The Last Guardian: Review Thread

Well technically we don't know if it had bombed sales wises lol ^^; not that it would matter since there's no way there would be another game.

But I really hope it doesn't bomb, people deserve to have their faith rewarded.

Define "another game." A sequel to The Last Guardian? Of course not. Another PlayStation exclusive directed by Fumito Ueda? Not outside the realm of possibility at all.

Probably should've just let it die, Sony. Opinions may be positive now on launch day but wait about 2-3 weeks and this one won't be anywhere near talks for GAFGOTY

No.
I'm glad Sony was committed to this game even after all the development trouble.

If Jim is your litmus test for whether a game is good or not that's fine, but wanting a game dead for millions more that wanted it to release is frankly pathetic and childish.

Easy Allies Score:
5/5

Ohh nice!
I generally tend to jive with Easy Allies thoughts on games since the GT days so this is great.
I'm only watching this after my own playthrough though, literally been on media blackout since E3 2015

For whatever reason he may or may not make another game set in the fantasy world he created though. Ueda in interviews has mentioned wanting to make racing games, mobile/handheld, FPS, games with zombies, etc.

Shit, I got teary eyes watching Blood's review, the footage of Trico behavior got me emotional and Im just 2.5 half hours in.

Yup. As an owner of 2 small dogs this game is gonna be equal parts joyous and equal parts heart-wrenching.

I cant wait 'til Friday to experience it myself.

Just went by my local game store and saw the owner playing the game.
The slowdown is noticeable (on a slim) but it's not constant.

The clunky controls however do need some getting used to.

Great review from Easy Allies. I haven't started TLG yet, but I'm concerned that if I keep tearing up at Trico in reviews, I'm not sure how I'll manage with a 10hr+ game. It's a bit absurd, it's not even like I am tearing up at anything sad, just at Trico trotting around and being a giant happy catbird. He's just been so lovingly animated, he's such a joy to watch.

It's obvious some people were never interested in the game.

If it's 90 on metacritics, these people will claim it's shitty because it's not 95.

If it's 100, they'll argue video games journalism is doomed.

That's why I always laugh whenever people make thread about "worst gaming years" because these people don't even play games. They play reviews and forums.

No way there would be another game? Ueda obviously carries some weight in the industry and he's on record saying games are the only medium he is interested in working with. It's likely we'll see something else from him.

Scathing. And not always true, but i love it.

Holy shit, that music, especially near the end!

Is that the game's OST?

Somebody in the Early Impressions thread said the OST was better than Ico or SotC's... Which would be insane i don't think it's likely. But still. Insane possibility.

Shame, I don't play sub 85 metacritic games.

... Sarcasm?

I can see it having better music than ICO. SoTC on the other hand? yeah that's almost impossible.

Great reviews in general. I'll definitely pick this up over the holidays. When I was younger maybe an 83 average would turn me off but I'm really learning not to go by scores. Some of the most boring games I've played this gen have also been the best reviewed. U4 and F4 to name a couple.

Sorry Blim, added your review in the thread now!

I expect a 4/5 from Alex from Giant Bomb, and a 8 or 9 from Edge.

My boys EZ allies with the clutch review. Man I jive well with their opinion so much I am so relieved they scored it well. Tis gonna be a masterpiece gents I can feel it.

The OST is superb. It's not the same as SOTC because that just wouldn't fit and it is much more present than ICO's. It's just so...I'll just say it fits the game perfectly and you will love it.

I think this is a completely success.
I had a lot of doubts about this game. Don't get me wrong, I was hyped as much as many of you, but the turbulent development worried me and some of the early impressions seemed to confirm my worries.

So in the early impression thread I said that everything above 80 MC would be great and now, seeing that 82-83 MC I couldn't be happier.

It's settle in the ICO/SoTC territory. That one where seems to be great for some people and doesn't be able to catch some others, but for the first ones, it's something special.

After all those years, again, this is a success.

These seem like incredible scores for a game that was stuck in development hell and created for a last-gen console. It was never going to live up to it's lofty expectations and here it is getting all these great scores.

Impressed. Was expecting this one to be a critical flop.

A lot of people are clambering for nostalgia of gone by generations, and for good reason. While we may have tons of slick gameplay these days, devs aren't taking the same kind of AA risks we used to see a lot more of. Even Let It Die, a game I think would have been a hit on the PS2, or even PS3, went F2P for I presume "fear" of "not selling". TLG essentially being the sum of its PS3 dev days, and inspirations from hit PS2 cult classics is precisely what many wanted, reviewers going ham on controls/camera be damned. While it would be nice to have these areas a bit more polished, they aren't want Team ICO fans were rooting for. Hence some of the dismissive hyperbole in this topic, but some jokes aside even Team ICO fans have to accept some reviewers were going to slate this, as they'd be the same people who'd slate ICO/SoTC 10 years ago.

I'm fucking estatic Nier is getting a sequel, let alone Ni No Kuni. There is times where the "everything was Uncharted/insert other big AAA blockbuster" meme that goes around on GAF is sobering.

Up next, Sony where the fuck is my Tokyo Jungle sequel?

I'm amazed by the fact that FFXV and TLG got released in the last two weeks and that, most of all, both games don't suck. What a time to be alive.

Great reviews but... will it sell?

Enough to break even/make some profit? Probably.

A lot? Hell no. Not everything has to be COD/UC though, see my mini-rant on the last page.

Heck it might even lose some money due to development hell, but Shu himself says for portfolio diversity you have to take the good profit generators with the acclaimed but bad profit generators. Usually what UC manages to sell makes up for whatever something like TLG fails to sell.

Gamers at large be damned for having shitty taste and just buying FIFA/COD and BF ;P

Man, I'm in. I'm so in and ready to buy this thing today. The two major complaints seem to be (1) about the camera, framerate, and "boy" controls, which at this point are just Team Ico staples, and (2) about the nature of Trico's AI. I can deal with the first, as neither of those things have affected me on either my initial or repeat play-throughs of their previous two games, and the second actually sounds like an interesting game mechanic. What's going to happen when I know the answer to a puzzle and Trico is going to do cat-like things while not following orders? Will I get pissed and think the AI is "broken"? Will I come to treat the creature as a living thing and have fun coaxing it everywhere? I don't know, and this sounds like an experiment worth taking.

And I missing any other major complaints from the reviews?
