The Last of Us - Multiplayer trailer

I think this can be great fun if people really try to play as a team.

Nope.

You're gonna have that guy who sits in the back aimed at one spot for the entire game.

You're gonna have that guy who runs straight out into the open and dies over and over and over again.

You're gonna have that guy who spins around in circles shooting out all of the ammo into the sky while blasting dubstep through his headset.

And then there's you, in awe of how awesome people are.

Looks really good, hopefully we get a GAF group going. I really like the pacing. It seems deliberate and methodical, which is a lot more fun than spastic and chaotic with little agency. This will reward tactics and execution, and that's awesome. Thankfully listen mode is a lot weaker in MP.

This is so true it hurts.

But then of course you'll have the teams that know how to best utilize the wallhacking. So, there's that too.

Worst case scenario they follow 343's lead on multiplayer challenges and hand out the most points for the cheesiest, campiest tactics.

Oh, I'm on a semi-media blackout from this game, but I gotta ask, what is Listen mode? Is that they thing where you can see through walls or what?

The Molotovs are OHK, even through cover... combine that with a wallhack and yeah...

This game needed: no radar, no bullshit boosters, friendly fire, an objective, less but deadly bullets.

And why have names over enemy heads? I guess I understand in real tight CQB you let the players see eachother's names. But in regular play, you don't need hovering names on anything but friendlies. And these yellow outlines on enemies that you can see through walls... wtf is that shit?

In some ways, it reminded me of MGS online. I don't know why, but it was a vibe I was getting.

Probably because of the speed and menu management

MGS Online was probably one of the best TPS MP games of the generation, if this game has even half the depth it will be stellar.

Looks interesting but I'm disappointed that is PvP.
I was hoping for something like Left4dead but with more depth

So did anyone actually play Tomb Raider MP? I played two matches of it, and never touched that shot again. This DOES NOT look like it lol.

Some developers should just realise their strengths and weaknesses.

Multiplayer is definitely not one of Naughty dogs strengths not sure why they feel pressured to include it.

Same thing with DICE SP is by far their biggest weakness yet they continue to put sp campaigns in their Battlefield games.

Uncharted MP has a pretty active community. Not sure what compels you to say this, just because it doesn't click with you.

might be the first game ill buy for $60 in alooong longgg time

Full price from me too without a single shred of hesitation. I actually paid full retail for Bioshock Infinite (PC) as well and did not regret it.

But thousands of people really enjoy MP in ND's games...Including me. Lol, a bunch of my cousins play it more than COD, even post videos for it online and everything.

I had a great time with Uncharted 2's multiplayer. If anything I don't think enough players gave it a chance.

As time went on me and my buddies ended up spending far more time with the co-op and siege modes though.

Looks really generic

That looks boring and ugly.

It doesn't look that great to me.

For people just watching the trailer and not reading into the game's multiplayer it's actually doing some really interesting things rather than just generic tdm.

Aside from the few bullets you begin each round with, locating and securing supplies are the only means to craft health kits to heal you, bombs to take out targets, or to upgrade a melee weapon to be more effective. Each chest also contains parts, which become a currency of sorts to purchase more bullets or better weapons. And with how scarce bullets are, and how quickly you can empty a clip, scavenging these supplies is necessary to surviving a match. Crafting takes downtime, so teamwork becomes vital so you have someone watching your back and protecting your neck while you get to work. This is strength in numbers

To grow your clan, you'll need to win multiplayer matches, while collecting supplies and completing objectives. Every match progresses the "story" one day forward, and you'll see your population rise and fall based on your success and failure.

You can sign into Facebook and have the game auto-populate your faction with real-life friends. As your clan grows, you'll see various status updates: Bob is planting crops, Diana is learning how to play music, etc. However, during crucial moments in the twelve week story, you'll have to make key decisions--perhaps choosing if either Charles or Edna get to live, for example. It's largely cosmetic, but it's nonetheless a cute way of adding a unique personality to TLOU's multiplayer.

Uncharted 2 MP remains my favorite online game ever. A classic I spent hundreds of hours on.

Uncharted 3 MP lacked the sheer simplicity that made U2 deathmatches so arcady perfect.

I hope this one won't fall into the perks trap (I'm skeptic about that based on the previews) and that it will keep some Uncharted humor. The trailer looks a bit too violent for my tastes.

Agreed. I don't play many multiplayer games, but the Uncharted MP really 'clicked' with me. It was a ton of fun, and I prefer them over most other MP games. I think ND can make some interesting/fun multiplayer, but it just doesn't look like they put in a lot of time on this specific multiplayer (at least compared to Uncharted 2 and 3). And yes, yes, I know it's more about the singleplayer (it is for me, too), but just saying... If you're gonna make a multiplayer mode, don't half-ass it (and yes, it's probably too soon for me to say that since I haven't played lol; but no co-op is a big deal for me).

Those things aren't interesting. It's window dressing. The only real meat on this bone is TDM.

I laughed so hard at this.
Anyway, I'll have to play it before I say anything.
Still can't believe there's no co-op though.

I've read everything and I still remain in the opinion that it doesn't look even remotely interesting to me. I'll give it a shot, but like I said in the other thread: I don't think this game's MP will make me move away from Uncharted 3's.

gaf clan reunites.

To everyone in here bitching about there not being and infected mode in multiplayer. It's coming, Dynamic AI for a horde mode takes longer to program for than player vs. player.

There's Single player and Multiplayer DLC heading our way after launch.

As big-name, big-budget, big-time games are wont to do, Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us" will have multi- and single player DLC, and a Season Pass to bundle it all up for a pre-purchase discount.

According to a post on the game's official website, "The Last of Us" will get three packs of downloadable content. Two of these packs "will feature multiplayer content in the form of additional multiplayer maps and other expansions," while the third is addition to the game's narrative campaign. "The journey and cast of characters in 'The Last of Us' lends itself to thorough narrative exploration and we’ve got more of the story to tell," the post reads, blithely.

Died in the wool fans can also purchase the game's Season Pass for $19.99 and save $10.00 on the cost of buying all three packs individually.

Season Pass purchasers will also get a handful of so-called "Day 1 bonuses," in-game perks to make Joel and Ellie's journey through zombie-infected America a tad easier:

• Increased Crafting Speed
• Increased Healing Speed
• 9mm Reload Speed Upgrade
• Rifle Clip Capacity Upgrade

The game isn't even out yet, most additional modes like Uncharted 3's horde/survival mode didn't come till month's later.

Wrong. They were there from the start in Uncharted 3. The only DLC co-op related thing that came afterwards was 1 co-op adventure map (The Fort), and the awful Shade Survival. Regular co-op survival and co-op adventure missions were there since day 1 in both UC2 and UC3. In Uncharted 2, the only thing that came afterwards as DLC was Siege.

Multiplayer looks very good although right at this moment I am far more interested in it's campaign. I think the story will be amazing. But as in Uncharted 2 and 3 I think I will spend a good chunk of my time on this multiplayer looks rock solid as I would have expected from ND

I am actually going to play this game. I hope Mr. Bleszinski is reading that. I will actually pay around 60€ for this game AND I am going to discuss the game on this board.
How crazy is that, right? ;)

I'd love to see the rate for people buying multiplayer mode/map DLC in games other than CoD, or even see how many people hang around in most multiplayers for long enough to experience the improved version. If Naughty Dog release a half-assed MP in the hope of improving it sufficiently through DLC, they're screwed.

I don't want to completely pre-judge the MP before playing it, but everything I've seen of it so far reeks of 'missed oppurtunity'

And before anyone brings up my post from the 'developers taking games in the wrong direction' thread, I was being facetious on the back of having my unreasonable hype crushed by the first gameplay video, that makes TLoU's MP look utterly generic. Naughty Dog will have to win me around to this, my expectations have been severely dampened

Nope. Uncharted 3 had the co-op arena/survival and co-op adventure modes out on launch day - they were even in the beta 6 months prior to the game launching. They DID add a really crappy co-op shade mode later, though (for a fee).

Any word on them bringing over the game recording and social features from UC2/3?

Can;t wait to watch the first legitimate match where a team comes back from 20-1 to 0-1 :D

I hope someday we can return to having multiplayer without perks and straight up advantages for those who pre-order or buy their copy from retailer X.

That's single player though.

lol? I'm not buying DLC to get Infected AI in this game's multiplayer. They're one of one of THE defining features of the game, ND should've been programming that in there since day 1. Not saying the standard PvP stuff they have in there won't be a fun distraction for a while, but from what we've seen, this registers about a 10.0 on the "Missed Opportunity" scale.

Words of wisdom and years of multiplayer bitterness. It's true, finding 'good people' to play with is almost impossible.
