want to watch this, but if even Jones/Bloodworth recommend at the start not doing so if you want to learn the mechanics first hand, then I will take their advice and watch at a later date.

I'm glad that Bloodworth loved it though. His is an opinion I've respected for a long time.
 
Read this idiots user review on Metacritic, complains he has bought digital and the game is only 10 hours long, the game has not been available digitally for 10 hours yet. Makes my blood boil the people feel the need to do this crap!!!


'Let me prefice this review by saying that I am a huge fan of Shadow of the Collossus and ICO was a pretty good game. Sadly this is one of the most over hyped games of this decade. Plagued with clunky controls, bad AI, bugs, frame rate drops (Running worse on PS4 Pro) and reused puzzles. While Trico does feel like he is pretty realistic at times, sometimes he is just plain retarded and then you have to waste time calming him down which pads out a measly 10 hour game with no replay value. All of the combat is done by him so you spend most of the time either running away or trying to calm him down.
While it did have some emotional moments, it is definitely not worth full price. If you buy this physical, at least you can beat it in a day and return it for a pretty decent return since it is so close to launch. I unfortunately bought digital. I haven't been this disappointed since No Man's Sky, but I can at least give the developers some credit for not lying through their teeth. This is just another reason why YOU SHOULD NOT PRE-ORDER GAMES'
 
Funny how for some it went from "This game is gonna bomb" to "This game got 85 and that's not great" and "Well this one reviewer gave it a middling score so it should've been canned" (same reviewer who gave other technical messes great scores) and finally "Whatever, this game will be forgotten in 3 weeks". I feel there's some kind of will for this game to not exist just to spite the fans or the reputation of team Ico's games.

83 average is pretty great for a game coming this late in any case, with a bunch of 10s to boot.

How about you play the game yourself and judge it based on your experience with it and not care about one particular review?
 
Well technically we don't know if it had bombed sales wises lol ^^; not that it would matter since there's no way there would be another game.

But I really hope it doesn't bomb, people deserve to have their faith rewarded.
